View Full Version : 2004: Who did you think would win a tour singles title but didn't?

I would have said that:

Nadia Petrova would have come away with a title this year but didn't manage too. Her best result was a final appearance at Gold Coast - it is funny as she was ranked #6 in the world this year at one time without winning a title.

Jennifer Capriati didn't win a singles title this year either which surprised me - she had a championship point in Berlin but lost that to Mauresmo.

Karolina Sprem didn't a WTA title this year either - i expected her to win at least a Tier IV. Her run at Wimbledon keeps her high in the rankings to get seeded at medium events though.

Was hoping that Silvia Farina Elia, Conchita Martinez and Maggie Maleeva would win a title in their sunset years too.

I expected k-lina to win a smaller one too...the only problem is she didnt play any after the aussie open...im pretty sure she only played one or two at the beginnning...after that it was tier 1, 2 and gs

yeah, k-lina only played tier i and iis after AO (and she got close to winning one of the tournaments before AO)

i hope she plays a couple of smaller events so that she can win a title

I was hoping Silvia Farina Elia would make a run at Strasbourg, where she had won the last couple of years...Specially after losing ANOTHER final in Canberra.

Kim Clijsters. Did she win one this year? I may be wrong.

Jennifer should have won something.

Kim won Paris and Antwerp. Antwerp was her last event before the wrist injury.

Kim Clijsters. Did she win one this year? I may be wrong.

Jennifer should have won something.besides retiring against bovina, she remains unbeaten, her only real loss to justine at the AO.

The biggest surprise for me is Mauresmo not winning any of the 5 biggest events in women's tennis. But one major consolation is that she made it to number one.

Silvia Farina-Elia fucked up at Canberra and Paris Indoors where she led a 5-1 in the final set against Paola Suarez at Canberra final as well as had a match point against Kim Clijsters in the semis of Paris Indoors! :o

I was hoping that Farina-Elia makes 4th straight titles at Strasbourg but she obviously failed the mission  The winner opponent, Lindsay Davenport played crap in the next day!

I was hoping Conchita wd win one, and she (only) made the Charleston final , winning the 1st set vs Venus.
This loss was the most disappointing for me this year even if it was a final and that she lost in early rounds more often, this is the saddest one for me this year.

Hope she'll be able to win title 33 before retiring...(in FO ???)

Petrova and Shiavone should have one by now but they seem to avoid playing down to Tier 3s or below where it would happen easily in favour of playing with the top players. Different views on the relative merits or rankings, tournament wins and playing top players v easily beaten players I suppose.
