A little show of support on a small corner of the World Wide Web for the Chinese Number 4 :bounce:

Hoping she can get back into the top 100 in 2005, stay there and progress further :D

Not a good showing so far in Australia, but here's hoping she manages to find consistency instead of bagelling someone in one set then losing it in 3 :o haha

Good luck Tian2 :lick: ;)

"And the Chinese government has made it clear that when their players succeed, they will be rewarded. When the women's doubles team won gold at Athens, Belleville said each received the equivalent of $300,000, two cars, a house and real estate."

Way to go Tian2!

Ting and Tiantian are share the "Roland Garros" cake. Chinese team clay season will stay in Si Chuan. Maybe they won't play any tournament until Franch open.:tape:

andrewC
Mar 29th, 2005, 07:43 PM
I thought the chinese contingent were playing at Estoril in Portugal, just prior to Roland Garros? I'm sure they are on the acceptance lists...

But anyway, doesn't Tian Tian look cute lol :D

andrewC
Apr 7th, 2005, 09:52 AM
Tian2, runner up in national games, now chinese number 6  rank 166... li ting 164, liu nan nan 165. i guess its because shes not played any of the big american tournaments this year :fiery:
win loads of matches on clay sun :yeah:

Ellery

Oh my! Tiantian is really Chinese number 6 now! Oh well, that shouldn't last very long...

andrewC
Apr 10th, 2005, 04:27 PM
I can see Na, Zheng and Shuai playing in Estoril, Strasbourg and i think Rome too on the acceptance lists, to warm up for the French Open, but on some of the qualifying lists Tian Tian isn't named in the same tournaments.... She should play in these to carry on her good form from the National Games! Does anyone know why she's not playing?
By the way, does anyone know who she beat in the semi's, Zheng or Na, to play Shuai in the finals of the national games? Any answers appreciated!

andrewC
Apr 12th, 2005, 10:49 AM
well Tian2's only got 15.5 points to defend until the end of may from last year, so hopefully she doesn't drop down the rankings too much further... now 167  :fiery: just hope she plays some tournaments before RG so she can get into qualifying...

She would have met Li Na or Zheng Jie in the semifinal(I don't remember which one), but her oppenent withdrew, so Tiantian advanced to the final.

I guess for Tian Tian, her nation comes first again, just like in the National Games qualification last month. She is playing in the fed cup, along with na, zheng and doubles partner ting, starting on the 18th April. Go Tian2! China has a good chance of making it to the world group II this year :D

andrewC
Apr 23rd, 2005, 12:25 AM
Go China, winners of Pool A in Asia/Oceania group I of Fed Cup!
Now, since Li Na has problems with her visa, now is the time for you to shine Tian Tian! You have a good record in Fed Cup, singles and doubles. Now get Stosur back for helping to put you in the low top 200!

Aww Sun defeats Los Anjos in Q1 6-0 6-0 but loses to Yan Zi in Q2   you trashed her in the middle east in february! Damn inconsistency again!
Maybe you were tired after travelling from Estoril, and also cos you played two matches in a day though :D
Well done to Yan though :yeah:

You can bet that SUN Tian-Tian does not want to be stuck in Strasbourg for days in the rain (like last year).

And will prefer to try her luck in Roland Garros singles qualifyings starting this Wednesday.

She never wins in two sets! :fiery:
She could not keep her focus and got drawn into Shiho's rythm. SUN Tian-Tian took a break after the 2nd sed to re-focus and impose her style.

For the side story, Shiho came to Roland Garros with her brother :)

May 28th, 2005, 06:22 PM
I don't want to jinx them but they pulled out a great fight in their 2nd round match.

They always had the lead in the 2nd and 3rd set but were broken back often (Ting losing her game).

The good point is that they kept extremely focused after losing the tie-break in the 1st set.

Surprisingly enough, Dinara appeared to me as the weak link in this match (though she did extremely well at the net), being particularly nervous.

According to the tournament schedule, Ting / Tian-Tian should have 2 days rest (Sat + Sun), but we will know for sure only later tonight (the Sunday schedule being released only after 20:30 this Sat from what I understand).

andrewC
May 28th, 2005, 07:29 PM
I noticed watching the Olympics last year it was Ting who was broken more often... Does Tian Tian still dictate the baseline rallies? Aww i hope they do really well here, especially since they won't be at Wimbledon, which I'd love Tian Tian to win the doubles in :D

Ellery

aww, Bartoli beat Sun 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 6-1. Sun must be out of match practice, but then again i guess this type of strong start and then tailing off in form as the match progresses is kind of a common theme with Tian Tian's results... She should work on her concentration, she'd do so much better I think. Never mind Tian Tian, qualifying and getting to 2nd round of Tier II is great for first tournament since May :D

Don't players like Sun, Zheng, Peng, Morigami or Asagoe deserve a space like Sugiyama and Widjaja currently have ?

