1st match of 2005 away to Italy.
wondering what small resort they gonna play us on.
u can safely say it wont be one of the big metro cities.

If i was capt i'd definately pick Lena Bovina to give another hiding to the Banshee  :smash:
but does our capt have a brain ?????

win that.......... and looks like we got US at home in Moscow
which will definately be on clay.

I'd take the US to Siberia if i was capt

Of course our captain has a brain even though he isn't perfect(leaving Elena Dementieva off the Fed Cup team this year was very puzzling) Mr. Tarpischev has handled controversies and hurt feeling and keep the Russian Fed Cup and Davis Cup ships afloat all these years. And he is one of only 3 Fed Cup and Davis Cup captains to to have won both the Fed Cup and Davis Cup as captain. :D That and being at the helm of Russian tennis for the past 30 years could get Shamil Tarpischev inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame someday. :) Da.

With the players he has gotten, they should have won it several times over...

He is lucky that Russia has won 3-2 over Amelie-less France with his idiotic choice of players.
If Russia has lost this final in front of the home crowd and Boris Yeltsin, his head would have been chopped. I think that is why he mentioned post-match that this was his more stressful final than Davis Cup 2002.

We won the cup(s) in spite of him being capt
even a puppet could have done his job.

Boris Yeltsin got him into this position.
i doubt anyone brave enough to remove him after his "wonderful work"
cos i cant see him leaving on his own accord.

I'm guessing this will be on clay? Then it will probably be the same team as 2004.

Now would be a great time for Tarpischev to step down because Russia just won the Fed Cup. But I don't think he will step down because he wants to win another Davis Cup title and with Safin and Youzhny as his top 2 players Russia has a chance to win another Davis Cup title in the near future if they get a good draw.

I think Anastasia wants to be player/coach. Now is the time.

I want to see Maria and Elena D in the team.
Myskina shouldn't refuse to play next year.
If it is on clay, Russia will be advantage because of these good players.

Shamil will be a captain only for Davis Cup
What abt Fed Cup?

Neiland wants to play only with current team

Who will be a captain next year at Fed Cup?

What about Anna Kournikova j/k

we dont have too many female options on who can be capt (in a few yrs no probs ;) )
Olga Morozova has already done her bit, maybe she can do it again ??

I was serious. If Anastasia was coach/captain, it would keep her in the sport longer.
And she's the reason the 2004 team is Fed Cup champion.

Olga will be the best choice..
She seems to be well-respected by the russian players.

I'm sure the next female Fed Cup capt will be Elena Likhovtseva :)

Well that be nice :) But im pretty sure Elena's got 2-3 more years left on the tour ;)

Is this because she's popular with the russians :p

I want Elena L. to stay on the tour. She's never played better than in Montreal this summer.
I wonder if being Fed Cup captain is a hard job.
I would just sit back:D , and make them all practice for 5 hours a day:angel: .

That would be an excellent choice, TBE, but

Will she be ambitious enough to want that position?
Will she be able to stay unbiased?

And I also think that she'll make a good playing coach instead of Savchenko.

I didnt say she take the role straight away, she still has a few yrs left
but she'll be the top bet to take it in a few yrs.
Most of the girls like and respect her.

only other one:- Elena Makarova who could do it, but she's got a good job in looking coaching the kids :) and she's got a few bright ones ;)
