Lottery Winner Used Bottle for Numbers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A native of Bosnia who has lived in Kentucky for ten years cashed in five winning Kentucky Lottery tickets that totaled $1 million in winnings, lottery officials said Thursday.

Kemal Barakovic, an e...mployee at an air filter manufacturing company in Louisville, won the largest payout ever in the Kentucky Cash Ball game.

"My dad doesn't usually get very wound up, and he was excited and laughing when I told him the news," said Barakovic's son, Sanel, who spoke for his father Thursday at Kentucky Lottery Headquarters in Louisville. Kemal Barakovic doesn't speak English.

Barakovic used an odd method to choose the winning numbers. He took the numbers 11, 14, 21 and 24 from a bottle of vitamins at his home. To get the winning Cash Ball number, 22, he added a series of numbers on the bottle's UPC b...ar code.

Barakovic bought five of the Cash Ball tickets using the same numbers, said Sanel Barakovic.

He bought the tickets at a Thornton's station on Preston Highway, where his son w...orks. Sanel Barakovic said others tried to discourage his father from buying multiple tickets with the same numbers, but he said his dad had a method.

"Dad always said, why go for $200,000 when you can shoot for a million?"
