This is a great win for Anna. She seems to pull off surprises when everyone's already counted her out.

As for Ai, I hope she learns from this mistake: don't abandon your own country to play in another, especially when your chances of getting far there are better. I guess she needs a few more lessons in patriotism.

I don't blame Ai for not playing that event in Japan. People seem to forget that this was the tournament where Ai broke a bone in her finger last year and ended up having to withdraw from her quarterfinal match...

The WTA Tour website has her listed as "Anna Smashnova" again, so it appears as if Claudio Pistolesi has been dismissed from the home as well as the practice court.

Ai should have won 6-1, 6-2 again, this is a dreadful loss...what is going on....I want this year to end for Ai so she can start off fresh again....uggggghhhhhh....what an embarrassing loss....
