the crowd fell in love with her as the underdog. booing calls that went against her (that were correct) and a huge standing ovation at the end.

such a great performance. i'm a new fan

ITA. Lindsay Lee Waters became a star today. That grunt will echo in my ears for days to come.

She is a sweetheart!

:worship: Lindsay absolutely came out a winner today! She may not have beaten Maria, but she played THE best match of the tournament so far! :D

Jan 19th, 2005, 06:19 AM
I hadn't seen her play before...how the heck is she only ranked 87th????

If she playsl like that all the time then she should be top 50!

And :worship: to the crowd for the standing ovation they gave her. Much much louder than the quiet applause they gave Sharapova when she kissed to the 4 corners after winning!

I have always kinda liked her since USO 04 but now i like her 10 times as much :)

We don't see Lindsay often, but anyone who gets a chance to watch Lindsay Lee-Waters play becomes fan for life.

I had that experience at an US Open when Lindsay played Serena. There was a big crowd there to see Serena and they didn't know Lindsay. So, in the beginning they only cheered for Serena. Lindsay faught so hard that she pushed Serena to the limit all two sets. By the end, although she lost, the crowd, including Serena fans in my quarter, gave her a standing ovation. Even Serena appreciated her play afterward.

Great match anyways :yeah:

Jan 19th, 2005, 12:14 PM
:bigclap: VERY VERY impressed with Lee-Waters' game. She played amazingly well, but it seems that Sharapova's numbers were just slightly better. Just look at the stats, they were very close on everything! Lindsay should be able to win her first title easily if she plays like this :bigclap:

Never saw her play before last night. I have definitely been missing out!

I especially love it when she gets slap-happy and smacks the crap out of the ball. :hearts:

Although I'm a huge Russian supporter, I'm quickly getting tired of Sharapova.
There's just something about her I don't like.....maybe she'll grow on me.
Anyway...good effort from Lindsay!

I missed this match :(
I wanted to get Rod Laver tickets but they were sold out
I'm happy that Lindsay did so well, I didnt think she'd take a set, so I was so excited when I saw the score that she was leading 6-4, though i didnt expect it to last. You are right, if you saw her once you would become a fan :hearts:

I'm just watching the match now, this is the first time I have seen her play. I must say I thought she would be one of these average top 50-100 players with no real power etc., but I LOVE her game! She played great @ times today!

I kinda like her grunt a little bit, too :o :o

I hope I get to see her play more often!

Jan 19th, 2005, 04:12 PM
I'm also a new fan. it's great that she's a mom and out there doing her thing on the court

Jan 19th, 2005, 04:20 PM
That last set was great, some terrific rallies and fighting play from both players!

Jan 19th, 2005, 04:52 PM
This has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, but if I remember rightly, Lindsay Lee was a Nick Bolletieri student many years ago but left when she turned pro at 14. I was wondering why her groundstrokes looked so familiar, and probably why Maria found the going so tough. Lindsay's intensity and spirit was undoubtedly brilliant. I also hope she makes a surge up the rankings. Playing Tokyo could be an opportunity for her.

Jan 19th, 2005, 06:15 PM
I liked Lindsay when I saw her play against Serena and I am glad to see that she played well today. Hopefully this will be a good year for her.

Jan 19th, 2005, 06:37 PM
Ive bever seen her play but would love to - what age is she? shes just had a baby right?
