Just read the latest official press-release on the Linz-Homepage which apparently doesn´t offer an english-version

However, rumours are that the management of Serena called the organizers last night to announce Serena´s appearance on saturday at Linz. The organizers are still quite sceptical about all this cause the last two years she confirmed her appearance but canceled it later. They also have doubts about it due to the fact that the management did tell them that Serena will arrive in Linz but didn´t tell them when.

So basically the article doesn´t say a lot and the organziers seem to be really afraid of announcing whether she will appear or not. I guess we will know on saturday.

For all of you guys who can read it:

Die Anzeichen eines Antretens von Serena Williams
in Linz verdichten sich - Generali Ladies-Veranstalter
Peter-Michael Reichel bleibt jedoch skeptisch

http://www.generali-ladies.at/news5_61.htmlIsn't placing it on the official website announcing it? Serena did say she would not be playing outside of the states, i doubt she will be coming, Venus may and then pull out of philly esp becuses she is already in Europe.

Yeah, but the article is written in a very cautious way. It doesn´t state anything, the organizers are quoted and it seems like it´s a big big mystery if she appears or not. Maybe they only wanted to get some attention for the tourney...you may wait for Steve´s translation.

Serena Williams called the tournament office in the beginning of the week and commited to the tournament. She was on the alternate list but as Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi pulled, she got in the maindraw. But the tournament director is pretty sceptical about her playing Linz as she also commited the last two years, but pulled out everytime. Serena's management called Thursday night that Serena will arrive on Saturday, but they don't know yet exactly when. The WTA sent tournament director Sandra Reichel an email but she will only believe that Serena will play when she goes out of the plane in Austria and she doesn't also whether Serena is fit and she remind her knee injury which forced her to pull out of Filderstadt and Zurich.

I hope they don't announce that she's coming when they know she is not showing up. It's not a good thing to get some fans excited to sell tickets. :o

Um...Serena had a knee SURGERY last year, hence she HAD to pull out of every tournament she had been comitted during the fall season.

That'd be strange to see her coming in Europa just for one week, then come back to the USA playing Phily + Masters. That's a total non sense.

Did Rena show up to Zurich and then withdraw, or was she in the states the whole time?
