Who will win the Year End Championships?

Hopefully some players will withdraw so Venus can get in.:wavey:

some people said the same thing before the olympics and what happened there?

anyways, if kim's in, she wins, otherwise Lindsay wins

anton

How is Kim going to win? She has very little tourney play.
Lindsay wins the WTA events but normally loses big tournaments lately...

Andrew.

If Lindsay is motivated to do well, then she should win this. If not, then the Russian of the Week will.

But chances are it'll be Davenport, Serena or Kutznesova.

2-Serena
3-Kuzy

She is not playing Filderstadt, nobody said anything about
Zurich, Linz nor the YEC. She's still pretty much in the YEC, unless
everybody below her wins, wins, wins!

Dementieva or CLijsters(if she be the lucky 8th in the draw)

mboyle
Oct 2nd, 2004, 12:37 AM
CLIJSTERS CAN'T POSSIBLY MAKE THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!

The only person to whom the WC could go is Sharapova. She is the only player to have won a GS this year with a chance not to make the top 8 this year.

mboyle
Oct 2nd, 2004, 12:37 AM
Davenport obviously, btw.

azmad_88
Oct 2nd, 2004, 01:05 AM
CLIJSTERS CAN MAYBE MAKE IT
if she wins haselt moscow filderstatd zurich
and she is the 2 time defending champion
probably she will be the 8th girl in to the draw...
she deserve the wc

If Kim can have a good indoor season, then there's no reason why she can't receive the WC.

Remember she is the two-time defending champion. :hearts:

Agreed!!!

How can anybody even say that!
dnt they know Justine is dealing with the mafia for a greater conspiracy to make sure she will win YEC even if she will not qualify?
:rolleyes:

seriously, Justine is still in the running for the YEC!
currently the contenders to challenge Justine for the eight position the YEC (to surpass deny her a spot) are the following players with their ranking points to gain to do so:

Maria Sharapova - 634 points
Venus Williams - 739
Vera Zvonareva - 788
Nadia Petrova - 1319

The events to be played following this week including Filderstadt:

Filderstadt - Tier II - max = 350++
Moscow - Tier I - max = 450++
Zurich - Tier I - max = 450++
Linz - Tier II - max 350++
Advanta - Tier II - max 350++

so with the following assumptions, these players must :

Maria - needs to win 2 events, or a semifinal in 3
Venus - needs to win 2 events or a semifinal in 2 tier I's (not sure if she will play 2 or more events though)
Vera - same as venus
Nadia - must win 4 events which is impossible, so cut her out now!

base on the above assumptions, the chances of these players to surpass Justine is very slim.

Adding the factor that Justine will play some of the event (she only withdrew Filderstadt for now), she can still earn points to extend her lead.

actually, as of now, i am saying that Justine is sure to qualify the YEC! and if she plays there she had a big chance to win it all!

Good Luck Justine!

There is no WC at the YEC; but there is a clause that states
that the WTA can elect their own choice for the 8th spot
given unusual circumstances that overide rational rankings
or points in standings in the race to the big championship finale.

OMG!! That's even more hystericaler...:eek: You're killing me, Greeny!

P.S. I can't give you any reps because I've been to stingy in passing them around. The fact is, I use a freebie Mac browser (iCab), which doesn't have certain capacities, one of which is being able to give rep points. In order to do that, I have to fire up Internet Explorer, which is a nightmare to use on this board (or anywhere else, for that matter.) Anyway, enough about me. I don't want to bore anyone and be considered non-friendship material.

I didn't know that. Then I think -if Kim does well the following weeks- we might see her play there.

Oh and by the way, why is Justine no longer a factor??? (not a question for you to answer greenout;) )

You may have missed the topic last week; but this isn't
a joke. There is a clause, and alot of people have posted
many theories on it. The big possibility is that the WTA
will slide Maria (aka: wimbledon champ) in the 8th spot if it
came to it over Vera, Venus or even Jennifer.

Yeah, I miss a lot of topics here:)

Well, I'm happy Kim is back and is doing well at the moment, it would be a bonus to see her play at the Masters but I don't count on it.

Put it this way, I think it would be ok for Justine to make the championships, but to think that the field will be minus a lot of americans is like saying the kremlin cup minus all russians except one. I think the Wta is kicking itself in the ass right now for changing the format to a round robing format.

To think that Venus, Serena, and Jennifer might not make the championships is obsurd. But I guess that was ok for a round robing format when the tour was without depth, now it has depth and they have to eliminate a few stars that would no doubt have sold tickets anyway.

I also think adding Maria Sharapova to the mix does not change much, since she would be minced meat in the first round anyway. So it is not like she would be sticking around for the after party when she wasn't even invited to the party in the first place. It goes without saying, but I know that players are just too happy to knock Maria around a little. Well maybe a lot.

I don't think Justine will be able to compete indoors as well as the Olympics. The ball will be moving much faster.
Also it is round robin I think so she will have more chances to lose...

I don't think ppl are writing Justine off, but she is struggling with fitness, lack of match play etc. It would be great if she could win the YEC but i think its asking too much to expect from her.

Yes Lady!

It could be much sweeter than in the Olympics when all but a few of us Justine fans expected her to not progress beyond the 2nd round. Alas! she won the gold!

I have always faith in her no matter what and when she can play i know she will have a big chance to win it all! I always love my fave to be the underdog but with Justine, she had proven to me many times that inspite of her physical stature, which is relatively "underdog" against the other top players, that she is and always will be a factor and a contender in womens tennis!

Just stay healthy Justine and you may not know it the #1 ranking will be back in your hands, sooner than expected, again!

maybe it's semantics, but you can't say she is NOT LONGER a factor, that means it's over, she is finished.

She might not be a factor NOW (and even that is dubious because at the US Open she had a cold) but it doesn't mean she won't be a factor in the future.

We can say the same about Venus, or even Serena, they are not the factor they used to be, for different reasons but it doesn't mean they will not be in the future,

I don't expect Serena's knee to be injured for ever.

I don't expect Justine to be ill for ever.

I don't know about Venus, but she might well get her confidence back.

I think Justine can win the YEC. She'll probably be ok by then, and when she's feeling good, nobody can beat her! She proved that at the Olyimpics this year.

Serena, Kuznetsova, Dementieva and Lindsay are strong contenders too to be considered.

Greeny,

did you notice hair in that pic? I think it got a more stylish do, or is it always like that.

She really lookede beautiful in that pic, simple with no make-up and yet her beauty just exudes and she looks very warm.

this is the first time i have posted and commented about Justine's beauty, so i guess there is really something in that pic to admire!

Nice hair? Amazing what a bit of shampoo and a comb can
do for a change! :lol: She resembles Axl Rose of 80's
band Guns and Roses to me in that photo. ;)

No, I think she's just gotten it trimmed, it
was longer at the US OPEN, and at Nathalie's wedding.
