She is quite talented, but she only has 1 top 10 win in her career against Venus in Wimbledon.
She has upset quite a few players when she started outside top 50 this year.
And she is quite justified as a top 20 player, but is she good enough for top 10?

was Venus top 10 when she was defeated in Wimbledon

Yes, #8 as a #3 seed. Controversial loss.

she needs some more top 10 wins before she can be ready for the top 10 herself I reckon.

Also

she needs consistency

Sugiyama was #11. But I did miss Dokic's loss, so make it 2.

her ranking was based pretty much solely on her zurich final, and now those points have come off she is ranked where she deserves to be, well actually she might deserve to be a bit lower
btw im not a jelena hater, i think its really sad, im just telling the truth

her performances over the last 2 years have been so substandard.

She was quite good in 2002 where she reached #4

Top 10 is very crowded and in ranking terms the players in the low teens are effectively top 10 too. Looked at the other way around the queue for the top 10 probably already includes Patty, Venus, vera, nadia, and elena B. . Karolina needs a few big wins to jump through the teens in the rankings but she also needs some players to fall out if you want her literally in the top 10.

No, not yet.

But keep training hard with your new coach!

Your day will come, K-Lina, and I'll be right there cheering for You!

I thinl she's no ready yet. Look at her record since Wimbledon. One win over a top ten player. Three losses to top ten players.

But look with more subtlety, at WHO she's beating. In matches against elite power, she's 1-4. Now look at the current top 13.

01 DAVENPORT
02 MAURESMO
03 MYSKINA
04 KUZNETSOVA
05 DEMENTIEVA
06 HENIN-HARDENNE
07 SHARAPOVA
08 CAPRIATI
09 WILLIAMS, S
10 CLIJSTERS
11 WILLIAMS, V
12 ZVONAREVA
13 PETROVA

Power, 1-13. The exact kind of player Sprem has a poor record against. Basically, you become a top ten pplayer when you win half your matches against THAT crew. The potential IS there. But it hasn't been realized yet.

I'll take Nadia out of the equation and put Vera into another category.
The category between elite and good, like Myskina or Seles some time ago.
The top 10 players or 11 do have something in their profiles to intimidate others.
Since Kim and Justine will likely be falling out of top 10, there could be an vacancy.
Vera is a great candidate for that, so this is as good a chance K-Lina can get.

There is one thing I expect to see her if she wants to hit top 10 though.
Defeat a top 5 player. If she cant pull an upset against the worst of top 5, her best is not good enough for top 10.

notice how that almost fully hinged on her zurich result though. she feel from like 40 to outside the top 100 in a week

sprem is not ready IMO. she might have a big run that takes her close but her game is far too inconsistant at present to stay there. it's not always a question of 'when' will find that consistency either - it's always an 'if'

I'd really like to see Sprem play Petrova, who of all the top 13, has the least BESIDES power. I think she'd have a shot against Myskina, but I feel Myskina is as strong mentally as anyone on tour right now, if not stronger. She would win the crucial points. But on a real good day, Sprem might be able to overwhelm her.

Myskina is very consistent.

When was the last time she lost first match of a event.

something Sprem needs to learn which will come from experience.

I have no doubt that K-Lina can beat Petrova on a regular basis.
But I'm not sure if she can do it against Vera Z. Vera in her short career has posted a far better record than K-Lina. And Vera is more consistent, if Justine falls out of top 10 after Australian Open, Vera will probably be her replacement. Karolina is just too far off with her points.

Shes been playing pretty bad lately :crying2: maybe due to her coach, or to something else....

Anyways, I think she'll make it into top 10 after RG next year ;)

No, Sprem is not ready for the top 10. On her day when her game is on Karolina is a top 10 player but there are other girls who can play top 10 tennis on their day e.g Bovina, Petrova, heck, even Amy Frazier still looks pretty hot when she's on.

The problem is that there's too many good players ahead of her that I don't see budging. I think next season will be the huge test for Sprem, as to whether she kicks on or struggles to hang on to a top 20 ranking.
