What's the best match your fav has ever played???

*Dominique Van Roost; Her match against Lindsay in the first round at RG in 2000 (?) was great, especially because of all the emotions surrounding it :) Maybe the same match 3 weeks later at Eastbourne was even better :)

*Kim Clijsters; The match against Lindsay Davenport (again ;) ) last year in the final of Stanford! I was so proud she won! :D :D

lost to Capriati-RG Final, I know she lost:( but that match was probably the best of 2001 not just 'cos of the final set scoreline but also because of the emotion, tension and quality of tennis.

1. Evonne Goolagong defeating Chris Evert (then Lloyd) 6-1, 7-6 in the 1980 Wimbledon finals. She also beat world #1 Tracy Austin in 3 sets in the semi's.

2. Goolagong over Evert (not yet Lloyd) in the Virginia Slims Championships finals in LA in 1976 in 3 sets.

3. Hana Mandlikova defeating Martina Navratilova in the US Open finals in 1985 in sets, as well as Chris Evert (back to Lloyd) in a 3 set semifinal.

4. Jennifer Capriati's Aussie wins over Hingis 2001-2002.

5. Capriati's French Open thriller over Clijsters 2001.

6. Gabriela Sabatini charging the net and beating Steffi Graf in straights in the 1990 US open final.

7. Steffi Graf over Hingis in Paris 1999.

8. Mary Pierce nailing Graf in Paris 1994.

9. Pierce d. Hingis in Paris semis 2000. I saw this one in person and it rocked!

10. Sabatini over Graf in successive Lipton semi's 1991-1992. They were rollercoaster ride matches with momentumn swings and nearly had identical scores.

I have no idea what the best match was Steffi ever played(on quality) to many, mentally I think all her wimbledon wins are in the list

Well, Monica has beaten a lot of top players 6-1 6-0 or 6-0 6-1, including Hana Mandlikova.

I would say her best match though would have to be the 1990 German Open Final. Steffi was just a few weeks short of her 21st birthday, on a 66 match winning streak, and was 111-2 since the beginning of 1989. The losses were 3 setters against Gaby and Arantxa.

Anyhow, stepping into this with a lifetime 0-3 against Steffi, a 16 year old Monica dispatched Steffi in routine fashion, 6-4 6-3. A couple weeks later, she did it again.

Iva Majoli - The best match she ever played, of course, was the 1997 French Open final against Hingis. Martina was the overwhelming favorite going into this, while Iva was the unexpected underdog. Iva had struggled through many long matches going into this but somehow managed to cast aside Hingis with ease. Also, had Hingis won that match she would have won the grand slam. It was a once in a lifetime match for Iva. :D

Anna Kournikova - The best match I ever saw her play was against Sabine Appelmans at the 97 US Open. Appelmans was just a few spots away from being seeded (back in the day when there was 16 seeds) and Anna thrashed her 6-2 6-0. Anna was so mentally tough back then.

I agree that tina's best match was the ausopen 2k1 1/4. ive got it on tape an never stop watching it. There is an amazing point were she levels it on the third set at 4-4.

Though i think she was playing her best tennis at the start of this year.

Well the two matches that i love the most are:

1999 Us open Semifinal vs Venus Williams 6-1 4-6 6-3:eek:

This match was great . The talk of the tournament was the Prediction by Richard that there would be an all Williamsfinal.Well Martina prevented it but it took her 2 hours . She even came back from one break down in the third set!

Australian Open 2001
Quater Final vs Serena Williams 6-2, 3-6, 8-6:eek:

This is one of the best matches i ever saw! Both girls were fighting like hell and Martina pulled it off:hearts:

Swiss Com Challenge 2000
Final vs Lindsay Davenport 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 :hearts:

Martina finally winning in her ''own'' country! The pressure was very high but the crowd was just awesome! Lindsay was serving for the match in the third set but Martina came back and won the match!

Chase Championships 2000
Final vs Monica Seles 6-7, 6-4, 6-4

This match was so emotionally:sad: .Martina was fighting against Monica and against herself. She had to proove that she was still able to win a major one!And she did it!It was a great end of a dissapointing year and Martina was not the only one who was crying.;)

On the Womens Side, Daniela is my fave, so her best match was the IW Final days ago.
I'm sure I will add plenty more to Daniela's list soon enough.

Favourite on the Men's side:
Carlos Moya:
4th Round Versus Hewitt 4-6 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5
Hewitt in front of his home crowd, Moya trying to work out of a slump. Moya hit some of the best shots I'd seen for a while. His power took Hewitt apart, and there was great atmosphere that night.
Juan Carlos Ferrero:
Semi Final 2000 French Open 7-5, 4-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3
Two of the best on the clay. Kuerten the king and Ferrero the heir to his thrown. Both played crafty and awesome tennis, Ferrero had Kuerten, but the king return with a bang.

Lots of great Womens match, but I never really had a favourite.
I guess Kim Clijsters in the French Open final last year was my favourite for a while. Nerves, great shot, and an amzing storyline, great atmosphere, great match.

I think any match that has a mixture of nerves, great tennis and atmosphere make the best matches.

Not necessarily my favorite results, but what I consider their best efforts:

Chris Evert beating Martina Navratilova 6-0, 6-0, in the 1981 Amelia Island final. (Total domination! Navratilova didn't play well because Chris played great.)

Monica Seles beat Steffi Graf 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the 1993 Australian Open final. (I was surprised that Steffi won the first set; it seemed almost like a fluke because Monica seemed to be dominating the match. As the match wore on, Monica just seized control and battled Steffi into submission. Graf was playing well, but she simply couldn't cope with Seles' attack. Monica's quality of play -- her strength from the baseline, her consistency, even her serve -- on that day was the best I've ever seen. I remember thinking that Monica was ready to dominate the game. Alas, it was not to be.)

Steffi-Monica 1993 Asutralian Open final was not one sided as you metion in fact Steffi led 3-1 in set one, then she broke Monica at 5/4 to win the set playing brilliant tennis. The second set was close also, as it was the third they reached 2-2 in fact Steffi was winning her serve easier than Seles in the third set. Until at 3-2 Monica broke and took control of it. But it was really close despite what 6/3 6/2 in the last two sets scores can tell.
