View Full Version : Bittersweet question about your faves

Surely this has been asked before, but since I don't remember seeing it...

What are the head-to-head records between your (say top 5) favourite players? And when two of them meet, do you always have a clear favourite, is she changing according to the moment,...?

Mine have not met so often:

Dechy-Kostanic 0-0

Dechy-Kuti Kis 0-0

Dechy-Talaja 2-2
Budapest 1999 - clay - R32 - Nathalie 6-3 6-4
Strasbourg 2000 - clay - SF - Silvija 6-1 1-6 6-3
Canadian Open 2000 - hard - R32 - Silvija 7-5 6-4
Paris 2001 - carpet - R32 - Nathalie 6-2 6-2

Dechy-Tanasugarn 0-0

Kostanic-Kuti Kis 0-1
Estoril 2000 - clay - R16 - Rita 4-6 6-3 6-3

Kostanic-Talaja 2-0
Makarska 1998 - clay - R32 - Jelena 6-4 6-0
Bol 2001 - clay - R32 - Jelena 6-4 ret.

Kostanic-Tanasugarn 0-0

Kuti Kis-Talaja 0-1
Strasbourg 2000 - clay - F - Silvija 7-5 4-6 6-3

Well my five top players are Kim, Venus, Serena, Justine and Martina... in that order. I'm not sure about head to heads but when Kim plays anybody I want her to win, when Venus plays anybody but Kim I want her to win, when Serena plays anybody but Venus and Kim I want her to win and so on....

Mar 10th, 2002, 03:47 PM
Kim-Justine 4-1
Kim-Martina 1-4
Kim-Serena 0-4
Kim-Venus 0-1 :o
Justine-Martina 0-2
Justine-Serena 0-2
Justine-Venus 1-4
Martina-Serena 6-6
Martina-Venus 10-8
Serena-Venus 1-5

Wow, I didn't realise that Martina playes the Williams sisters that often!

I don't even wanna know about Martina's record against Amanda and the Dutch players!;) I don't want any of my favs to lose a match....

It all depends on the situation really.

At the 1998 French Open I cheered for Monica because of her father's death.

At the Chase in 2000, I was cheering for both...for Monica a last title before the tournament left for Germany and for Hingis, a big title in a SLam-less season.

At the Aussie Open in 1999, I was behind Monica because I wanted her to remain unbeaten...ditto for 1998,1999 Canadian Open.

At this years' AUssie Open I was cheering for both because, Monica could have won her 1st slam in 6 years(and we all know she would have defeated Jen) and for Hingis to end her 3 year drought at the majors.

Cheered for Hingis at '98 US Open because #1 ranking was on the line.

Basically, I just always hope that they have a nice, long 3 setter. Lots of winners and no errors. Each woman should have her moment of victory if not the ultimate victory.

I hate it when my top 3 have to play each other.
I find it impossible to root against either of them. But.. if Serena or Monica plays against Venus (in my heart I gotta go with Vee) but I always just sit and watch and keep my fingers crossed and hope nobody gets beat too bad, lol. Luckily Venus has only lost once to Monica and Serena, and that's not so bad. But I would prefer it if they didn't have to play each other at all except in finals.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Venus and Kim only played once and that was at the US Opne 2001 and venus won.

It use to be horrible for me before , but I can now control myself ... Venus, Serena , Monica , Lindsay and Jelena Dokic are my favourites , but I root for Venus regardless of whom she is playing... When Serena and or Jelena are playing against Monica or Lindsay , I root for them with the excuse that they're younger , and that Linds and Monica have won alot already... (thank God I am not a parent ) :p

Mine favourites are in this order: Venus, Serena, Lindsay, Monica and Jelena/Kim

Venus-Serena: 5-1
Venus-Lindsay: 9-10
Venus-Monica: 7-1
Venus-Kim: 1-0

Serena-Lindsay: 7-2
Serena-Monica: 4-1
Serena-Kim: 4-0

Lindsay-Kim: 5-1
Lindsay-Monica: 9-2

I must say I am pretty happy with the way these head to head records are going. I must say I usually cheer for all of them, and usually I want the player ranked ahead in my favourites list to win.

Have Denisa Chladkova and Jelena Kostanic ever played each other?:wavey:

Mar 11th, 2002, 08:12 PM
My top 5 is :

Mary:angel: , Martina, Lindsay, Monica, Jennifer

There is no big deal if Martina, Lindsay, Monica and Jennifer are playing against each other.

When Mary is playing, I don't care who is the player in front of her but I root for Mary and Only Mary

Mar 12th, 2002, 12:15 AM
I'd root for Testud over Amanda right now as she could possibly get back into top ten with a few decent results. If Amanda falls out of top 20, would then cheer for her.

Usually want Kim over other faves to win unless its Sandrine or Amanda.

Now want Rita Grande to win some more as I now think she's as cool as cool can be. I'll let her have 1 win over each fav lol.

Mar 12th, 2002, 12:32 AM
Arantxa every time no question.

hey Bea - what about when Pam plays Virginia Wade? Who do we cheer for then?????

Mar 12th, 2002, 12:42 AM
I just sit and laugh histerically (like we did last year ;)) 6-0 6-0... you think they managed to take any games to DEUCE? ;) :D

Mar 12th, 2002, 12:48 AM
DOOSE, surely??? ;) Yes, that was possibly the most hilarious moment of my life, particularly the bit when Pam served under-arm ;) hehehee

Mar 12th, 2002, 02:00 AM
(1)Mary Pierce vs (2)Nathalie Dechy 3:0 :o
Mary Pierce vs (3)Sandrine Testud 5:1
Mary Pierce vs (4)Virginie Razzano 1:0
Mary Pierce vs (5)Justine Henin 0:0

Nathalie Dechy vs Sandrine Testud 2:1
Nathalie Dechy vs Virginie Razzano 0:0
Nathalie Dechy vs Justine Henin 0:3 :o

Sandrine Testud vs Virginie Razzano 0:0
Sandrine Testud vs Justine Henin 2:3

Virginie Razzano vs Justine Henin 0:2 :o

They're pretty well ranked in terms of wins on my favorites list... the major exception being Justine Henin who doesn't have a losing record to any of my other favorites I don't believe.

Mar 12th, 2002, 02:04 AM
When any of my top 6 or 7 faves play I'm pretty much in tears. Usually when it's Mary I can stay consistantly for her the entire match... sometimes it's harder when she's crushing another fave but she is the tops. The only player I think I could ever cheer for against Mary is Nathalie... maybe maybe maybe Sandrine. It would have to be an extreme situation though.

If Mary and Nathalie/Sandrine face in the finals of the French Open I would probably cheer for Nathalie or Sandrine - only because Mary has a title already. It would be hard though. I know I'd cry all day  hehe.

Mar 12th, 2002, 09:24 PM

Mary Pierce VS Virginie Razzono is 2/0
RG 6/4 6/0
Tokyo 7/6 7/6
