CHARLESTON, S.C. - Lindsay Davenport, the world's top ranked player, has committed to play in this year's Family Circle Cup, tournament organizers said Monday.
Davenport, who has won 45 singles titles including three grand slams, will be making her seventh appearance at the clay-court tournament, scheduled for April 9-17 at Daniel Island.
Davenport's best finish at the Family Circle was in 2003 when she reached the semifinals. She lost last year in the quarterfinals to 11th-seeded Patty Schynder 6-3, 6-2.
Davenport joins defending champion Venus Williams, who committed to play in the tournament earlier this month.
