Serena, Lindsay, Amelie, and Anastasia are going to be the front-runners for the title, I think.

Serena showed flashes of her '02 - '03 form during the YEC and I think if she is full healthy by Australia and focused she will have a good chance at winning the Australian title for the second time in her career.

Kim and Justine are questionable. If they make it through the first week comfortably and showing great form, I wouldn't be suprised if we see 'em both in the finals.

I will be very confused if Lindsay doesn't win this assuming she's not injured.

I think Steffi Graf will beat Monica Seles in straight sets, as usual.

I hope that one of my two favourite top players Amelie Mauresmo or Anastasia Myskina will win the Australian Open. :worship:
Especially Amelie would really deserve a title! :D

This is going to be an interesting grand slam as it is so open. Last Aus Open we expected Justine to win, but there are so many possibilities as to the winner in the 2005 tournament.

I hope Anastasia.

I was just thinking of her...I guess, if I had some extra money to spare I would put my money on her as dark-horse.

Oh, that's right! They have that funky rubberized surface that slowed the ball down and made it bounce higher.

Would love Elena D to come out with a new serve and complete a russian slam :)

I'm sure Lindsay is going to come out with one last surge, but I doubt her body will be able to hold up. Kim, IMO isn't playing this event. Svetlana is a one-timer. Anastasia is the best on clay and Jennifer is too inconsistent...Amelie might win, so might Serena. But, Venus looks ready and she's working hard.

PS: I'm hoping for Dementieva!

If Lindsay does'nt win this "injury free"!!!! then I would say she is done mentally!!!!

Lindsay by the book should be the winner of the last 2 slams and this comming AO.

I think Jen will have a good ozzie open,as nobody thinks she will and she is working her ass off as we speak! I also think Itll be between Lindsay Justine Serena and Sharapova(though for soem reason I see her going out early here)

I would def. add Molik and Jcap to that list . Think they both stand a chance!!! Would love for Vee or Rena to take it, but I wouldn't count out Molik and Jcap as contenders. Both Momo and Lindsay want to prove something, so watch out.

Nov 29th, 2004, 11:22 PM
I think Amelie & Serena will play the final with Serena winning in 3. Although it would be nice to see Venus win her first AO or for Amelie to win her first GS ever.

None of the above: Alicia Molik :D

If what we saw of Serena at times at the YEC were only glimpses of things to come when she´s had a full off-season to rehab, work-out and recharge.......only thing is: watch out!!

Nov 30th, 2004, 01:23 AM
If playing well, Maria has a very good chance.

MinnyGophers
Nov 30th, 2004, 01:26 AM
Amelie for sure!!!
She will have to beat Serena in a classic thirller 3 setter to do that!
GoGoGo Momo!

Nov 30th, 2004, 02:10 AM
Lindsay has a good chance but she had better ones and didn't make it. Fit?

Momo is talking herself up but increasing he pressure on herself is the last thing a player with her problem wants to do.

Nastya is playing well, should have taken Serena and Maria at the YEC and took out Lindsay and Elena. Nastya doesn't seem to have much of a break though - she played the fed Cup final and is back on 1/1/2005 for the hopman Cup and then Sydney. add in some Fed Cup celebrations and its not a long break and then a lot of tennis.

Maria is playing well but would need the right draw.

Sveta may have to recover after the Fed Cup but the court is better for her. Depends whether she is rested and redy to move on or stillin a lull.

Elena - you wonder what she has been doing since the YEC. If she turned up with a consistent serve who knows?

Serena? Fit? ready? Consistent?

Jen - someone has to beat Serena early.

Vera - ought to do well sometime in 05.

Patty - lots of points on the line.

Andy.

I would love to See Masha win but i think to my delight as well Serena will show everyone she is still the Empress of Tennis and take the title.

Would love Elena D to come out with a new serve and complete a russian slam :)I will second that!

But realistically speaking, Elena does not do well usually at AO for whatever reason, her offseason was spent more on holidays than working out.. etc.

Again, the thread starter decided not to include JCap for some reason, but that's ok, she seems to play better when the spotlight is elsewhere. My pick would be Jen, and I'd be silly not to include some from the YEC that played well and on a roll... Lindsay, Serena, Sharapova, and Mauresmo. Of course, if Monica enters then my *hope* would be for her to win it, but reality then sets in and I think it's possible, but not probable.

I have a weird feeling that Capriati will win the Aus Open. I think a lot of the Russians will not do so well for some reason. I also think Cjlisters will make a big return reaching the SFs.

God, I hope the Aussies won´t be pissed at Kim and just continue to be nice to her

I think Venus-Serena-Kim-Justine will come back to show who is boss

Venus already knows who is the boss!!!!! She played 16 tournaments and did'nt qualify to top YEC. need to say anymore????

As for the other 3, yes they could comeback, but its already crowded, I'm not sure if there is still room for everyone.
