View Full Version : Grass, Clay, Rebound Ace, Ice???

If you could choose a new surface for tennis to be played on, what would it be?

Some suggestions are:

You have beach volleyball, why not beach tennis? (aside from the obvious...) Good for players who wanted to improve their volleying.

More for the spectators' enjoyment really...

Hot coals
Could add a new faith element to tennis...or a huge compensation payout...
Players with poor footwork could improve here, or end up being carted off with second-degree burns.

Any other ideas?

- Water
- Bubblewrap
- and a mixture of grass, clay, rebound ace, hard and indoor!! :)

LOL @ this thread
Frey, u made me laugh with your ideas!

I like the Ice idea, I can see Venus doing a triple axel going into a swing volley maneuver ;) .
And I can see Kim sliding like crazy and her and Serena doing splits.
We got to give this one a name, after all, all Grand Slams do have a name.
1. Us Open
2. Wimbledon
3. Australian Open
4. French Open
5. Siberia Open

U know how on every surface one shot works better then the other one, or a statistic, for example, on clay, you got to rally for a long time and be patient, and the best shot is a deep shot to pin the person behind the baseline and then work them around the court and the usual boring stuff, and then there is Wimbledon, grass, the best shot is a good approach shot to the net, well @ SIBERIAN OPEN, the best shot would be to go behind the person.
Of course that would minimize injuries by a big amount ;)
I can see tennis players comign off healthier of the ice and not bruised or anything. ;)

Of course there is doubles then, Martina throwing Anna up in the air for a smash, and Serena spinning Venus in the air for a swing volley.
YES, I am going to go with it an dmake this slam ;)

I had a similar thread on this earlier this month. Anyway how about multi-coloured clay? We might as well include yellow clay, blue clay, pink clay?

Glass??? so you can see through to the bottom..... so the players look like they're walking on air.... ;)

I think playing on mirrors would be a nice idea. Maybe then Anna would win a title... or she would be too busy looking at herself! ;)

Sand would be a good idea and very funny. I think that there should be wood courts too (weren't there some at one time?)

The WTA championships should be played on living room carpet or maybe even kitchen tiles?

Mar 12th, 2002, 04:32 PM
hmmm... on matters! might be even faster then carpet.. bullet prove glass is a nice idea too...

Mar 12th, 2002, 05:39 PM
Lol! You have some great ideas!

I've got another one...
You know those bouncy castles that little kids have at parties?

That would be a great surface for short players who have trouble getting up to reach smashes!:p

Actually, they used to play on wood back in the day.

I like the idea of having patches of different surfaces all over the place. You serve and it lands on grass, and the return comes back on rebound ace .

Glass, Ice, Tiles, are cool, maybe even snow would work out. :D
