hard to believe likhovtseva won this tournament 8 years ago!!
i remember waking up to hear that she had beaten sugiyama in a thrilling 3 set final- seems like a lifetime ago!!
tennis was very different back then

Even harder to believe, Silvija Talaja was the 2000 champion - beat Kournikova, Sanchez-Vicario and Martinez in the last three rounds, cracked the top 20 just before RG that year... and then her career abruptly died :o

Patty :D she'll better get far, so she doesn't lose to many places if she loses early at the AO

yup.. strange isn't it Lena winning in 1996 against her doubles partner at the time  it was the start of a very good year for her :D
then she beat defending champion Mary at the AO, on her way to the 4th round, also beat ASV on clay in Berlin but a few days later she lost to ASV 6-0 6-0 at the French! :o and she also reached the 4th round at Wimbledon...
she's still capable of giving the big names a hard time, but too inconsistent :(
