If a player withdraws from the tournament at any time, or retires during her match the pick is not counted, and you are given a "replacement pick" which you may use at ANY TIME during the tournament in addition to your other picks.
--This tournament is being played as part of the WTA World Olympics 2004 (:yeah: to andrew_uk on all the work he has done). There is a commitment thread in that forum, or you can just start playing here like normal. All picks will be made in this thread. Have fun! :D
Several players decide to predict the Myskina vs Petrova Quarter-Final Match
ACTUAL MATCH RESULT: Myskina def Petrova 6-7, 6-1, 6-1
Let’s say the following are predictions from a range of players:
1. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-7, 6-1, 6-1
Dead accurate and correct score, 35 points.
2. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-7, 6-1
You predicted the number of sets correctly and you got all three set scorelines correct, just in reverse the actual, this still gets you 25 points.
3. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 3-6, 6-2
You predicted the number of sets correctly, and you predicted one of the set scorelines correct (6-1) and it was correct because Myskina won that set 6-1 like she actually did.
A prediction like this will reward you 20 points. (note if you predicted two of the sets correct but not the third on in a three match you will be given a bonus 3 points here)
4. Myskina to beat Petrova 7-6, 3-6, 6-4
You predicted the number of sets correctly, and although 7-6 was in the actual scoreline, in the real match Petrova won the set 7-6 not Myskina, as you have predicted.
So any situations like this when you have predicted the correct winner and correct number of sets but no correct actual scorelines, you still gain 15 points.
5. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-2
You predicted the correct winner but not the correct number of sets but you did correctly predict at least one scoreline that was correct (6-1 in Myskina’s favour), so you get 12 points.
(note if you picked Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-1, you still got at least one set correct, so that’s worth 12 too).
6. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-3, 7-6
You predicted the correct winner, but neither of the scorelines were correct (note that 7-6 was in the real scoreline but in Petrova’s favour not Myskina’s as you have predicted). A prediction like this will reward you with 10 points.
7. Petrova to beat Myskina 7-5, 1-6, 7-6
0 points for any incorrect “match” winner prediction.

The first round of the Olympics marked the triumphant return of SpikeyAidanm who is right in the medal hunt early. However, the biggest story of this first round of play is Lady, who made 2 fewer picks than were allowed and STILL managed to be in the lead after the first round with an Average Pick of an amazing 20! Last week's champion HectorMagnus, who savagely overtook alwayshingis in the end, had a dismal first round with 4 incorrect picks, and it seems that unless a miracle happens, he has taken himself right out of medal contention.
8 Picks are permitted in round 2.
Have fun everyone! :D

I made 2 picks less
That was my lucky day, it seems :tape: I thought there was written 10 picks
I apologise if you got confused because MTF Predict-the-SCORE only allowed 10 picks. :(
SpikeyAidanm picks up exactly where he left off when he left this tournament, right at the top, as he posted one of the great scores of this tournament, averaging over 19 in Round 2. Lady fell off the pace slightly and fell to second and alwayshingis was very consistent and has a very slight hold on 3rd over *Yoav*, Mr_Molik, jrm, and silverwhite. There are still easily 9 people in medal contention in this event, and the 5 third round picks will be crucial for anyone who wants to medal, and one misfire could drop you out of the medals. It will be interesting to see how people handle the impressive Mary Pierce going against the on-fire Venus Williams. And what about Eleni Daniilidou, a huge comback win going aginst Myskina who struggled against Brandi. The later rounds force people to deal with these difficult matches, and anyone could take medals here.
Good Luck all! :D :bounce:

ROUND 3
01: HENNIN-HARDENNE def. PRAT 6-4 6-3
02: MYSKINA def. DANILIIDOU 6-4 6-3
03: MAURESMO def. RUBIN 6-2 6-4
04: MOLIK def. RAYMOND 6-3 7-6
05: WILLIAMS def. PIERCE 6-2 6-2
The rankings remained essentially the same after the third round, but SpikeyAidanm of Australia is beginning to develop a near insurmountable lead over his competitors, and the very compellng fight for bronze between alwayshingis and *Yoav* continues to be separated by just 1 point. It's getting into dangerous time now, where you must pick 3 of 4, and if you still have a replacement left, you need to pick all 4 matches. How will competitors deal with Mary Pierce following her upset of Venus Williams? Is Myskina playing well enough to get past Schiavone? Will Alicia Molik's cinderella run continue against the feisty Japanese woman Sugiyama? And will Mauresmo continue her run through the field over arguably the strongest Russian in the field right now Kuznetsova? Only time will tell.

QF:
1. Henin-Hardenne d. Pierce 6-3 7-5
2. Myskina d. Schiavone 6-4 6-4
3. Molik d. Sugiyama 6-3 7-5
4. Mauresmo d. Kuznetsova 6-3 7-5
With just 3 total picks left, there appear to be 5 people still in the medal hunt: A Latvian, an Israeli, a Brit, and two Australians. And with a wonderful performance in the Quarterfinals, Lady has moved into first place just 3 points ahead of SpikeyAidanm. These two look to have a compelling battle to the gold, and the other three look to be fighting for bronze. Will people pick Henin-Hardenne to come through after a nice win over Pierce, or will they be encouraged by Myskina's resurgence in a routing of Schiavone? Will they pick Molik to continue her improbable run straight to the gold medal match, or will they pick Mauresmo to come through after a three-setter against Kuznetsova?
NOTE: If you haven't noticed, there is listed ONE pick for the final. This means you may pick in EITHER the Bronze Medal Match or the Gold Medal Match. It should make things VERY interesting coming down to the line.

Lady converted yet another perfect pick here in the semifinals to begin to run away from SpikeyAidanm in the hnt for gold. However, 13 points in a value that can be made up in one match, it is just very difficult. With a 25 point lead, alwayshingis would have to seriously falter, and *yoav* and Mr_Molik would need near perfection to change things in Bronze. Will Justine's fatigue after the Myskina match catch up to her against Mauresmo? Will Myskina be able to overcome the same problem going for the bronze against Molik? Only time will tell...

Haha, because most people have only played one tournament, and the Olympics had a lot of points for a small field. It doesn't get tough to move up until the top 10. A few more tournaments and you could be near there. :D
