That was a typical non-rhythm-day for Venus :o . At least she beat two TOP 10 players. :)
Congrats Elena.

AWESOME ELENA... i was rooting here with you on a shitty scoreboard and a shitty webcam the whole time... great job

venus did not play well at all today, but i kind of expected that to happen, its her first real big match in a while in a final and she must have been tired from kuznetsova

elena... you could not have started out the season in a better way and you really made my night

But they DO count for the confidence ;)

Good job for Lena, I saw her playing against Justine on the Bel. TV and she was impressive. I hope both Elena and Venus have a good year.

Well Well Lena!! Well done ,sorry Venus but you did your best but i am afriad youve been DEMENTINATED!!..
I think this week as been good for both Venus and Elena ,Who ever said these matches did not count is talking crap ,yes they dontcount for rankings etc but they do for confidence and they are a good test ,I feel Venus had a good week here so Vee fans u have a lot to be happy about, we had glimpses of the real Vee back again the won who won many GS,s so its seems to me that Vee could be headed for a good year!!
As For Lena, wel lshe has really come out firing with a much improved serve and shes gonna be a real threat again this year it seems her returning is simply the best there is and shes the fittest and strongest out there ! So back to the Bridge of the SS Dementieva I go , got get over to Sydney PDQ!! Thank you Vee for a good match and i am sure you will be back!! Well done BOth GIrls!!

Congrats, Elena!! :D :yeah:
Beating Maria & Venus here!! Even though its an exhibition tournament, still a huge confidence boost for her to carry into the AO!!

Good performance by Venus as well!!! I can see that she treats this exhibition quite seriously to see where she is at. She gives a good fight in both matches against Vera & Svetlana!!! Maybe today is just not her day, but that's her style of play, just keep swinging; If its in, its a winner; If not, an unforce error!!!

I hope both of them will do well in the AO, to add more sparkles into the first Grand Slam of the season!!!!

it's not NBA but I love this game!

p.s. you need to watch faces of Sveta & Venus yesterday once again before to say "an exhibition tournament"
The true is Venus has nothing to add to her game. Sveta has not Venus.

Great win for my lieutenant general: lena's biggest obstacle isn't any one single player, it's consistency. She can beat anyone, then turn around and lose to anyone. I love seeing her focused and her keeping her 'eye' on the prize- if she keeps her focus this season WATCH OUT!!!

I was hoping she would win, but if her leg was sore after playing all those sets (including doubles), she played it smsrt by not putting to much effort into this final, especially now that she will be seeded eight in the AO. I'd rather see her win that.

Congrats Elena! :D Anyone see the match?

Venus made errors, but how was Elena's serve? Attackable?

Glad Venus recuperated to win the doubles :)

I'm so happy for Elena, she has just been winning all her matches and as a fan, that is simply enough :) Now take the AO.

Venus wasn't going full speed today. She is cleary a little tired, and Elena only had to play one singles match. The tourney didn't think that that would be unfair? Anyway, Venus didn't want to kill her leg today, so I'm glad that she didn't push it. Might as well save it for the Aus Open and kick some but down there. No reason to kill yourself if you're not 100% in an exhibition final.

wtg elena! maybe this year she's the full package... the real deal. no longer will she barely squeaze through draws and be a cinderella finalist, but maybe she'll kick some ass and get those titles!

Good Going Venus! Better Luck next time....rest that thigh.

We knew after two long matches two days in a row it was going to be hit or miss if Venus was going to come out tired or not. Elena beat her....Venus didn't have it today...No sweat.

but watch out I have a feeling 2005 is going to be great for Venus. :yeah: :yippee:

Jan 9th, 2005, 07:14 AM
not really suprising.

Her movement seems to be hampered this tournament so far.

and after singles tennis matches going for a combined 3.5 hrs in 2 days we knew eventually something had to give.

Now she has 1 week or so to rest before making a all out assault at Melbourne park
