What about Antwerp, TBE?

TheBoiledEgg
Oct 15th, 2001, 07:54 PM
Antwerp is still pending ..... all depends if the Site for the event is fine.

If they are planning on holding at the same place the ATP event was then it should be ok

Good... I want a decent tournement in Belgium, certainly now that we have two top 10 players. The problem will be the ATP-event isn't?

per4ever .... I meant where the ATP event used to be played in the early 90's, not that there is one planned for 2002.

Sorry for the confusion.

The first big tourny Sydney start (as userly) Jan 6.

Eggy, What about Hamburg when will they play?

TheBoiledEgg
Oct 16th, 2001, 03:35 PM
Sydney is Jan 7

Hamburg is where its always been Apr 29.

But some events are still "pending" and some may be moved still.

about 70-80% is done but even these may have to be moved to fit in with others.

And what about Madrid?

No more tournaments in Spain, I gues

TheBoiledEgg
Oct 16th, 2001, 03:58 PM
Madrid is still there ..... so lucky

And Antwerp ...... there are two Antwerp's and both are pending.

I guess if the Tier II gets the go ahead then the Tier IV will be allocated elsewhere.

Interesting that I started a topic like this but everybody is here now

TBE, do you have an idea when the 2002-schedule will be done then ?

I mean, what strikes me is that there always was this Australian season, the Japanese tierI intermezzo followed by 2 French events paired with 2 Arabian ones

Donīt we all think now that these 2 Arabian events in particular are to be changed these days ?

TheBoiledEgg
Oct 16th, 2001, 04:24 PM
The Dubai tourn is definately on at present but that could change over the next 2-3 months for obvious reasons.

Doha is "pending"

Asian Tourns at present

Tokyo .... the usual 3
Bali
Shanghai
Surabaya
Pattaya City

Chris ..... The Schedule should be complete soon , I think just after Season is over.
and still some site checks to be made at some events .

Dubai is very safe i can assure you of that.

FED CUP Dates
April 22 is rd 1
July 15 is rd 2

Finals Nov 4

Rising Sun
Oct 16th, 2001, 05:11 PM
Thanks for that.
Glad that none of them are cancelled so far.

Will Tashkent still be around, despite the poor showings every year?

TheBoiledEgg

Canada still has its two events

Tashkent is trying to move its event to be joint with ATP (after US Open)..... but its still not settled.

TBE, you know, the only thing that really makes me curious each time before a new season is that there are for sure some strange schedules or some events we as fans would have scheduled differently or make make a European season, an Asian season whatsover, not over the whole but in certain stages, f.e. whatīs happening now with a fall season in Europe mixed with an Asian season of a lower tier level is great for top players to compete and for lower ranked players to make their way as well

But then, we also have that Brazilian event which hardly anyone knows if it was played on hardcourt or clay f.e. or that Acapulco-event as a single clay event before the main tierI events in Indian Wells and Miami or that single indoor event of Oklahoma or that single event of Tashkent before Wimbledon

Just events that noone could think of playing if working out a clever schedule of preparation for the big events and itīs just hard for those events to get stars therefore

F.e., we had years when the Pan Pacific were joined by a Japanese in Osaka or a second New-Zeeland event and now weīve a break for the US girls after the Australian if not going to Europe and so on, a time when just the Europeans make their points and itīs no big competition if not Venus comes for a single event

I think what they did with that Asian tournaments in the last stage of the season is great ; in safer times, players wouldīve stayed for Surabaya and Pattaya in that area and it would have been a big chance for some upcomers

TheBoiledEgg

Chris ..... the Acapulco tourn is scheduled week after the Bogota tourn which is also on clay. Scheduled then cos its right for time of year and end of summer nearly, although being 4000m up Bogota never gets too warm.

Bahia in Brazil was a HARD court event.

The dates are set and I don't see them wanting to move.

a few years ago there were NZ events after the AUS Open which were rather pointless so were brought forward.

Toray Pan Pacific is there cos its a convenient "stop-over" for players on their way home from AUS OPEN.

Have you heard anything on the Oklahoma City event? I hope it is not scheduled with two other events like this year.wgere the cutoff rank was like 140

Thanks for all the info. I am glad Acapuco will be pt together with the other S American clay court events. Apart from mayve Sydney-Hobart and Canberra I think playing 3 events at the same time isn't a good idea. It will never happen but it would be great if we had an extra week b't the French and W'don. To have 3 weeks of grass would be ace. Also Tashnent should be incorporated into the Dubai, Dohai scene
Quebec would be great the week b4 Oklahoma and Brazil should also come before/ after the clay court scene in S America- all in s america but change of uface would get higher players there

Great news on the Sarasota tournament. I will have 3 tournaments w/ in 4 hrs of me!! I missed out this year due to lack of dinero! Amelia Island is on for April 8-14th 2002 (from their site) and Ericcson Open in Miami on March 20-31. Time to start saving! I want to a least go to the one in Amelia Island and the one in Sarasota.
TBE -- any time frame/guess on the Sarasota one?

TheBoiledEgg
Oct 18th, 2001, 04:13 AM
Oklahoma is still with 2 other events just like this year.

Sarasota is listed straight after Miami and its a Tier IV

nothing in Argentina .... only Gaby made that possible
