View Full Version : Patty into Zurich last 4!!

switz

it's seems that it's only here and the australian open that patty can be described as a consistant player. she's 10-1 here since 02. i can't believe that she has done so well considering she'd never been past R2 until '02.

now she plays alicia and i just pray she can get the job done and make this one of her best years (in terms of good results throughout the year)

this could be patty's year again i believe

i dont know, after i've heard the same joke 3 or 4 thousand times, i think it tends to lose its humorous effect. But if you're the type who likes to hear the same joke over and over again, year after year, and you'd rather hear the same old thing instead of something new, more power to you.

i know, but it just really bugs me, because Patty's career/life is such an interesting story in so many ways, and yet year after year people just continue to dwell on the absolutely most dull and mundane detail of the whole thing.

Off course, off course. There was an interview in a French
newspaper prior to RG which had some really wild replies
from her. They were discussing that winning "feeling" and
the journalist wondered if it was similar to a "jouissif" which
I do believe refers to something err...orgasmic, so :p

If you've got 3 grand slams, became number #1 and
won an Olympic medal, what's there to play for? Yes!
That Jouissif feeling! Kind of sorry for hubby

Patty is now up to no.14 in the rankings. great effort to move up in the rankings considering the points she had to defend from last year - and this tournament isn't over and linz is still to come. if she makes the final or wins here she is almost assured no.13 or higher at years end because clijsters will fall way down.

it's amazing, because for the most part it seemed like Patty had a crap year with a lot of awful losses, and she is still in position to finish so high. She has figured out how to game the ranking system so that with three good tournies she finishes in the Top 15.

I love how Patty teased Suarez by casually throwing away the first set, and then bringing down the hammer on her, just like she did to Maleeva on Tuesday

Alicia is a bit of a tougher proposition though, unlike Maleeva and Suarez she has enough power in her game that Patty can't really push her around so easily, and a bad first set will be more difficult to recover from. Having said that, i still think Patty is in a very favorable position. I really like Alicia actually, i run into her every spring when she comes to the 'States and she is so polite and friendly, so my loyalties are a bit divided on this one...

ok, are you happy now? I see your point, but how can you blame a player for taking advantage of a "cakewalk" draw? Patty makes her move on the draw when she sees the opening (here and in AO), which is what any smart player does. And say what you want about Maggie Zulu and Suarez (i dont care much for the latter two myself), but they are all in the Top 25.

had to bring this thread back because it has semi-cult status. I also thought Alicia seemed stronger going in, so i think Patty gave a good accounting of herself today despite the loss, nothing to hang her head over. Did you go to the matches Beat or just watch on tv? It must have been quite an atmosphere. I mean, it wasn't Zurich '02, that was something completely different, that was the hand of fate in action, Patty had something extra in the tank that week (Greeny please insert UFO/extraterrestrial aliens abduction theory here) ;) This week was just a good solid run to the semifinals of a Tier 1, good to see since Patty had been in pretty unimpressive form for six months running.

year when the final rankings are filed away for the record books.
