One of the few things that I like about winter...it means that the FS starts again :D

Of course here in the UK, we get no coverage until the Europeans  Maybe if we're lucky we'll get holiday on ice @ Christmas *sigh*

Little Kevin Van der Perren is too cute for words  hehe *

Michelle won with a solid skate plus it seems like her jumps are getting bigger and cover more ice... :smoke: I hope she adds that triple loop at skate America.

Sasha ---> I mean... :retard: I don't want to sound stupid or anything, but doesn't it seem like it might be her flexibility:confused: It seems like her own flexibility puts her off balance a lot.

and before I'm done for the day...

Can I say how happy I am for the Mexican Figure Skating Federation?:bounce:
It seems like Humberto C. is taking his skating very seriously and is perfecting his triples and already has a triple-triple (not one of the ultra hard ones though)...but anyways... I think a top 12 finish (in the future) is not out of the question. Plus a 4th place at the Boston Open is very good to open his season.

Go Humberto !!! BTW Johnny Weir is skating his long program to Raul Di Blasio's Otonal which is an awesome piece of music. I think Johnny can do an excellent job with it.Good to see that Michelle is going to have a more full season although I doubt she'll go to the GP final if she makes it.

No, he is 5'7-8' according to the ISU. I think more like 5'7 though.

Isn't Joubert about 5'10?
 He is? Well I was under the impression that the taller you are the harder it gets to squeez those revolutions . Don't mind me I guess;)

SelesFan, Otonal is the perfect program for Johnny.

No, he is 5'7-8' according to the ISU. I think more like 5'7 though.
Hm. I had read he was taller, but I read that on a fan board, so you know... I tried to take it with a grain of salt ;)

Crazy Canuck
Oct 3rd, 2004, 03:35 AM
I'm not convinced of the accuracy of the ISU stats. How old are they? He's 20. If they were done say, two years ago, they are probably dated.

Miss France is listed at 1.73m and he's taller than her. So there ;)

Jarrett
Oct 3rd, 2004, 03:42 AM
I will admit they could be outdated but he looks short IMO. :P

Crazy Canuck
Oct 3rd, 2004, 05:13 AM
I probably just think he looks taller than he is because I like him :yeah:

I'm willing to comprimise and say that he's not quite 5'10 ;)

Agreed, somewhere between 5'7"-5'10" ;)

Thanks for the pics. MK looks great there. And so does Amber. Shizuka OTOH, yikes.

Crazy Canuck
Oct 3rd, 2004, 05:36 AM
Then there is the wonder that is Julia Sebestyen's costume. I mean - huh? Maybe if I saw it "in action" with her music I might get it. I sincerely hope that the same can be said for Brians, although I'm doubting it.

HA! serves the ISU right! ABC didn't spend a ridiculous amount of money for the broadcast rights of International competition. ---> :haha:

so now the ISU has to settle for the 5 million that ESPN is offering them.:secret:

Go ABC ! :armed:

If you want full clips of particular programs, you can download filesharing programs, "soulseek" or "rinkside" (I use the latter) which people share figure skating stuff over. I was amazed at the wealth of stuff I found on there. I think I've now seen every Brian program or interview ever broadcast on tv anywhere ;)

Ugh, what on earth is Shizuka wearing for her FP. OK, so its to Romeo and Juliet, and therefore fits the music, but its hideous! As my fav skater, I beg her to change this costume by the time the season proper starts!

Here's a pic:http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/041002/483/mnak10310020405

You can't actually see it properly in this pic...its really unflattering on her though.

Michelle Kwan
Sasha Coehen and
Jenny Kirk

My questions is..where is Sara Hughes....she is another forgotten Olympic gold medalist..along with Tara Lipinkski...they just take the gold and run...and are totally forgotten...in my opinion..they will NEVER be a legend as Michelle Kwan...I've never seen anyone skate with so much heart and soul the way this girl skates..the only person that ALMOST skates with passion is Chin Lu...or Lu chen...lol

From the looks of it, she's likely she didn't break every bone in her face and snap her neck :o

I was under the impression that she was just seriously concussed and had some memory lloss from the time right around the incident.

