Well the top ten doesnt surprise me, considering who these singles are targetted at, little kids who save up their pocket money

I hope the album chart is better!

I hate the Eamon/Frankee songs (okay, not 'hate', dislike very intensely indeed!! ;) ) but I can see why Frankee came out with her 'reply' song... Not that I have really heard the song (I start 'zapping'!! The remote control just motors into action.. *sigh* ;) ) but I can see if she wanted to put the 'other' side of the story across...

Anyway, maybe I don't really know enough about this to comment... :o *shutting up* ;)

Nice that Victoria did well, Seles_Beckham. :)

While the Band Aid single was for a noble cause (and I applaud Bob Geldof for his attempt), I find the concept wreaking of pretentiousness and for the purpose of good celebrity popstar PR moreso than actually caring about the starving, dying and underprivileged. I mean, when it was announced that there was going to be a second Band Aid single, more people discussed and pondered who was going to be contributing to the vocals more than the actual cause it was representing. The single itself sounds like shite, as most charity singles are.

:fiery: Shows what a diar situation british music is in :banghead:
I think British music is having a really good period actually. You can't judge the British music scene on the singles charts these days - singles sales are falling and are lower than ever and the singles chart is not really a measure of British music anymore.

However the album charts are great and people are buying more albums than ever. Look at the great variety of UK acts who had quality, big selling (and some not quite so big selling) albums this year - Keane, The Streets, Franz Ferdinand, Joss Stone, Will Young, Robbie Williams, Girls Aloud, Estelle, Beverley Knight, Dido, Natasha Bedingfield, Morrissey, Embrace, The Libertines, Dizzee Rascal, Razorlight, Katie Melua, Amy Winehouse, McFly, Snow Patrol. There's something for every taste there and that's just some of the better known British albums. The other big selling albums in the UK this year by international acts like Scissor Sisters, Usher, Britney Spears, Eminem, Anastacia, Norah Jones, Maroon 5, Kylie, Destiny's Child, The Killers and U2 also show that people are buying lots of different types of music. I think the American charts are very much rap/hip-hop dominated these days whereas here all sorts of music sells big and it's exciting and interesting.

The single is nowhere near as good as the original, in fact it's a bit of a mess, but it is the biggest selling song of the year. Even if it was more about publicity than the cause, at the end of the day it still literally raised millions of pounds and saved lives and I don't think we can get too cynical about that.

Haddaway's "What Is Love" was the Highest Selling Song in the UK in 1993. It beat Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love," and Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You." So yikes to that for beating two of the biggest international hits of 1993. ;)

I would agree that music in Britain is such a wide range of different styles.

The US charts have the same kinda music all the time and that would bore me.

Their is room for all music and Britain proves that

The way to keep the singles alive is by reducing them...........3.99 is ridiculous

I used to listen to Radio 1's top 40 every Sunday until about 3 years ago, but then i just stopped  I now check Radio 1 website for the charts, the UK Charts thread in chat threads and >>> http://allcharts.org/music/czechia/singles.htm <<< for various charts around the world, singles and albums.

Usually on first release they are cheaper........i bought very few singles in 04' - Delta single and all Britney's - admittedly each one about 10 times but that's not the point.
