She gained 168 points to move her ranking from #78 to #56. At the same time, she got passed for #1 Chinese by Shuai Peng who is now ranked #41. She also lost to Jie Zheng in Hobart, SF, allowing Jie to join her as Chinese with WTA title although hers is Tier III while Zheng has Tier V.

Other than that loss, she fell in a tough match to Petrova and was overwhelmed by the occasion of playing Masha under the lights at the AO.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Going forward, she has no points to defend until June. Therefore, she should be able to add to her point total and move on up the rankings. I think she should be able to get to that 1,000 point mark by the time of the French Open.

Upcoming Schedule:

Hyderabad (Tier IV)
Doha (Tier II)
Dubai (Tier II)

Na, and the rest of the Chinese team need to improve their serves. I was much more impressed with Peng Shuai on TV, however it's obvious Na Li did not play to the best of her ability. I think both women will move up in the rankings, and hopefully they will reach that elusive number 36 set by Li Fang! :worship:

With no points to defend she should easily get into the Top20.

I thought she would have gone further in the Australian Open draw - shame Maria Sharapova stood in her way.

Na Li = Totally over-hyped :o If she ever reaches the Top 20 then the womens game is in serious trouble. She's crap :tape:

I don't believe she is over-hyped and certainly not crap. Whilst I have only seen her once, and was disappointed (v Masha) you could tell she was seriously nervous - it wasn't the real Na Li that we saw. You could also see small glimmers of how good she could be. I'm not going to make predictions about her highest ranking etc but i think she should do well. Go Na!! :D

I totally agree with you. In a few points of that match vs Masha, you could see how good she really is. Didn't like her forehand too much, but that backhand is just fantastic.

i've waited ages to see her play, only saw that match with maria and i hope she was shackled by nerves.
if not cracking the top twenty this year could be hard, and if she does, maintaining her position would be harder still with that serve.

She also lost a set to Laura Granville.
