This is a very good showing for asagoe! I mean first at the US open being unseeded and all, then auckland final, she's definately upped her game! I mean sharapova should have ended this game already. If Maria wants to be number one she can't let player like shino get this close! GREAT JOB FOR SHINO! if she keeps this up she will definately pass Ai in the rankings.

maybe maria is just playing as well as she needs to to win. but whether she is or not she is still only 17 and in the top 5 and with time to develop and improve she's a chance to get to number 1 sometime in her career.

Well, Maria obviously played well enough to win. But she shouldn't have let it come down to a tie break. Im just impressed at shinobu's improvement. Theres no doubt that Maria's game is going to change. I don't want to say that she'll get to a number 1 too soon. Im waiting till the belgians come back and see what happens to the rankings. Yeah she's working her way up of taking revenge against the Russian players at the moment *g* it's either going to be Screechanova continuing her perfect run in Japan or Lindsay getting the historic 5th title :)

SECOND SET TIE-BREAK - Davenport 5-1: Kuznetsova to serve, unreturned 2-5; Davenport to serve, Kuznetsova misses a forehand approach 2-6; FOUR MATCH POINTS for DAVENPORT; the American to serve, unreturned; GAME SET MATCH DAVENPORT 6-1 7-6 (7-2) in just 68 MINUTES for a place in the final where she'll play Maria Sharapova! On current evidence it could be title number five for Davenport!

Really solid performance today. If she plays like this tomorrow she should win.
