Every year Filderstadt has a star-studded qualifying list.......sometime even better than a Tier 2 Tournament.

Rubin, Pierce, and Hantuchova are 2004 Gold Exempt players, so they get in before Schnyder, Farina, Maleeva etc.

Whats mean gold exempt?, why are some players on this list?

Sep 9th, 2004, 11:39 PM
Geez...this is like 2 tournaments in one. You have an outstanding main draw and a fantastic Tier 2 Qualies Tournament.

Sounds like being in Filderstadt is going to be one big party!!! Too bad I'm not there.

you can win a porsche there. thats why there are the top players. in german tv (interviews) you notice that the players are very happy and that they love Filderstadt very much.

I dunno. But a friend who was there last year told me it is cheaper then. I have to pay around 35 euro for saturday i guess. Its the one u talked to BTW. We saw each other for 10 days, was real fun. He told me that.

patty's in qualifying because she entered after the cut-off date. that's the only reason she would be in qualifying while bovina isn't

That's wrong - Filderstadt is one of Jennifer favourite tournaments but the important fact is that she isn't playing well in the indoor season is because she fully concentrate on the US Open every year.

Can someone tell me what gold exempt is? I'm puzzled @_@

after the US Open they take the rankings of the top 16 + 3 or 4 wildcards and put them on the gold-exempt list. basically it means you automatically get into draws and are first in line for wildcards if you enter late. i don't know all the specifics but it's always a controversial decision when it comes to wild-cards as they give them to people will pulling power usually and people (eg patty) often complain when others like anna and stevenson get them when they are not ranked anywhere near the top 16. thank god their is no way patty can be denied this year.

Maleeva IS gold exempt as far as I know.

You are right. Maleeva, however, is ranked lower on the list than Hantuchova and Pierce, so they get in before her.

A. GOLD EXEMPT PLAYERS
1. Gold Exempt player list
1. Kim Clijsters (BEL)
Justine Henin-Hardenne (BEL)
2. Serena Williams (USA)
Venus Williams (USA)
3. Jennifer Capriati (USA)
4. ---
5. Lindsay Davenport (USA)
6. Amelie Mauresmo (FRA)
7. Daniela Hantuchova (SVK)
8. Elena Dementieva (RUS)
9. Chanda Rubin (USA)
10. Anastasia Myskina (RUS)
11. Mary Pierce (FRA) WC
12. Jelena Dokic (YUG) WC
13. Amanda Coetzer (RSA) WC
14. Monica Seles (USA) WC
15. Magdalena Maleeva (BUL)
16. Ai Sugiyama (JPN)
17. Conchita Martinez (ESP)
18. Nadia Petrova (RUS)
19. Vera Zvonareva (RUS)
* In Germany, all players listed below Monica Seles move up
one spot on the Gold Exempt List.
The Worldwide Tournament Directors may change the order
of the Gold Exempt list by March 8, 2004. Any changes at
this deadline would only affect Tournaments scheduled after
the 2004 French Open (Roland Garros).

That list holds for ALL of 2004.

Someone who says Jenn dislikes this event does not know her.

Jenn always LOVES coming to Stuttgart because she loves PORSCHE and the team there, the tournament was organized by Anke Huber in the past, f.e..

It says something when you come from the US for just one event.

It´s obvious, if you ask me, that Jenn will add one more event in the following weeks to her schedule. I think a lot will depend on her Chase ranking.

I don't think Jen will play Moscow after what happened last year and I don't see her flying to Europe, going home, flying to Europe, going home and playing Philly, but who knows?

I'd recommend anyone who has a chance of going to Filderstadt goes, this year will be my third Filderstadt and it's just such a quality tournament. Got my tickets through and i'm in the second row from the front just by the tv cameras and press area. It's not the easiest place to find initially as i found out in 2002 as you need the skills of the sas to find the venue, but it's easy to reach the venue by bus directly from Filderstadt train station.
