Ali G and Shaggy are set for the highest new entry on this week's chart according to midweek figures. But the pair's single, Julie, taken from the forthcoming movie, Ali G In Da House, still can't knock Will Young off the top spot. Will is outselling Ali and Shaggy, currently at No 2 in the midweek chart, by a margin of 2:1.

Will has now sold just over 1.5m copies since the record breaking single was released on 25 February. Although the rate of sales has slowed down, the rate of decline is similar to last week say chart experts. HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo says: 'I don't think Will's announcement that he is gay has had an adverse effect on sales.'

Next week Will faces stiff competition from his former Pop Idol co-contestant Gareth Gates, whose new single, Unchained Melody is out on Monday.George Michael's new single, Freeek is also released on Monday and is a contender for No 1.

Ali G and Shaggy's hit is taken from the forthcoming Ali G movie, out at cinemas on 22 March.

Elsewhere on this week's chart there are new top 10 entries for Jennifer Lopez with Ain't It Funny, Celine Dion, (A New Day Has Come) and Natalie Imbruglia's Wrong Impression. http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00006309S.02.MZZZZZZZ.jpg

thanks Shirley!

i have been really disappointed with the top of the charts recentley. I mean, i have nothing against Will, but i hate his songs. And then Shakira couldnt get to number one, brandy only made #4 and Beverley just got in the top 10. its terrible:(

oh Christ, and I can't even go and assassinate Will cos I've sworn to shag him in the next seven years

Ali G ceased being funny a long long LONG time ago and Shaggy was never and will never be remotely amusing.

Shakira - that song is bloody mad! 'Tis what we need, more madness in pop.

I think it's good he is having success....we all know w/TV made singers/bands - it won't last. So good for Will that he can enjoy it while it lasts. Good to J.Lo headed to Top 10.

:fiery: I really hope the whole Pop Idol thing dies down soon, just like Popstars. I mean, where are Hearsay now? No songs released recently...

izzy - speaking of popstars, Warren Staceys duet single 'My Girl, My Girl' is out this week!

Kisha, I liked Warren actually, he has a great voice. If any Popstars/Idol singer has to be at no.1 this weekend, I'd prefer it to be him.

Frankly speaking, I think that the UK charts are a whole lot of nonsense, or maybe it is just the general public taste that is in question.

Not saying anything about the British here in gerenal though, I'm sure you all have great taste!

I agree Williams_Rulez, i mean how can Alanis be already 39th in the Charts after less than a month? pffff!!

I prefer the Albums Charts! ;)

Though i like Ali G and Shaggy's song, Julie, reminds me of Julie our nice Brit poster ;) oh and Shakira's song is cool too.

Also, Nickelback, it's a great song.

Hmm, the Brit charts certainly are pretty appalling not that anything I listen to ever makes the charts

When Westlife makes the number 1 of the UK charts so often...
