not nicknames that people in this board made up

Justine Henin = Juju (she's been called Juju since the junior tournaments in Belgium. she doesn't really like it that her fans call her juju, because it's a bit a personal thing, but i'm sure she doesn't hate it either ;))
Kim Clijsters = no nickname

Tathiana Perebynis=Teddy
Jannette Husarova=Jenney or Janey (or something like this, I just heard it from Garbin)

Steffi is called Stef but I find that`s for people who know her personal and I don`t so I rather stay with Steffi:)(wich if of course is a nickname too because till she was 12 or 13 nobody called her Steffi and she was just Stefanie)

Well, many spanish players use their nicknames to play...

Maria Luisa Serna = Magüi
Concepción Martínez = Conchita
María del Águila León = Gala
Ana Isabel Medina = Anabel

Others I can think of:

Virginia Ruano = Vivi (her dad cheers her on using this name, so I am guessing everybody pretty much calls her that!)
Patricia Tarabini = Pato
Maria Emilia Salerni = Pitu

And Pam Shriver is called Double Bagel hey Bea?? ;););)

I think Tamarine Tanasugarns is pretty obvious and one of the most famous nicknames in tennis. I don't even think i have to write it just look at my signature;););) :angel:

Rennae Stubbs is called by everybody Stubbsy
Lisa Raymond = Lis (called by Rennae)

Iroda Tulyaganova - Iri (TBE told me that the nickname is her real)
Henrieta Nagyova - Henya (according to her official website)
Jelena Dokic - Jeca (by friends and family)

But I don't see whats wrong with fans on a message board shortening and making up new ones for their faves. :confused:

Eleni Daniilidou is "Lena" or "Elenaki".

Paola Suarez is "Poly"...I was sitting a few seats away from Paola's coach at the Australian Open and she often called her that.

Magdalena is pretty much always called Maggie Maleeva.

Jana Novotna is/was called Jenska by her friends when she was playing, which she stated in an interview in the old Serve and Volley magazine.

Tathiana Garbin is known as TAX. ‚r‚ˆ‚… made it for herself because she needed a short name for her mobile phone. Also she is called TATHI by her coach Raffaele Tendi(Raffa) ;)

I've never seen Roger mention Miroslava. Did he say it in an interview?

Serena once stated that her nickname for Venus is "Leggs" and that Venus refers to her "lovingly" as "Muscles"!! Both names seem quite appropo to me!!!

Roger called her that way in an interview made during the olympics in Sydney 2000.

And during Hopeman Cup this year on his official Homepage her Name was Mirca. So I believe it's her nick.

No! I call Pam Shriver "Mrs. Venus Williams". Everytime she announces one of Venus's mathches, you cam practically hear the drool! She is soooooooooo in love with Venus!

lol...I haven't noticed that. I will try to notice next time. I have noticed that Pat McEnroe has been kind of mean towards Cliff Drysdale...(is that how you spell Cliff's last name?). Has anyone else noticed this? :confused:

Venus' nickname is "Vee" (obviously). I read somewhere that they also call Serena "Mica" from her middle name Jamica.

Lindsay Davenport was called "Bagel" during her junior days, for winning sets 6-0.

Martina Navratilova was called "Pluto", which was a variant on her childhood nickname "Prut" (Czech for "stick", because she was so skinny.)

Shaun Stafford was "Stick", IIRC.

Arantxa was nicknamed "El Canejo" (sp?), (Spanish for "the rabbit".) Bud Collins called her "The Barcelona Bumblebee". He also called Steffi "Fraulein Forehand". (Would she now be "Frau Forehand"?)

Wiltrud Probst was called "Willi" or "Widdi".

Pam doesn't drool over Venus as much as she was during AO. And even if she was drooling, she was also very honest about Vee's strengths and weaknesses. Unlike some announcers I can think of.:p
