Too bad Zheng couldn't beat Safina... Wish her better luck in the next tournament :)

andrewC
Jan 17th, 2005, 12:12 PM
Looking at the statistics from Zheng's matches, she hit 11 more winners than Safina, and nearly matched her fastest serve... I haven't seen Zheng play for a while but i'm guessing she likes to attack now! She won 3 more points in the total points won category, shame she couldnt convert these at the important times :(

Yeah, but why would she put herself in such an awkward position? (The other Chinese girls did not have such problems). :smash: I am just pissed because Jie will lose her Hobart pts soon, and she won't get to play WTA events before AO. Hope she will be ready by then. :)

I wonder if it is possible to ask again for a Hobart wildcard?

well whatever happens I hope she doesn't fall down the rankings too much and she does decently at the AO... bad way to start the year though if you ask me, especially if she does not have much success at the Hong Kong Watson's Water Challenge exo. :scared:

I still think Jie is the prettiest among the Chinese girls

hmm, no one beats a smiling Tian Tian for me, but I must say Jie looks stunning in her black evening dress and the other chinese floral pattern silk blouse she wore at the press conferences for the Hong Kong exhibition! All glammed up with really nice hair just left down and brought to the side. Just saw photos of her with all the other girls in one of the General Messages threads, you guys should check it out :bigwave:

She is in HongKong now,it's good chance for her to play with seven top players,so she can't go to Sydney to play qualifying.

Such a fantastic result, will do a lot for their confidence heading into their next match! One win, and the GS final is theirs.

China's "Titansports" interviewed Jie today.I try to translate part of it.

02/06/2006

Q:Why you two looked not so happy as we expected after the last ball in AO's doubles final?
Zheng:Haha,we felt very exciting and happy, actually, but if we were overhappy,it's not polite to Samamtha and Lisa.

Q:Zi speaked in the ceremony, but you didn't.Zi's English is better than yours?
Zheng:She said she had made preperation to speak in ceremony when we were in the QF.So I let her go ahead.

Q:That means when you were in the QF,you're sure you can win this title?
Zheng:I thought we can fight into the final when we toughed through the QF.Because Pascual/Suarez is the last pair we want meet, and we beat them,so I think it gives us more confindence to go into the final.

Q:After AO,do you think you two are world first-class doubles players?
Zheng:I think if we consider ourselves as strong players on court,we could gain more confindence.Confincence will help us to chanllenge and compete with other strong players, especilly in some key matches.but technically speaking,we have a lot to improve to reach the first-class.

Q:Now you're grand slam's winner, whether you pick to play more higher Tier tournaments?
Zheng:Yeah,we scheduled more high tier tournaments than last year, but it's not because we got AO's title. The schecule is made in the beginning of this year.but that doesn't mean we don't play any low tier tournaments.

Q:Why didn't go to Hobart to defend your title?
Zheng:Oh,I played Hong Kong exhibition before, and I would be late to play Sydney's qualifing. So I asked Hobart to give me a WC,but sadly all WCs had been give out.So I missed one-week's tournament.

Q: Do you have any goals this year?Such as enter the YEC in doubles?
Zheng:Yepp,We wanna go to the YEC,it seems no Chinese player has ever entered the YEC.We want to try it.
