Martian Mel Mar 10th, 2002, 09:08 PM I only know that THE best player comes from SWITZERLAND! ;) Tatiana Panova Mar 10th, 2002, 09:26 PM Jesus, I know where the worst come from... angele87 Mar 10th, 2002, 09:32 PM Right now the best females players are from the U.S! smygelfh Mar 10th, 2002, 09:34 PM US Without a doubt! Go Seles! Yeah, and Switzerland! Go Hingis! And Australia! Go Dokic! Are there any more of the top ten where it wouldn't be that fair to give credit to the country they're currently playing for? Still, 3 out of top 5 seals the deal. US is the best. Rollo Mar 10th, 2002, 09:36 PM Per pint and per person, I'd say les femmes Belgiques are the best:) Becool Mar 10th, 2002, 09:36 PM BRAZIIIL!!!!! :p ;) heheheheheh :wavey: venusrocks Mar 10th, 2002, 09:51 PM USA! Lisbeth Mar 10th, 2002, 09:59 PM Right now, if you looked at it as "top 10 players per head of population", you would have to say Belgium, without a doubt. Possibly France second, or maybe USA. Of course, if you are just looking at sheer numbers then it's clearly the USA, but with so many people, resources and tournaments over there so it should be. (Please note that I'm not trying to take away from American success, which I have great respect for - I'm just stating a fact.) Jordan. USA! :) Jay Mar 10th, 2002, 11:43 PM Hmm not too sure if the best players COME from USA but they certainly all seem to LIVE or have houses in Florida USA Jelena Dokic , Martina Hingis, Anna Kournikova, Lindsay Davenport, Venus and Serena Williams, Andy Roddick, Taylor Dent, Mary Pierce, Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati for starters. I'm sure there's loads more, can anyone else name a player that lives or has a house in Florida ?? Josh Mar 10th, 2002, 11:46 PM Maria Sharapova lives in Florida too I think, but Lindsay lives in California. Mattographer Mar 10th, 2002, 11:57 PM Australia!! 1. Nicole Pratt :) 2. Alicia Molik :) 3. Evie Dominikovic :) 4. Rachel McQuillan  5. Cindy Watson :) 6. Bryanne Stewart :) Cam'ron Giles Mar 11th, 2002, 12:47 AM Jamaica  Just kidding. The US without a doubt :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Barrie_Dude Mar 11th, 2002, 12:55 AM Actually, it does go through cycles. But it seems that the USA and Australia have the best programs in place for developing young talent. Here in Canada, our junior tennis program is practically non existent! ares Mar 11th, 2002, 12:55 AM YUGOSLAVIA!!!! YUGOSLAVIA!!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: selesfan Mar 11th, 2002, 01:00 AM USA! And Seles is now American, just ask her! Williams Rulez Mar 11th, 2002, 01:00 AM From Venus.... duh :D Master Lu Mar 11th, 2002, 01:10 AM I'm not going to argue that the USA has the most top players, because it actually has. But, I'm just going to put a nice little info down. USA has 250 million people, and a lot of money (good for you, or rather us since I'm in the States now;)); China and India each have more then a billion people, but have practically no money at all. Croatia on the other hand (heh guess where I'm from:) ) has 4.5 million people (half the New York), and very little money. We still have Goran, Iva, Silvija, Mirjana, Ivan... If you look at some other sports, you'll see the same tendency. rhz Mar 11th, 2002, 02:13 AM INDONESIA :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: LucasArg Mar 11th, 2002, 02:20 AM ARGENTINA Gisela Dulko Maria Emilia Salerni Clarisa Fernandez The new girls:wavey: Lolita Mar 11th, 2002, 03:05 AM RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA cause they have the most famous and beautifull playerrrrs !!!!! ys Mar 11th, 2002, 03:14 AM Best juniors come from Russia, best pros used to come from USA. But can you name a US teenager who looks a Top 10 prospect? Not at the moment. Seles, Davenport and Capriati will probably be a force for another couple of years. And after that? I don't know.. Scotso Mar 11th, 2002, 04:22 AM doesn't matter ;) the tour wouldn't be the same without any of them. venusrocks Mar 11th, 2002, 04:23 AM Originally posted by Lolita RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA-RUSIA cause they have the most famous and beautifull playerrrrs !!!!! i guess "talent" is not in their repertoire... MaRKy MaRk Mar 11th, 2002, 08:07 AM The best come from USA. Most of the top 100 are Americans. I wish Australia made more good players. Benny Mar 11th, 2002, 08:52 AM ITALY Look at the improvement in top 100 players. They have about 8 and in the mens about 5. About 3-4 year ago they had about 2. Tennis is growing heeps in Italy, they just need to get it down South! Nimi Mar 11th, 2002, 10:34 AM ISRAEL! SMASHNOVA, & ME!!!!!!!!!!:wavey: Lolita u miss spelled Dementieva louisa2k2 Mar 11th, 2002, 10:42 AM its just pointless naming the country were ur fave player comes from its obv that the US has the most good players on the tour at the min. Though i do agree their are a lot of russians and most of them are teenagers so thayve still got time to move up the rankings. Sam L Mar 11th, 2002, 10:46 AM The former Czechoslovakia has produced the best tennis players. It's just that most of them have defected and represented other countries. Martina Navratilova Martina Hingis Jana Novotna Hana Mandlikova Helena Sukova Daja Bedanova Daniela Hantuchova Come-on-kim Mar 11th, 2002, 04:12 PM BELGIUM!!! 2 great players for 10.000.000 inhabitants!!!! Fingon Mar 11th, 2002, 04:24 PM well, by my concept of what a good player is, they certainly don't come from USA. The hardest hitters come from USA and that, with majority of hardcourts in the tour, make them win more than others. However, for me it's more important where the most technically capable players come from. Belgium is impressive with Kim and Justine which such a tiny population, however, it's to be seen if they are two off or there will be a future for Belgian tennis after Kim and Justine. I would have to say, the countries that have produced the most talented players are Czech Republic/Slovakia: Martina Navratilova, Jana Novotna, Helena Sukova, Martina Hingis, Hanna Mandlikova. Maybe they didn't produce the most winners, but certainly is the country that produced the best visual pleasure. Messenger Mar 13th, 2002, 08:29 AM As of now, if you did any sort of calculation with rankings vs. population you would find that Luxembourg would be the number 1 country (even better ratio than Belgium). | |
