This from sports.fr:

La France renonce à la Hopman Cup

Le 11/12/2004 - 13:18

Tatiana Golovin et Richard Gasquet ont préféré jouer leur carte personnelle en disputant respectivement le tournoi de Gold Coast et le challenger de Nouméa, plutôt que de s'aligner ensemble à Perth pour représenter la France à la Hopman Cup. Les Français craignaient sans doute d'être privés de compétition en cas d'échec en barrage contre les Pays-Bas...
France gives up Hopman Cup

Tatiana Golovin and Richard Gasquet preferred to play their personal chart by respectively disputing the tournament of Gold Coast and the challenger of Nouméa, rather than to align itself together in Perth to represent France in Hopman Cup. The French undoubtedly feared to be deprived of competition in the event of failure in stopping against the Netherlands...

thanks linnie for this article :)

well, its their choice they have their own reasons, perhaps we will see them playing double at the AO?

I hope it ;)

Dec 11th, 2004, 03:14 PM
so this mean tati will play Gold Coast?

Dec 12th, 2004, 02:06 PM
Very disappointing. Maybe they would feel more comfortable playing if they had different partners at differing stages of their careers. For example, if Amelie Mauresmo had teamed with Richard Gasquet, or Tatiana Golovin had teamed with Sebastien Grosjean. Either combo would undoubtedly make it into the main draw and guarantee them three singles and three doubles matches.

They should have announced this before. They knew they would be playing in qualifying long ago

Dec 13th, 2004, 06:27 PM
Eurosport Teletext says they did that because Golovin assigned to other tourney during that week.