Widjaja hasn't played for about a year, so her ranking is low, but Peng is near the top 30 already, Tian Tian was top 100 after Wimbledon 2004 but then hasn't carried forward her form through to this year as of yet, although her results as a qualifier at JP Morgan Chase is promising... Zheng won a title this year and had a final appearance at Rabat, and has been as high as top 50 but again, maybe more due to the interuptions the Chinese players have had this season, she hasn't been able to play and get a good win streak going. Morigami is in the best form of her life, career first WTA tournament final at Cincinatti, and is approaching top 50. Asagoe was actually above Sugiyama, in the top 30 earlier this season but a string of first round/second round defeats have watched her slide back down, despite encouraging performances since the US Open 2004. I'm glad all these players are getting recognition and some new fans, but there's still a long way to go before they all reach their full potential, maybe except Asagoe who is now quite old

Stosur's known to hav a pretty solid serve, one of the faster servers, and usually tie-breaks favor the player with the better serve but tian won the tie-break and she hold serve thru out d whole match. haha not too sure, although I do remember posting a while back in this thread (i think?) that she can serve regularly over 100 mph, which has got to be a start compared to the other asian players! She's one of the taller girls, about 5 ft 9. This is what makes her serve better. Compare her to Li Na who is 5ft 7 1/2, or Zheng Jie who is just 5ft 4 :baby: hehe

Keep progressing Sun, you rock :D

Oh, and after today's win aganst Stosur, she's jumped right back up to 128 in the world, from 182 before the US Open, and 204 before the JPMorgan Chase Open in LA. She's back to 4th best Chinese in the world, and about 30 places above Li Ting. However, Jie is 3rd best Chinese and she is way up at #49 in the world so far with her good performance in the USO 1st round... Sun has some work to do to push her up there! Go Tian2 :D

i was surprise whn i first read her profile how tall she is(for asian girls) and her doubles partner Ting li as well. height do giv u an advantage on serve, a few inches taller= better angle= better net clearance(tis comin from a smaller player ><me!)

i want find out her fastest serve so far in tis tourn, but unless she gets put on a showcourt, the info can't be found in her match stats!

Just finished downloading the Tian2 vs Serena match. I'm so proud of her! She played really well but obviously serena being a lame duck on the day with her ankle niggle helped her out a bit, but still! With the CTA talking about getting foreign coaches in to help the Chinese players out, hopefully we'll get to see Sun playing so well week in, week out unlike her somewhat inconsistent form she has shown in her career so far.
Mix this in with a bit more variety like coming to the net more often and she could do so well :D

Serena looks almost disinterested but Tian Tian is so solid.....such a nice looking and dangerous game....hopefully she'll play a lot more in 2006!

Is she gonna play Hobart? or start a week earlier at ASB or Gold Coast?

Wonder if any of the Chinese members can shed any light on any of the Chinese girls' schedules :wavey:

If Tian Tian played a full singles schedule in 2006, she should be ranked in the top 50 IMO. ;)

Well, hopefully, the Pattaya field won't be too strong, and Tiantian could definitely win a title. (or any of the other Chinese girls, for that matter). But if Tiantian can beat Jie, Na, or Shuai, she willd definitely be a contender for the title, because I don't think Pattaya will have many top-50 players. ;)

do you reckon as part of winter training TianTian may have worked on coming into the net as part of her singles play? we know she has goot net play in doubles at least... I think it owuld add another dimension to her matches :D

ITF Shenzhen 2000: Tiantian Sun [CHN] def. Ka-Po Tong [HKG] 6-0 0-6 6-0.

just found that from a thread in GM. weird scoreline indeed! Typical TianTian performance from a few years ago, hope she can now keep concentration in 2006 in every match and win more convincingly!

TianTian plays promising junior Shayna McDowell of Australia in first round qualies at Gold Coast... I guess it could be worse! Let's put winter training to good use and qualify for MD, go TianTian!

I think it is a great draw. :) Shayna is probably one of the weakest players in the quali draw, and Tiantian would face Adamczak or Czink, who is probably the weakest seed. Manu isn't in a very good form, so I would bet on Vesnina reaching the final quali round. That match could be quite tough. ;)

Anyway, go Tiantian! :hearts:

you were right, she breezed through her first qualy round, and now Vesnina and Czink are out, so it looks good :) I'm not sure which qualifier slot in the Main draw looks best for her though, they all look tough! But winnable on a good Sun day i guess :yeah:

The worst quali spot in the MD is definitely the Schiavone one :o Other than that, the best spot would probably be the Garbin one

Great results in qualies, really glad she beat Rodionova. She sounds like she's straight off the set of Mean Girls or something! rotten.

Too bad about not beating Nuria in MD, I would have thought it was winnable in the form TianTian was getting in to throughout the qualification matches! Never mind, on to Sydney next :D

I would say that Chinese girls tend to struggle against Nuria ... :o

Rabat Final 2004:
Nuria Llagostera Vives d. Jie Zheng 64 62

Guangzhou 2004

2R: Nuria Llagostera Vives d. Tian Tian Sun 63 42 ret.
QF: Nuria Llagostera Vives d. Ting Li 36 64 76(5)
SF: Nuria Llagostera Vives d. Jie Zheng 75 64

I didn't find it, I remember the matches perfectly. I remember being very pissed at Nuria beating three Chinese girls in a row at Guangzhou. I was praying that Zi wouldn't be her fourth victim :o

Well lets hope the chinese dominate the spaniards from this point on, especially Tian Tian getting revenge! Remember how she seemed to draw Stosur at every tournament she played in 2005, losing twice before finally beating her comprehensively? I reckon Sun can do that to Nuria :D :bigwave:

More than quite a good job, well done TT  It's a good sign she's beating people well into the top100's in the rankings, especially after Morigami had such a good second half of last season, with her first WTA final in Cincinatti etc. Again, go TianTian :D

from this match report, it doesnt sound like TianTian won the match per say, more like Akiko self-destructed :scared: nice to know her forehand was working well and she was consistently hitting good length on her groundies :bounce: that's the key to her game and i'm glad its working for her without too many UE's
