Strong Predictions for the YEC FinalsJujuh Nov 15th, 2004, 07:01 AM What's the possible score tomorrow? Straight sets or three setters? Who will win? Maria or Serena? :o Lemonskin. Nov 15th, 2004, 07:06 AM If Serena's playing like she did today, Maria ain't gonna win in two. I would desperately love Maria to won. But I think she'd lose the first set at least. Lets say 3-6 6-3 6-4 *hopes* Chunchun Nov 15th, 2004, 07:08 AM Serena 6-4 6-4 franny Nov 15th, 2004, 08:45 AM I hope its a great three set battle! Daniel Nov 15th, 2004, 09:41 AM Maria Chandafan13 Nov 15th, 2004, 10:15 AM If Serena is playing like she did during the third set of the Mauresmo watch, she's going to win it in straight sets. But if she slacks off a bit and lets Sharapova get off to an early lead, she'll win in three. I just don't see that happening... as Pam pointed out during the Amelie match, Serena tends to raise her game when she's playing somebody she recently lost to, and especially since the loss to Sharapova was so high profile, I say she comes out smokin' like the Serena of old. Prediction: (7) Serena Williams d. (6) Maria Sharapova 6-1, 6-4 Sam L Nov 15th, 2004, 10:19 AM Serena 6-1 6-2 HotSpot Nov 15th, 2004, 10:49 AM hopeSerena ..in 3 set... Andy. Nov 15th, 2004, 10:58 AM If Maria can cut out some of the errors she has the game to match it with Serena and it could be an interesting 3 setter. bandabou Nov 15th, 2004, 11:00 AM Maria´s tough.....I just hope Serena can perform better than she did last time they played. pav Nov 15th, 2004, 07:27 PM When Serena and Masha play Their final today all sorts of emergency services could come into play when the Fire service hear Masha's penetrating siren like sound Fire Engines and ambulances will gather around they will think that something has really gone wrong not knowing it's just Masha's tennis playing song and when Serena wins a big point and starts bouncing around She will cause a heaving motion to spread through the ground and the shockwave that bouncing great body will send through the dirt will set off a major earthquake alert So I just hope these two can tone down Their habits cause the officials will call off the match and act like frightened rabbits then We will all be pissed off,and We will never see Who is the real Queen ,of this years YEC Pengwin Nov 15th, 2004, 07:29 PM Serena 6-4 4-6 7-6 aNYthing Nov 15th, 2004, 07:30 PM 7-5 6-3 Williams :bounce: AnaIvanovicFan Nov 15th, 2004, 07:32 PM 6-0 6-0 maria, if serena is 100% 6-0 6-1 Sanneriet Nov 15th, 2004, 07:36 PM WILLIAMS STANDS BETTER CHANCE AT WTA FINALS THAN SHARAPOVA-RUSSIA'S TOP TENNIS OFFICIAL MOSCOW, November 15 (RIA Novosti) - Shamil Tarpishchev, President of the Russian Tennis Federation, believes that the American tennis player Serena Williams stands a better chance of winning the WTA Tour Championships final match than does her opponent, Russia's Maria Sharapova. The WTA Tour finals will be played in Los Angeles' Staples Center on Monday, November 15. Williams will have a slight advantage over her Russian challenger, although Sharapova might come out the winner, too, Tarpishchev said. He remarked that Sharapova, this year's Wimbledon champion, was in perfect shape in her first two WTA Tour matches, but looked somewhat tired in the subsequent matches. As the fatigue built up, her performance became increasingly unstable. As for Williams, she has not won many titles this year, and would not have made it into the Tour Championship finals if Anastasia Myskina had not lost to the American three sets of her opening match, argues Tarpishchev. "Williams is fresh from the nervous system's point of view and Sharapova, given her young age and the number of matches behind her, will find it hard to play in a stable way," predicted Russia's top tennis official. In the semi-finals, Williams defeated France's Amelie Mauresmo while Sharapova beat a fellow Russian, Myskina. The winner of the final match will receive 485 points on WTA rankings and 1 million dollars in prize money. The loser will go home with 340 points and a monetary reward of $500,000. Not agreeing or disagreeing, just thought this was interesting. Could be reverse psychology, who knows.;) croat123 Nov 15th, 2004, 07:44 PM Serena 0-6 7-6(5) 6-0 AjdeNate! Nov 15th, 2004, 07:48 PM Serena 62 57 63 Jorn Nov 15th, 2004, 08:51 PM I just hope for 3 sets and I'll win!! IF Serena wins! but else if Maria wins I don't care about money I bet ;) *hingis_forever* Nov 15th, 