#1 Davenport - right knee - out of Hopman Cup - playing Sydney and Melbourne

#2 Mauresmo - abductor - out of Fed Cup, Hong Kong - going straight to Melbourne

#4 Sharapova - pulled out of Hong Kong with illness (it was apparent that she could not advanct to final :tape: ) - should be OK for Melbourne

#7 S. Williams - stomach - out of Hong Kong singles - played doubles - declared self healthy, will play Melbourne

#8 Henin - illness - out of many tournaments at the end of 2004 - KNEE   - pulled out of Sydney - out of Melbourne

#10 Capriati - shoulder - out of Hurricane Slam - out of Sydney, doubtful for Melbourne

#12 Petrova - leg strain - out of Gold Coast quarterfinal - playing Sydney

#15 Bovina - foot - out of Gold Coast and Sydney

#16 Suarez - leg - out of Melbourne

#22 Clijsters - wrist - out of Australian season

#29 Pierce - shoulder - out of Auckland - doubtful for Melbourne

#50 Pratt - right knee tear - out of Gold Coast - playing Canberra - hopeful for Melbourne

#52 Rubin - out of Sydney qualifying (unless she received WC???) - doubtful for Melbourne - I am not a fan of Pratt but she dosen't have many years left and it would suck for her to miss her home Grand Slam

#75 Vaidisova - illness - out of Hong Kong singles - returned for doubles match so should be OK for Hobart and Melbourne

Lindsay is playing Sydney and it seems that pulling out of Hopman was precautionary... she's arrived ready to play.

Rita Grande has withdrawn from all forthcoming tournaments, as she is injured with severe tennis elbow. The injury has been affecting her since about October 2003, she may be forced to retire because of it. So fingers crossed that she'll make a full recovery and we'll see her friendly smile at tournaments again in the future.

I think she said she is confident she will play Sydney and sure she will play the AO. It is subtle, but leaves open the possibility of not playing Syndey.

I think that Nadia should be upgraded from possible to probable for Sydney.

Here's what she said -
"I think it should take a couple of days of proper treatment to repair and Iím planning to play Sydney. Hopefully I can get a later start. Iím looking forward to getting a few more matches there so Iíll be in top shape for the Australian Open."

If she had said "I hope to play Sydney", I'd be worried.

The highest player to withdraw now is Paola Suarez

At this rate, Hingis should just return at Melbourne. She has a pretty good chance of winning as all the power players are either in bad form or injured

Paola is not one of my faves and she behaved bad when I saw her so I don't care much about her, she would only have won doubles anyways and in singles, she is no major loss for the tournament.

I don't think Pierce has withdrawn yet, since Stephanie Cohen Aloro made the MD after Suarez withdrew.

Its not as bad as 2004 where a whole host of starts were missing.

SO this Australian Open should be a great one.
