Well yes in one way it is good news, so Mary will probably now play for sure. But it will be even harder for France to win. But I am sure they can still do it.

Here is an article that I find on "court central" website ; It is about Mary's place in the fed cu team since mauresmo withdrew :

I've found an interview of Mary (Court Central) about the new deal in the french fedcup team :

Pierce: "Pas plus de pression"
18/11/2004

Come on girls :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

mary said she understands mauresmo's decision. she did't try to persuade her. because mary believes everybody has the right to make her own decision. and all the girls in the fed cup team want more time to rest.
for mary, without mauresmo doesn't means there's more pressure on her. the russians are the fav. but they carry more pressure too. so, we'll see~
and she's disappointed too that the final will be in russia.

To sum up:
mary seems to be upset of what Mauresmo as done...she would probably have done te same if she could have...she have just three or four weeks of rest before the AO and she'd love to have some more...

But she seems to be pleased playing the fed cup fo france...for her country...being the captain.:hearts: .and share her knowledge to the other girl

She react about the fact that the fed cup has to be played in Russia because of money....nothing special..;

but i have read today that she had still her shoulder injury....and that she may quit...the thing is taht she is in Russia...but if she is still injured i really want her to quit and take some rest ot get healthier:sad:

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks so much for your words, and I have to tend to agree with your points. I think that if Mary is still inured she should rest it. I am so glad that Mary is pleased to be playing for France. I hated it when she did not play for France. Oh all the others will get plenty of wisdom from her.

Well I hope that if she does not play she will stay in Russia and cheer and still be part of the team, even if she is not to play.

It is such a shame that MONEY desides where the Final will be. I think there was not much crowds in the finals last year ??? It would be cool to see it for example at RG, well I am biased as I do support France 100 % and also I just love RG.

Lets just she what happens. And I know for sure that Mary will make the best desicion for her.

take care all

Cool...I think its great that Mary is the captain of Fed Cup and is able to play for France...:bounce:

However...I think its going to be tougher for France, without Mauresmo, to beat Russia....sure Mary is more than capable of beating Sharapova, and the rest of the Russian girls....but is Mary's in the right form???? Having Mauresmo would help the task much easier for Mary, Tatiana, and the rest of the girls....after all Mauresmo is number 2 in the world...

Having said that...I still hope that Mary and Tatiana will play the singles...I think they are the two best singles player France have that can really damage the power of those Russians girls...with all respect to Loit and Dechy...I don't think they can match the Russians as well as Mary and Golovin does...

Oh well...whatever happens...I hope Mary will have fun and FRANCE WILL WIN!!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

The draw for the semifinals took place at the Krylatskoe Ice Stadium at 14:00 local time on Tuesday. The first semifinal will feature France versus Spain at 11:00: Tatiana Golovin will open for the defending French against Anabel Medina Garrigues, and will be followed on court by teammate Nathalie Dechy against Maria Sanchez Lorenzo. Dechy and Golovin have stepped up as No. 1 and No. 2 singles players respectively in the absence of Amelie Mauresmo and, now, an injured Mary Pierce.

Mary has not trained with a raquet since her lost in Quebec !
She suffers her shoulder, and a French doctor, who is in Moscow, said that Mary will be able to play tennis tomorrow or thursday. Then, he said that it's Guy Forget and Mary who will decide if she can play saturday !
Moreover, i've read that Mary is not in the team for the moment, but if there is TIE after the 4 single matches, Mary could play the double !

So, for the moment, one thing is sure : Forget doesn't want to take risk with Mary, and hopes Dechy and Golovin will win their matches to send France in final !

THEN, thursday and friday, Mary will have the opportunity to show what she's able to do, and we all know that Mary (and probably Golovin) is the only one in France who has a chance to beat Russian girls !

In spite of all, Mary is still in Miscow and even if she doesn't play, she will support her friends ;)

Hope she'll be better soon !

Injured Pierce pulls out of France's Fed Cup defence
Tue 23 November, 2004 15:16
By Gennady Fyodorov

MOSCOW, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Mary Pierce pulled out of France's defence of their Fed Cup title at the last minute on Tuesday with a shoulder injury, increasing Russia's strong chances of taking their first crown.

France were already missing world number two Amelie Mauresmo for their semi-final against Spain after she withdrew last week to prepare for the 2005 season. Russia, with two grand slam champions in their team, play Austria in the other semi.

Mauresmo and 2000 French Open champion Pierce led France to victory by beating Russia and the U.S. a year ago in Moscow.

