1. S. Williams - yes (unless injured)
2. A. Mauresmo - yes
3. M. Sharapova - yes
4. L. Davenport - yes (unless she retires - hope she doesn't)
5. A. Myskina - yes
6. K. Clijsters - yes
7. J. Capriati - maybe
8. J. Henin-Hardenne - yes (if back to full fitness)
9. S. Kuznetsova - maybe
10. A. Molik - maybe

However, I'm not sure who else will dominate really. I didn't really agree with your choices of who would win the Slams. Not sure why. Mainly cos I saw Mauresmo as French Open champion. That's probably why I didn't agree ;) LOL!

1.Serena- I agree. If she's healthy, she can return to #1.
2.Mauresmo-I hope, for her own sanity's sake, that she can finally win a major in '05.
3.Sharapova-She'll be in the top 10 for years to come.
4.Davenport-Probably will be a successful farewell tour
5.Myskina-Top 10? Yes! but I don't think she'll be top 5 after this season is over. I doubt she will every win another major and think she'll hover around the 8-10 range after the FO.
6.Kim C.-No, I think it will take her about 1 season to get back on track. Kind of compare her 05 to Venus' 04 but Kim will have much further to climb if she misses the AO.
7.Capriati- No. I don't think she will stay in the top 10 much longer.
8.JHH- Yes. I expect her to be back and challenging for the big titles.
9.Kuznetsova- No. I think she was a 1 slam wonder, but who knows maybe I'm wrong.
10.Molik-Maybe, she got close this year but it will be interesting to see if she can contend with the likes of the WS, JHH, & Sharapova on a weekly basis.

I would put Venus at about # 5. & Dementieva belongs in the top 10 for sure IMO.

I would put
1) Amelie Mauresmo- AO-RG Champ 05 ( cause if she win AO, then boom she will dominate because the nerves won't be a factor anymore)
2)Justine Henin- USOpen 05
3)Serena Williams-Wimby 05
4)Davenport-or Myskina
5)Sharapova
6)others....
unlike others, i doubt that Henin Hardenne will be hanging at the bottom... I really believe she will come back on top. As for Kim, she will need more time, but for sure she'll be back to top 10.
I don't think Sharapova is going to win any slams in 2005, but she will have good showings. I don't think the other Russians will do extremely great, but they will hang on to top 10.
I expect ( hoping no injuries) that Amelie, Justine and Serena will fight it out top 3 spots.
i also agree. I don't see Amelie choking anymore at Roland Garros. She has just nothing else to lose now, so she is gonna go all out. At her normal level (meaning no breakdowns), she reigns on clay.

I really can't number it, because we just don't know. However, I feel that a few things will happen. Lindsay will be top 3, and probably have a very hot cold year. I think she'll start off the year very well, have her usual clay meltdown, do well at Wimbledon and the summer hardcourts. I think she could win a slam if healthy. Amelie I believe will rely totally on the Aus season. If she wins it, she will have an amazing year. If she doesn't, I don't see her defending those massive clay points she has, and she'll be ranked around 5 year end. Myskina will be top 3 at the end of next year. Sharapova will be mediocre for the start of the year, but I don't see her defending her RG points or Wimbledon, and her ranking will suffer. She can pick up the points on the hardcourts, but I don't see her making a huge impact. Also, once AER expired, I have a feeling she will overplay, which could in turn lead to injury. She'll be outside of the top 5 year end. I don't think Kuznetsova will do well. She is very streaky to begin with, and I think players just know what to do against her. Outside of top 5, mabye even top 10. Dementieva will be lower than where she is now, but still top ten. She won't make a GS final. Serena is a tough call. If she plays really well, I think she'll be top 5, with one slam final. But if her current pattern continues, she'll be around 6 or 7. Justine I don't think will do very well. This playing only 12 tournaments a year concerns me. And it seems like after a certain number of matches she drops dead. I think she'll be between 7 and 10. Venus will rise a bit, but only a few spots. She hasn't defeated a top 10 player since July 2003. That's a problem. She has to work on the forehand and serve. She'll gain at the slams. But apart from that she has those clay points which I don't think she'll defend alot of. Jennifer will be out of the top 10. I just don't see her on that top of the top level anymore. Vera will be between 8 and 15 for all of her career IMO. Petrova's ranking will start to die after Miami and Amelia Island. Patty's ranking dies right after Aus. Bovina should really be top ten by Roland Garros. She has very little to defend right up until the summer hardcourts. But consistincy and injuries have always been a problem for Lena. Healthy, she will be top 10. Alicia has a great shot at top 10, and if she gets more consistent, she'll be there. Kim will have a really rough year. That injury really just seems like it won't go away. I don't see her top 15 next year. With her missing Aus and probably Paris, she won't be higher than 80 at Antwerp. It's hard to come back from that in one season.

Here's my top 10 for 2005:

4. Henin-Hardenne
5. Davenport
6. Myskina
7. Zvonareva
8. V.Williams

10. Molik

-Dementieva would not be able to go one step further and will still be top 15 of course , but 2005 won't be as good as 2004
-Same for Kuznetsova I can imagine them at 11/12

-Capriati will keep her way down the ranking, will be outside top 10 for sure
-Clijsters and Golovin wd complete the top 15

I'm afraid Kim won't make it to the Australian Open. She has a doctor's appointment in two weeks and if the doctor says her wrist is healing well, she can start training for real than. I hope that's not too late in order to get to the AO!

Well someone wrote Dokic, only way she can get to top 10 is winning a GS and a couple of Tier I's

Dec 7th, 2004, 06:00 PM
1. S. Williams - lower - Top 10 but unless everyone else shares everything she would need 1-2 GS, fitness and to play more to get to number 1.

2. A. Mauresmo - lower - top 10 but no sign at all she can pull out a big win and her chances worsen the better 4 Russian's , serena, Justine and kim play.

3. Sharapova (top 10 but she would have to prove she is abetter player than the 3 top 10 Russians and she won't keep on having luck with injured players

4. L. Davenport - higher - Top 10 and underestimate her at your peril but hasn't won a GS for a long time for well established reasons?

5. A. Myskina - higher - lots of room to get points at the AO and wimbledon. No Olympic or post FO fall out in 2005. Russian challenge manageable though Sharapova is a test.

6. K. Clijsters ( A long way to go if she comes back but there is no one she can't beat at their present level.)

7. J. Capriati - lower - hanging on with GS performances but if Justine and Kim come back and the Russian 4 improve and the top 20 get better Jen wouldn't get those points either. A place to be filled?

8. J. Henin-Hardenne Will do better than this by far - if the virus goes.

9. S. Kuznetsova Far higher - Seems to have stop and go phases. Current slowdown probably won't last. Has big gap in her ranking where Wimbledon might be in 2005 - far, far more likely to go up than down.

10. A. Molic (sic) had good periods in 2004 but you could see 5 other people doing better.

Bizarrely you left out Dementieva who can't serve any worse and still managed to beat many of your top 10. No reason to think she will do worse. She still owns Russians not called Myskina and Momo.No reason why she won't be very solid top 10 in 2005. Thats without allowing for her learning to serve her best serve all the time.

Serena.....if healthy will ALWAYS be top 10 and if she can start hitting out more often, can make a run for no.1.
Momo
Lindsay
Sveta
Myskina
Maria
Venus ( although she really needs to start beating top players again)
Jennifer ( she isn´t winning titles, but she always plays well at the majors)
Elena D

And the WC´s: Kim and Justine....if they can bounce back strongly then they can push Jennifer and Maria out of the top 10.
