It's nice to see the Russians a little more spread out for once. The earliest Russian matchup would be Vera Douchevina vs Maria in the 2nd round. Elena Bovina could face a tough 2nd round matchup with Lindsay

I wish Sveta was playing. She would have had a bye, about 5 days to rest, and a great draw.

go Vera D :) get thru r1
just hope she makes it and plays Masha
been looking forward to a re-match for 2 yrs now

Will they redo the draw if Lindsay pulls out?

TheBoiledEgg

Will they redo the draw if Lindsay pulls out?
only if she withdraws before tomorrow's schedule is released
then Masha would take Lindsay's spot
and Serena would move to Sharapova spot :scared:
and a #9 seed comes in... Patty into spot left open by Serena.

otherwise a LL just takes Lindsay spot like last week :o

With Serena withdrawing, Lena B should make the SF if she beats Lindsay :bounce:

Thanks Epigone :) i just saw it on GM also DAvenport is out, i dont know why but according to TBE : Elena Dementieva takes her spot and Vera Z takes Elena's spot .

At this rate, only Zvonareva and Petrova are left in the top half

I think that this may be a worse draw for the Russians. Lena D and Lena B could meet in the 2nd round, and now there are no Russians in the top quarter of the draw :(

TheBoiledEgg
Oct 17th, 2004, 04:24 PM
as long as Lena B can beat Banshee again
it will be a good tourn :)
Lena D is at her most vunerable in the 1st and last matches in tourns :scared:

I just hope Vera D dont play tomorrow as then as cant see it :(
only 1 court so all matches late in day will be on TV :)

they do start at 10am as well, so 2 matches before ES starts :(

Elena D. spoke of how tired she is. She's still not definate for Zurich.
This is a big tournament for Vera. She can still make the YEC.

This tournament is missing Lindsay, Anastasia, Serena, Sveta, Justine - there's a lot of opportunity here.
A very soft Tier I.

This will probably be a horrible tournament for Russians.

I see Lena B going down to Schiavone... she's played tons in the past 3 weeks, she'll be tired, and Trannie is due for another win over her. This seems like the 20th time they've played now...

Lena D... blah. If Lena B plays well, she beats her. Lena B won't. So, whatever.

Lena B. was in the same section with Serena and Lindsay. Now I can see a Bovina-Sharapova semifinal.

Mary beating Venus or Sprem in the QF? I don't see it.

Lena D will probably play horribly and get to the final somehow.

Fat chance I know, but I can always hope...

Only one she can seem to beat in a final is Elena B.

If you're optimistic and believe in superstition, the last time LenaD was top seed, she won the title... That wasn't a T1 event though...

This is a Tier I without Amelie, Lindsay, Serena, Justine, Kim, Sveta, Nastya, or Jennifer.
This tournament is wide open. A Tier I that anyone can win.

I tip Sharapova to win this, as long as somebody else upsets Venus Williams. The dark horse is Molik. She can never be underestimated. While it's unlikely she will win the title, she is capable of producing some upsets... which means someone unexpected/unwanted wins the title.

With all the withdrawals this T1 is almost as masterless as the Madrid Masters Series which is also playing right now.

Epigone

If Elena Bovina defeats Elena Dementieva, I don't think that Maria will beat her.

In the top half, Vera looks good, but she also looked good when Kim withdrew at IW, and look what happened :sobbing:

I'm going to say that this will be the second all-Russian Tier I final in a row.

The tourney has already started... can you still pull out this late? Whoever is supposed to meet you will have no opponent...

EDIT: As I feared, Molik has beaten Zvonareva. Look out Russia! Petrova might have a chance against her.

Thursday, October 21, 2004

Schluefweg Stadium (from 12.00hrs)
1. Loit vs. Suarez
2. Bovina vs. Dementieva (NB 13.50hrs)
3. V.Williams vs. Ivanovic (NB 15.30hrs)
4. Zuluaga vs. Schnyder (NB 17.50hrs)
5. Dechy vs. Petrova
6. Hantuchova/Maleeva vs. Black/Stubbs

This is a big day for the Russians. Bovina vs Dementieva should be a great match, and Nadya has to take advantage of the great opportunity that has been presented to her.

 :p Words from Sharapova:

Looking at a possible quarter final against Venus Williams:

“I think the top half (of the draw) is definitely much weaker than it was in the first place. But there are some things you cannot change. And sometimes you just have to deal with that. I played her (Williams) in an exhibition, but that was an exhibition. And the court here is a lot faster. I’m sure it’s going to be a very good match.”

What she try to said? That Vênus is weak? Or Lena is weak?

Camo on ShUtUpova, will try to enter in the tournament of LA before speaking something like that

The top half is weak. Maria, Venus, Elena B, and Elena D are all in the bottom half.

Vera was the highest ranked player in the top half :banghead:, but now the highest ranked player is Nadya.

The quality of this tournment has dropped considerably. One of the Lenas and Nadia better take advantage of this! Unlike Vera. :(

JC Federer
Oct 21st, 2004, 11:19 AM
What Maria meant was that there have been too many dropouts in the top half that it has lost a lot of top players. She may have to play Venus. I don't know who won that exhibition match, but I hope it was Maria.

In the top half, I'm worried about Molik. She could make the final, and while she's never won a T1 before, she's capable of upsetting a good number of players there. Maria or Venus would probably beat her, but that would mean they'd need to beat Lena D.... :( So I just hope Molik loses to Petrova. If that happens, the bottom half finalist should win.

Daniel

I am sure Nadia will take care of Molik, i know she is tough but Nadia has the skills to beat her. Also, quite sure Elena and Maria will reach the semis. :)

It is like I anticipated. Molik: Biggest dark horse of the draw, and most dangerous player.