Irina Slutskaya's SP score is VERY impressive. I think it's the second highest this season, behind Arakawa (at NHK Trophy). Let's see if she can keep it up through to the long program. Coming back from injuries last year (after being away for the 2002-2003 season) proved to be difficult for her, she didn't have the strenght and endurance she once had. I think this is looking really good for her and I hope she does well.

Too bad about Joannie and her fall in the SP, but there's only 0.38 seperating 3rd from 5th, so she can still make it onto the podium. The ladies' free skate goes Saturday.

Obviously the skaters are more concerned about World Championship than Grand Prix Final.
It's great to win the final, but it does not make you a star, just take Emmanuell Sandhu and Fumia Suguri as examples who won last year. So one way they can do I guess is to make Grand Prix a qualifying event for World Championship. Or they could raise the prizemoney somwhat.

Joannie fell on her opening 3L combination. And as you said, 3 points off for not performing the jump very well and another point for the fall. SHe would have been in 2nd. Still, the free skate is coming, so anything can happen.

Well, I can see why they might feel the need to take action... I'm just not sure that this is exactly the best route. But what else is there?
Let's face it, Figure Skating isn't what is used to be 10 years ago. After the Lillehammer Games, there was a Figure Skating competition (Pro-AM cheese fest championships) every weekend from November to March. Now, it's on the decline, perhaps not in Canada, but in the States it is. So, I can see how having big name sakters pull out of GP events hurt the federations and ISU putting on the events. They had to cut down prize money this year. I hate the fact that it's the skaters taking a cut in their paycheck and not the federations.

I too think it's going WAY too far if they are thinking of "prohibiting" skaters for a period of time from taking part in World and Olympic competition, just because they pulled out of a GP event.

Am I the only one to think that the schedule doesn't quite work. They start the GP events in October. And, for 6 weeks in a row, you have a competition, two weeks later the Finals (December). The Worlds are almost 4 months after. When is a sklater suppose to peak. There's no build up, lack of mementum. I think they should extend the schedule and add 2 events (like Junior GP), and run it for 16 weeks (1 event every other week). The GP circuit can finish up in January or February. Than, you can have your National Championships, Europeen Championships and Four Continents.

Congratulation for Canadians having a metal in all discipline.
Angela will receive ZERO points for this event, and might not make GP final.
Viktoria and Miki have passed her in the race, now she is at #6 with no chance of gaining points, and Irina will have one more event to pass her.

For the men, Jeffery has clinched, but the race is still early since no Russian men have skated yet. Stefan has been eliminated from the GP final with a bronze. Next week the entries should be clear.

For the pairs, currently the top 3 teams are Chinese and they will qualify.
But Ding and Ren since they didnt make the podium this week will not earn direct entry. Canadian pair will have to wait until Cup of Russia to find out if they qualify.

For the dance, all 3 teams on the podium will probably qualify.

Miki landed 6, maybe even 7 triples and still only came 4th in the LP...?!?! I don't understand would have to see all the performances.

Nice comback for Irina! Congrats! (Though I heard she was quite over-marked) Still, nice to see her back :)

Miki did have great tec scores but as usually her presentation was not good. Joannie landed a triple-triple combo. I think thats the first canadian to do that in a very long time. She also had a triple-triple sequence. Her only mistake was doubling her second lux(sp?)

two of those triples were so underrotated that they got downgraded to doubles so she actually only got credit for 5 triples. ALL of her non-jump elements are only level 1 while all the other competitors had at least some level 2 elements. Irina is the only competitor that had more than 1 level 3 elements .

I'll take your word for it :D

I never followed through a full season before this year. Before this I was on a two year hiatus or only watching when it was on the telly :D

I'm happy.

Johnny Weir, Brian Joubert, and Ryan Jahnke are by far my favorites. Brian is just awesome, but Johnny has been on fire this year. He also won his non-scoring event.