2004, 08:55 PM Sharapova 63 57 75 franny Nov 15th, 2004, 09:06 PM I think that it's gonna come down to experience. Serena knows from experience how to win when she's not at her best. She knows from experience how to conserve energy on the court. She knows from experience how to play her best even when she's tired. Maria lack that experience. She's gonna go out there trying to win every point and though she might have enough energy for a while, she's going to get fatigued really quickly. Meanwhile Serena will use her experience to help her prevail over Maria. I say, Serena in two, 7-5, 6-3 or something like that. I hope not though. DemWilliamsGulls Nov 15th, 2004, 09:13 PM I'm not going to say...last time I predicted the Serena vs Sharapova match at wimbledon...Serena loss. Serena needs shake Maria and bring back that "Street" tennis that her and Venus use to play back in 2000-2003 when they were steamrolling the WTA tour....thats all imma say....;) lizchris Nov 15th, 2004, 09:24 PM The author of the article has a point that has not been addressed by many, if any, on this board and that is the fatigue factor. Serena had one day plus played the first semifinal, so she has had more time to rest. Maria, on the other hand, had not had a day off since the first day, plus she played the second semifinal match. You all that up and you can't say that fatigue won't or hasn't set it for Maria. vs1 Nov 15th, 2004, 09:26 PM I think it's going to be a great match. Whoever wins will certainly deserve it. I want Serena to joist that trophy, but wouldn't be opposed to Maria taking it as well! This is the wta's DREAM FINAL! Their two most popular players of the eight women who entered this event in the final!! ;) Buitenzorg Nov 15th, 2004, 10:32 PM Serena 6-3 6-2 jenny161185 Nov 15th, 2004, 11:15 PM sharapova in 3 Blazedboy Nov 15th, 2004, 11:29 PM Serena 6-2, 6-4 Junex Nov 15th, 2004, 11:36 PM The author of the article has a point that has not been addressed by many, if any, on this board and that is the fatigue factor. You all that up and you can't say that fatigue won't or hasn't set it for Maria. And wouldn't it be a greater feat for Masha to be able to defeat Serena with the circumstances given? Oh i just loved rooting for the underdog (ranking aside ? ), logically Serena has edge over Maria this time. just hope the outcome would make me very happy! Knizzle Nov 15th, 2004, 11:58 PM Serena 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6) Doc Nov 16th, 2004, 12:05 AM What makes this final interesting is that nobody has a clue who is going to win it. Their basic play styles are quite similar. FOR MARIA: * She has beaten Serena before, and convincingly * She rarely shows fear of opponents or of the occasion. * She has played some excellent fighting tennis up until now. * This is her last match of the season, so she should give it her all. * Serena's form has been patchy this tournament. * Serena is under more pressure to come up with a good result here. FOR SERENA * The surface. * She has been improving round by round. * She has strong motivation to get a win here and prove she's back. * She has more experience of taking big matches. * Maria can get tired after a lot of matches - as at Zurich. Basically each has the skills and mettle to take the win. Ultimately it boils down to in what sort of form each of them manages to arrive on court. The one who plays closest to 100% of their best wins. I say Maria. fOxYLiCiOuS Nov 16th, 2004, 12:10 AM Im gunning for Sharapova to win :D It would be great! :bounce: She would be #4 in the World! :hearts: :D Venus_Serena Nov 16th, 2004, 12:16 AM SERENA WILLIAMS WILL DEFEAT MARIA SHARAPOVA 7-5 4-6 6-3  tennisjunky Nov 16th, 2004, 12:16 AM My favorite two players playing in the final. It is a dream come true for the second time this year. I predict Maria will win in straights or Serena will win in three Junex Nov 16th, 2004, 12:16 AM Then you should be rooting for Serena because she is the underdog. (ranking aside ?) i guess you missed to read that. anyway, i had a history of jinxing my faves in a tournament so i will just :tape: Besides, i dnt really think Serena is the UD, she has fans backing (though it can also be disputed that they almost have the same # of fans based on Masha US popularity), has been a YEC Champion and "she" doesn't feel like the underdog. bandabou Nov 16th, 2004, 12:31 AM What makes this final interesting is that nobody has a clue who is going to win it.