In Wednesday's opening match, it will be 16-year-old Tatiana Golovin of France who takes on Anabel Medina Garrigues.

Nathalie Dechy, the highest-ranked non-Russian in the finals at 21, meets Maria Sanchez Lorenzo in the second match at Moscow's Krylatskoye Indoor Arena.

U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and French Open winner Anastasia Myskina spearhead Russia's campaign to capture their first Fed Cup title.

Kuznetsova, ranked five, plays Austria number one Yvonne Meusburger in the first singles with world number three Myskina taking on 225th-ranked Patricia Wartusch in the second match.

French captain Guy Forget rates Russia as overwhelming favourites.

"I don't know if there is another nation that is as strong as Russia is at the moment," said Forget.

"But we are not thinking about the final at all right now because we must play Spain first.

SORE SHOULDER

"Mary Pierce has a sore shoulder and is not fit to play at this moment. But she is with us here in Moscow and if we reach the final, then she might be able to help us," he said.

Russian captain Shamil Tarpishchev tried to play down talk of his side cruising to victory. The hosts are so strong they can afford to leave out Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova.

"It seems like everyone has given us the title already, but we're not concerned with such talk at all," he said.

"Although, I must say, if we play to our potential, then we shouldn't have any problems here."

Spanish coach Miguel Margets felt the withdrawal of Mauresmo gave his team a good chance of reaching the final. "Her absence makes a lot of difference," he said.

Austria captain Alfred Tesar said he was happy to have made the last four.

"We're missing our top three players - Barbara Schett, Barbara Schwartz and Sybille Bammer - and we've brought a young team here, so it will be a great experience for them to play against Russia."

I hope Dechy or Golovin will loose tomorrow because if they are too strong, mary won't play ... if one of them lose, Forget will have doubts and won't be as confident as he's tonight !

I hope we will have news about Mary's shoulder ! She is to train tomorrow, i hope she will, and i hope she'll be 100%, without risk to hurt her shoulder more of course !!

Hello Wizzy,

Well it is a bit of a hard one really. I mean I support France 100%, but I am also a Mary fan 101%.

So if Mary is not fully fit I would want her to rest and keep the shoulder good for 2005. But if/when France get to the final and Mary gets the chance to play.

I actually would be torn on what to do. As I would so love for Mary to play in the final and helpe France win. But would not want for Mary to injure her shoulder more and ruin her chance of a great start to 2005.

So I would love to heat more CONCRETE news on Mary's shoulder, as i am sure that all this speculation is making US MARY FANS a little mad jejejej

Even if Mary does not play and Mary does not play, I think that she should be there in the photos of the winning team. As she has played and helped France get to this stage.

What do you guys and ladys think ????

Sorry if i have put people to sleep with my post :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Oh Melissa, countrys bid to host the final.

Best of luck to France to win !!!!!! Oh when they do win this week, will Mary get a medal ??? Or is it only for players that play in the final.

Hi Saby, better be safe that sorry with her shoulder I think.

When France win (POSITIVE THINKING) I hope that Mary gets a medal. She deserves it so much. For helping France get to this stage and staying with the team and cheering them on even though injured. She did not have to travell with them. But she did :clap2:

If Russia pulls out Myskina & puts in Sharapova they'll stand a change...
(i saw some photo's of the russian team..my oh my they looked pissed ..must be the positiv influence of Myskina...) Not with lovely Mary though !!!!! She deserves a medal for her support  :hearts:

I hope that if France do win that Mary will get a medal. She has played and helped France get to this stage. And she has been there to help and support them this week. She did not have to.

I think that all this fuss with Sharapova, if she does play next year Myskina will pull out. It is not for the final this year. Lets hope that this will put Myskina and the rest of the team off their game.

Oh well...

The deciding match was quite close...its a pity that they lost...

I don't like the way Myskina shows disrespect towards Nathalie by saying..."I had no choice today but go on the court and win the match. The match was rather simple. There's no difficulty playing against Nathalie," :fiery:

Myskina is getting pretty arrogant these days...she should be thankful that Amelie and Mary weren't around for France this year or else she'll get spanked by them!!!!:fiery:

Never mind....still very well done ladies!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce:

Yes the girls should be so proud of what they did.

Hi Mamno I have to agree with you, mary at least would have kicked Myskina's BUT ejjeje.

Hello ASH, poor tati, it is a shame that Mary did not get a medal if they had won.

Oh well best of luck to the French team for 2005.