I hope that these three finish 1-2-3 at the 2006 Olympics, with either Johnny or Brian finishing first... I can't decide. But I suppose Brian

Shizuka (Arakawa) was scheduled but pulled out (get well soon! :D ) and so did Yoshie Onda. Irina won pretty easily, landing 6 or 7 triples. Michelle was clean, but only did five triples. Sasha fell three times!! Evgeny won the mens VERY easily. Both events were quite splatfests hehe.

Angela "was robbed" at the Marshall's event. Sasha had THREE falls and was completely held up. And Alissa I believe had two falls. From reports, the crowd was booing her marks (Angela's) loudly. Angela landed 4 triples and was last. Whatever.

Michelle wasn't clean. She doubled footed the salchow, and maybe the second lutz. She was also slow. But I think some of it can be based on the fact that she is breaking in new boots. But the GOOD NEWS - different spin positions, more transititons, and more complicated footwork, yay! Can't wait for Nationals.

Shizuka is having a tough year, being the reigning world champion. She is now almost always the favourite to win, and I think she is getting alot of pressure in Japan. (Hardly surprising, they did the same to Ito!) I think she's been feeling it a bit...also she actually planned to reitre after worlds last year  Then of course, to everyones surprise, she won! Naturally, she decided to carry on until the Olympics next year at least. However, as she didn't plan to compete this season she says she came into it a little unprepared...not to mention all the problems she's been having with her new boots.

All year she's been fantastic in the SP's (esp at NHK and the GPF  ) but has had problems in the free, which suggests to me its a fitness problem, as well as her getting nervous.

Anyway, its Japanese nationals this weekend, but after that she's got loads of time to rest and prepare for worlds in March in Moscow. She's my fave skater and has got 2 gorgeous programs this year so i hope we'll see the best of her by then! Go Shiz!! :worship:

Real awful news coming out of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships which are going on in Portland this week. I'm sure most fans are familiar with Angela Nikodinov. This is so shoking, my heart really goes out to her and her family. She has gone through so much in the past.

Angela Nikodinov's Mother Dies in Car Accident

(1/12/05) — It is with deep regret that U.S. Figure Skating announces the death of Delores Nikodinov, the mother of ladies skater Angela Nikodinov (http://www.usfsa.org/AthleteBio.asp?id=2311)

Angela and her family were in a car accident today at 9:19 a.m. in a cab on their way from the Portland International Airport to their hotel. In the vehicle were Angela, her father Nick, her mother Delores, her coach Igor Pashkevich and the cab driver. Delores Nikodinov was pronounced dead at the scene. Angela, Mr. Nikodinov and Igor and were transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Angela and her father were treated and released. Igor is listed in fair condition and will be kept overnight for observation.

We are extremely saddened by this tragedy and all of our support is with Angela and her family at this time. Our hearts go out to her and her father. The figure skating community is a close one, and we all grieve with the Nikodinov family.

Nikodinov has officially withdrawn from the competition.

Johhny Weir? Johnny who?

Haha I'm just delighted to see how much he's grown since he won Junior Worlds way back when, and I've been his fan all along .

:)

Although all this success means I haven't had the chance to speak to him in ages, haha oh well rather him be too busy , then perform how he did when he did have time to talk to me ;)

Go Johnny !

This event took place Dec 24-26th

All Japan Figure Skating Championship

1 Miki Ando 3 1 172.47
2 Mao Asada 4 2 166.82
3 Fumie Suguri 2 3 166.54
4 Aki Sawada 6 5 154.73
5 Akiko Kitamura 9 4 147.54
6 Yukari Nakano 7 6 147.48
7 Yoshie Onda 5 8 145.87
8 Mai Asada 8 7 136.77
9 Chika Suguri 11 9 126.85

Shizuka Arakawa lead after the short program, but seemed to have pulled out? I expect her to be at worlds along with Miki Ando, and the third spot is up for grabs. It looks as though it'll be between Suguri and Asada, with Asada performing better than Suguri, but just barely. Fumie has had quite the awful season, and Asada is off a win at the Junior Grand Prix Final. Yoshie once again falters at Nationals after a good Grand Prix season, she will not be at worlds for the second year in a row.

Also notably absent is Yukina Ota , Four Continents Champion last season. Fumie had another dreadful Long Program, all the same with her.

