So normally in Tier IIIs there is byes for the top two seeds in the opening rounds. But in 2005 the WTA is getting rid of the byes in all Tier IIIs except for Strasbourg, Istanbul, Rosmalen, Bali.

Will the top players still commit to Gold Coast, Pattya, Memphis, Bogota, Acapulco, Cincinatti, Guangzhou, Tokyo, Hasselt and Quebec?

I don't think so :p

If some of those tourneys still offer so much money to top players, they will definetly play with the assurance that they won´t have to step on courts until the very last possible day...

Beating an extra opponent means a couple extra quality points...so why not?

Bravo to those tournaments for dumping the byes. Hopefully the rest will follow suit :yeah:

When did this happen? I mean it is something that needed to be done in the first place from day one. The top players in a tier III are not necessarily the top in the world, therefore they are not worthy of the bye and it would help them more if they had to play from day one, that is the reason they played, right?
