Wicked which I've seen on Broadway is probably the best spectacle you are going to see currently and for a long time. The money it put to produce that show (I think 12 million) is astounding and it really shows. Everything is big and great, but not over the top. The music is great (even if the lyrics are a bit... shaky), it the best show I've ever seen.

I'm sort of over all of the old time musicals, as they are the ones a lot of high schools do.. and I've seen them all 723972394734 times. I guess I'm a bit effected being a theater major and being obsessed with it and all.

Avenue Q's originality is really great too, but I'd still go with Wicked, and I know that's definitley going to be a legend in it's own right.

Rent, and the rock opera style, is also great..
