I'm kind of shocked nobody is considering this an upset:o

Ai:sad: 0-2...what a way to start the year out. She has not been playing well. Hopefully she can win a few rounds at the AO and get herself going.

why? what's with golovin you don't like? she's a very classy player, respectful of her opponents. no excessive c'mons, fist-pumping, celebration of opponent's mistakes...

Ai si too weak nowadays????? DO YOU HAVE A BRAIN!!!!????? It's the seond week of the season! It's as iff it's the end of her career...she had an ankle injury a few weeks ago and is trying to find her form which she is starting to....

Golovin is ranked 25, Ai 21. I pretty much think of this matchup as a toss up. Maybe very slim edge to Golovin just because she had a good week last week as opposed to Ai, but it's pretty even.

Viva Tati :rocker2:

Ai  Another sad match...

sad but encouraging, she's starting to roudn into form after her ankle sprain! :D

Besides, everytime she loses to young players like GOlovin, she turns around and beats them the second time (ie Dulko, Hantuchova, Sprem etc)

OMG Ai

First that disasterous Gold Coast performance, and now this. What is going on with her? I heard she had an injury last year, which was why she skipped the All Japan Open tournament last year, but if she really wasn't ready to play, then she should've skipped Australia altogether and use the time to rest-up and make sure her body's fully healed.

IMO, Ai's injury wasn't an excuse today. She had plenty of time to recover, unlike Anastacia who only aggravated her hand recently.

 Tati :hearts:

She played great in the first set ;) In the second Tati  broke a raquet, when down 2-5 and she just played a horrible inconsistent second set

Luckily in the third she was consistent, and really dominated Ai :p She was very excited and happy after the win :D

She later withdrew from the doubles  :tape:

Bad news: Tati pulled out of the doubles cos of abdominal strain (I think)!!!!
Hope she is okay for the singles or at least for Melbourne!!! I don't wanna see any more damn injuries...GRRRR....it is only the second week of 2005! What the hell?????

 abdominal strain, hopefully its not a troublesome injury..

Oh Sugi. http://www.imagelink.org/id30784.gif

pcrtennis i think you're delusional, even if you don't want to accept Ai's performance shes 30, her career is ending.

Well done Tati but that abdominal injury sounds bad - she should really withdraw from Sydney to give herself a chance to recover for the Aussi Open. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't like Tati either - she's like a mini-Maam(Mary Pierce)

Well done (even though I was supporting Ai) It really was a fantastic match. Got very tense in the last set as they both kept losing serve. I was on the court next to her, and we kept hearing all this cheering, so eventually, a fair amount of people from our court (myself included) ended up standing up on our seats and watching Ai and Tati.