Takeshi Honda won the mens event.

I wonder what Michelle would've done if she had won in 1998 (like she should have, but that's another post) , I doubt she'd still be around, and have set all of these records like she has.

It'll be a very, very interesting show down in Torino, as I think this will be the toughest field Michelle will have to face.

If Sasha can learn to be consistent, Irina skates the way she has, Shizuka skates like she knows how, and has her bigger difficulty, Miki Ando's jumping is really unlimited, the Canadian ladies showing great promise. It'll be very interesting.

Good luck to Beatrisa tonight ! :)

--

Dissapointed in Inoue and Baldwin, but glowing for Orscher and Lucash, I met them at a show a year ago, and they are very nice. Katie was on the phone a lot , and well Garrett is pretty cute, so that's all right . ;)

--

Just for fun, this is how I scored them after the short program ;)

(from the ones they showed on ESPN)

1 Michelle Kwan 5.9 / 5.9
2 Sasha Cohen 5.6 / 5.8
3 Jenny Kirk 5.6 / 5.7
4 Beatrisa Liang 5.4 / 5.6
5 Kimmie Meisner 5.2 / 4.9
6 Amber Corwin 5.0 / 5.1
7 Katy Taylor 5.0 / 4.8
8 Emily Hughes 4.7 / 4.7

Hope Anne Patrice is fighting fit for next season!

Meissner is so overrated. She agree that triple lutz was incredible, but no way did she deserve the scores in her long program, especially for presentation. I was sick of seeing her arms keep flapping around without any true artistry.

the jamierbelyea
Jan 16th, 2005, 03:50 AM
In the long program I had:

1 Michelle Kwan 5.6 / 5.9
2 Sasha Cohen 5.5 / 5.8
3 Kimmie Miesner 5.7 / 5.5
4 Beatrisa Liang 5.6 / 5.6
5 Jenny Kirk 5.4 / 5.7
6 Katy Taylor 4.7 /4.8

Obviously, If I saw other skaters Taylor would be even lower.

Dissapointed in Kirk, but since Kimmie is inelgible for WOrlds I think she'll get another crack at it, hopefully it goes better than last.

Overall lackluster Long, aside from Kimmie and Bebe, I think.

Kimmie's 3Axel was cheated, I can't belelive they ratified it, but they did that at Skate America a couple of years ago with Nakano's ...

Christine Brennan is an awful reporter.

Ugh. How juvenile.

Regardless, good for Kwan. Sasha flopping was not surprising, but it's still dissapointing the 500th time. I expect to see a better long from Kwan at the worlds.

Kwan definitley needs to step it up if she wants to contend for the gold at worlds. That single mistake in the Qualifying of Worlds could put Phaneuf, Rochette, Slutskaya, Arakawa, and Ando in front of her. Although she wont be paired against Arakawa in qualifying.

I wonder how they'll manage how much qualifying is worth this season.

Not her usual spark, she didn't look competitive, but she probably saw Sasha splat and that she was in first, so it would take a lot for her to lose.

Past couple of years ,she's been skating first and had to fight because she didnt know what Sasha would do.

Landed her jumps, but turned her second triple lutz into a double.

I love Michelle! :hearts:

Even with her not happy with her performance,
it was still better than the rest!

I think with them talking of all the history,
her skating last, and knowing that the girl before
her who was her main rival didn't put up much of a fight
maybe just rattled her a littlle!

But hey, I'm happy with it and for her this was just
a minor snag performance-wise and she'll get em' at worlds
and most likely skate much much better! :worship:

She's so damn hott! :hearts:

I like Sasah and expected it.

I just don't understand why a few Kwan fans are so catty about her. Kwan is clearly the superior competitor, so who the fuck cares about Sasha? It's really sort of pathetic. And by "sort of" I mean "really".

Sasha is a funny girl. She's one of Johnny's first and better friends on tour (along with Tanith) . She can be really fun to be around, very intense . I just hope she can put it all together one day.

Jenny Kirk is sort of reminding me of Nicole Bobek, both really great but prone to some major disastors. :(
