Mucb better! Forehand was very good, had no problems with the pace, serve was good esp when in break points down.

K lina made alot of mistakes but thats becuase she didn't expect venus to play a clean match and not gift her too many free points.

Hey :wavey:
When you say her forehand looked different, how do you mean? Can you tell us how she played today and what exactly hemmed K-lina in? Did Venus play aggressively or was Karolina making a bunch of mistakes. Did Venus serve well? Tell us, tell us! :D Please.

Karolina was making a bunch of mistakes but Venus was the epitome of consistency :) she seems to have changed her swing and hits up more...more topspin than usual i guess. her serve was awesome and her backhand is having the same deadly effect will less effort. she was coming to the net but Venus tends to that every match nowadays :bounce: her serve got her out of trouble a lot which is good. maybe she's developing Serena's art of clutch serving?

i guess she played deep but consistent balls, and was excellent in choosing the right one to put away :wavey:

Better luck next time K-lina.

I only watched about 5 games but Venus is so much more confident. Her forehand and her serve were alot better and she also came to the net alot. I haven't seen Venus attack like that in ages. I don't know if it's good enough to beat a top seed, but it was definetly better and it blew K-lina away.

This sounds reassuring. I was watching the scoreboard from 3-1 and what I enjoyed most was seeing Venus save break points and closing out that match on her first attempt.

Apart from that I'm shocked that she won; I never thought anyone could have a worse time than Venus.

I have a love-hate feeling when it comes to Venus/Sprem. It's euphoric to see the player I love the most whoop ass on the player I dislike the most. I will never forgive Sprem for accepting that point at Wimbledon which she knew she hadn't earned and I'm glad Venus spanked her.

Good job, Venus. I hope this form you showed today will only improve.

I think you're right. Venus is the last player on tour who needs 113 square inches to hit with. Perhaps she should switch to the NCode Pro Staff Tour 95.

Reebok didn't pick up her option, so it would be understandable for her to test new gear, but Adidas? Three of the family's sworn enemies (Hingis, Kournikova, Henin-Hardenne) are with them. If Venus doesn't re-sign with Reebok, I think she should put out her own line. ;)

But they also have the father as their coach (Oracene didn't go to San Diego, only Richard was there).

I think Serena has been doing good this year and will win at least a GS title next year.

I think Oracene has always looked bored during Venus and Serena matches (even during the grandslams finals). She never really shows that much emotion, but she always cheers for the opponents which is very nice.

I agree that maybe Venus should utilize another coach to help with her flaws. But the Williams sisters and family have always been unconventional. Venus may suprise us, and win more slams without getting help from another coach.

I just hope their stubborness does not result in slamless wins from now on for Venus.

...loss to a crappy player like Venus.
Venus is still ranked #11 in the world, and has been doing quite OK this year by:

- Winning Charleston (Tier I);

- Winning Warsaw (Tier II);

- Reaching Berlin Final (Tier I) but was forced to forfeit Final to Mauresmo due to a left ankle sprain;

- Losing championship match 7-6(4) 5-7 7-6(4) in 2 hours 53 minutes to Davenport at Stanford (Tier II);

- Leading at 7-5 2-0 in Los Angeles SF (Tier II) vs Davenport but was forced to retire due to a right wrist sprain.

Correction: Venus led 5-0 in the first set before she started to be affected by her injury. Davenport won the next 9 games before Venus retired.

Thanks a lot.

By the way, at that time I was waiting for Venus in Carlsbad. I went to see Sharapova practise at the Acura on Saturday 24th July, and her father Yuri told me that Venus retired from LA while leading at such such scores (but I didn't remembered the scores).

But unfortunately for me, Venus withdrew from the Acura.
