New Album Looks To Be A Monster Hit For Mariah!

Liz Smith of the New York Post writes...

Mariah Carey is out and about, looking good and looking confident. Carey, who has seen her stock rise and fall, and then rise again, is said to have a monster hit with her new album from Island/Def Jam Records. And she hasn't even finished recording it yet! First listeners say it is "the strongest album of Mariah's career." In a career that has seen some stratospheric highs, that's saying a lot.

The label's big honcho, LA Reid, has worked closely with Mariah on this effort, as has producer Jermaine Dupri, who has a current hit with Usher and Alicia Keys.

I wish all the best for Mariah, a girl who has had her share of problems but who is, I think, essentially a young woman to whom fame in the person of career-molder Tommy Mottola came too fast and too furious. Her 1994 Christmas album remains constantly in my CD player during the holiday season. It is my favorite Mariah recording. (Her "O' Holy Night" is stupendous.)

I love Mariah but I'm hoping that this CD won't be dominated by that annoying whisper singing she's obsessed with these days. It's nice on a few songs but when it's every song on the CD it gets TIRED! I can't wait for the album though :bounce:

I agree...The whispered voice obviously isn't playing to her strengths, and it does get a bit tired sounding when it makes up the majority of an entire track. Hope to see her making better use of what she has this time :)

Mariah's last few albums have been aboslute crap.

Maybe LA can get back that winning formula. I really think Mariah is better at ballads and catchy pop ballads than at R&B.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEE Mariah Carey. I can't wait for her knew stuff.

As for the whispy stuff, I do like it but its annoying when she bails out of the high note and does the whispy thing instead.

if Mariah does an album full of rnb and hip hop with songs featuring rappers - she's going down the river! She needs about 3 massive hit singles to be back where she was - Good luck to her

Oh no, not the dreaded wailer herself. I even prefer Celine Dion to her.

The other day I actually heard Mariah finished the album, but Island/Def Jam were not happy with it. And told her that it was absolute crap, she had to get back in the study and record totally new songs...

I sure hope this is the result of her getting back in the studio. Working with Kanye is a smart step. As well for getting back with JD... I hope she actually sings on this one. I wish her all the best... I miss her days of total domination of the charts!

Erik Bradley, Music Director at WBBM-FM/B-96 Chicago has kindly shared his input on Mariah's new song "Say Something" with us:

""Say Something" by Mariah, Snoop & Pharrell is going to be an instant mega-smash. Radio should be receiving it within the next few weeks and the new CD is tentatively scheduled for first quarter 2005. Everyone will be so stoked to hear the lead single - it is THAT good. I'm more than excited to have Mariah back on the radio, especially with a song that I truly believe is going to be such a major success for her. Early reviews from people that I trust have been stellar - many music industry insiders are calling this the project that brings Mariah back to the very top of the charts...we shall see but I certainly expect that to be the case!

Lets hope so, but we've heard stellar reviews in the past-- only to be left disappointed.

People actually called "Through The Rain" stellar and the "Charmbracelet" the album to get her back to the top? The Mariah of old would never have put out a CD where the lead single was of the quality of "Through The Rain." That would have been filler space on her CDs of old; or, on the cutting room floor.

I also heard that LA was not happy with her album when he heard it (bet it was the f'ing whispers!) and pushed back the release date from Nov to 2005. I doubt she had time to prefect it in this short time so my bet is that he reviews are, unfortunately, hype at this point.

Please God, will somebody out there tell her to go back to what her first 2 albums sounded like. At least then she had HITS and was the greatest female artist of all time. Since then, and since taking control of her own career it's been down the toilet ever since. Go back to adult contemporary/R&B Mariah, rap doesn't need you... you're too good!
