View Full Version : Karen Paterson's "Patersonian" Thread

I think it's about time Karen got her very own thread separate from the Scottish players one, as a reward for her very good start to the year. She recently reached the final of $10K Grenoble and then beat Top 200 player Stephanie Gehrlein in Sunderland :) So support her here and become a Patersonian ;)

She next plays in Redbridge, where she has received a maindraw wildcard :D

Go Karen! :D

She now plays tough Russian starlet Ekaterina Makarova :scared: Good luck Karen! :)

Karen lost to Makarova 16 61 46  but a lot closer than it would have been last year ;)

But she's in the top 400 now and has barely anything to defend this year, so the only way is up!

At least it seems she got through a tough three setter, against a good player (Barrois has been winning anything recently) and most importantly wasn't injured.

Her grass form is hopefully pretty good, and if she gets a wildcard for Birmingham again, who knows what she might do! ;) She might get Castano or something :tape:

I just pray to god that she doesn't have another horror show in the wildcard playoff this year, it would be a travesty if she missed Wimbledon, in whatever form, for another year. Good luck Karen! :D

Karen Paterson plays Milagros Sequera in Birmingham quallies. Should be interesting. If she wins that she will probably play Lubiani. She has a decent shot at qualifying. :D

Good Luck Karen...get to the main draw, come on!!!

paul_masterton
Jun 4th, 2005, 06:56 PM
karen got humped 63 61  looking at teh stats she played a shocker

i dont think i twas very fair for her or milagros, they had to wait until 5.15 to get on court, and that was after play ahd been cancelled on all other courts a long time before

it was a good draw, not as good as getting castano ;) but oh well. im disappointed coz i'd built my hopes up, but sequera qualified for wimbledon last year and almost beat conchita martinez, and was a QF at surbiton.

never mind, another one for teh experience bank, and perhaps a good run at the play-offs will give her a crack at castano once and for all ;)

aaaargh if only she'd been 1 name out the hat sooner :p

Perhaps I should rename the thread [Karen "God I Hope I Get Castano at Wimbledon" Paterson's Thread] :p

Shame that injury seemed to hamper her in the match, these Birmingham appearances aren't in limitless supply

paul_masterton
Jun 5th, 2005, 06:59 PM
yes especially as she's 23 now :(

and in retrospect sequera was an awful draw, she qualified and reached round 2 here last year, reaching the doubles final. last eyar beat martinez in r1 of wimbledon (it was teh year before she qualified and lost to her in 3 sets)

so she's got a proven grass record, and went on to beat castano 63 63 (castano won 44 poitns, same as KP!!)

hoping for better in prequalies, and hopefully the back will be fine with a couple fo days rest :)

KAREN AND MELANIE TOOK THE SURBITON DOUBLES TITLE :bounce: :bounce:

Good luck in qualifying Karen :)

From the Scotsman:

"In the women's draw, top seed Karen Paterson - who won the Surbiton doubles title last week with Mel South - insisted she was just happy to be back to winning ways in the singles after she saw off Olivia Scarfi.

The world No.426 had fallen at the first hurdle in qualifying at Surbiton and Birmingham in the last ten days but she advanced 7-6, 6-2 to book a date with Julia Bone.

She said: "It's a relief to have a singles win again and the doubles win has given me some much-needed confidence.

"I've been playing well without getting the right results and if I can maintain that form I should have a good week here.""
