This to celebrate that the very promising Danish talent Caroline Wozniacki won her first Danish senior championship today, the youngest ever player to do so.

Go Caroline and congratulations on your first title!

This picture is an older one, but it was the best I had as no pictures from the Danish Championships have appeared yet.

Great news!
According to the US Open website Caro will play Lindsay Burdette, USA in round one.

In the girl's doubles Caro will partner Tamira Paszek of Austria to take on Mircic/ Molinero SCG/ARG.

Anyone know where to find the results of the qualifying rounds?

Ravsieg

She lost to Burdette in 3 sets. I was following the match interestingly on the live scoreboard.

Caroline is still very young, she did great for her age and she'll be getting better for sure!! GO CAROLINE! :D

HTE

Yeah Caro lost both her first round matches, especially against Burdette it was a great shame since she was in control of the first set and might as well have won it, but as you say she is very young and inexperienced at that level so surely we'll see her get a lot further soon.

Here are four nice shots of Caroline at the Open:

Yeah I really hope so too :), they're the only 2 promising youngsters I'm looking forward to see on top, and I like them both a lot! :worship:

Maria holds a 3 year advantage over Caroline, that means she'll probably have her breakthrough earlier. But judging from what both of them have done until now, I'd say both of them have many chances to be on top somewhen! :bounce:

This week Caroline is competing at the G1 Kentucky International junior event.
In the first round she defeated Jennifer Lee Heinser of the USA 6-1 6-2,
a, at least on paper much tougher opponent awaits in the second round where Caro faces 2nd seed Olga Govortsova of Belarus.

In the doubles competion Caroline is playing along side Aleksandra Wozniack of Canada :D and so far the 5th seeded pairing are doing well.

After a bye in the first round they won their second round match against Tania Rice/Ekaterina Shulaeva of Canada 6-1, 6-4. They will now face Buzarnescu/Erakovic seeded four.

Hopefully she will have more luck in the doubles...

But still if Govortsova is a #2 seed that means she's a high favorite for the tournament so Caroline had bad luck... :( Better days will come!

Good luck for doubles Caroline and Aleksandra!

Caroline i splaying the Osaka Mayor's Cup in Japan this week, she is seeded nine and has had a fine start to the tournament. In the first round she faced Misa Kinoshita (JPN) and won convincingly 6-2, 6-3.

Second round went equally smooth, Maya Kato was beaten 6-3, 6-2, a somewhat tougher opponent lies ahead in fith seeded Ayumi Morita

In the doubles Caro partnered Katerina Kramperova (CZE) and the third seeded pair won their first match against Barry/Lee of New Zealand 6-2, 2-6, 6-1
In the second round they met Kawamura/Kinoshita and very surprisingly they Japanese duo won that match 7-6(4), 1-6, 7-6(3) :( At least Caroline can concentrate on her singles now

Caroline is through to the quarterfinals after beating fith seed Ayumi Morita 6-4, 4-6, 6-1! A really great victory and Caro should have a good chance to progress even further since her opponent in the quarters will be Yi Chen of Taipei. Chen did beat Julia Cohen in the first round but is ranked more than 200 places below Caroline.

Go Caro!

Caroline beat Chen Yi of Taipei 2-6 6-3 6-3 in today's quarterfinals and will play Hsu Wen-Hsin for a place in the final. Hsu is a very classy player but so is Caro and with her current form I think she has a decent chance of winning that one too. :armed:

Caro has reached the final in Osaka after eliminating third seed Hsu Wen Hsin in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Her opponent tomorrow will be Dominka Cibulkova (SVK/4) ranked 32 and thus the favorite for the title. Luckily Caroline has already proved that she can beat almost anybody right now and I truly believe that she will win the final.

She took a set off Krajicek! Not even many Top100 players could do it this year, such as Cervanova and Kleinova. I consider that final to be an excellent result, and it just shows she could be fighting for the top of Juniors next year (if not, then in 2 years time) and she should have her pro debut early next year...

The award is given to a Danish athlete that has burst onto the scene this year, delivered impressive results and holds great promise for the future.

Caroline made a decent performance as the ninth seed at the Australian Hardcourt Championships.
She beat Karolina Wlodarczak (6-1, 6-1) and Ellen Barry (4-6, 7-5, 6-1) before losing a close encounter to Dominika Cibulkova(8) 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(4).

In the doubles things didn't work out to well. Caroline entered with Nicole Thyssen and after a close victory over Engels/Smith (6-3;2-6;6-4) they got double bageled by Azarenko/Kleybanova 6-0;6-0

Caroline has just taken Nicole Thyssen apart 6-2, 6-2. Supreme start to the championships. :bounce: :bounce:

Caro delivered a quite impressive performance in taking out Nicole Thyssen in the first round. Thyssen was never in front in the match, Caro broke her serve at 0-0 i both sets and on four more occasions, she only got broken twice herself. She hit 16 winners and made 17 unforced errors, most of them in the middle of the second set, she should cut that down in the next round if she can.
Her dominance in this game is well underline in the fact that she scored 58 points during the match to Thyssen's 36.

Now best of luck against Szatmari :wavey:

Hard fougt victory for Caro, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. Completely in control until 5-1 in the second then lost 6 games in a row before regaining her composure, perhaps she had some kind of physical problem? more about the match tomorrow :)

The 3rd Round is going to be much harder...

Very, very weird, the only explanation I can think of is nerves, she suddenly realised how well she was doing and completely choked, same thing was about to happen in the third but luckily she held firm. And yeah Aleksandra is going to very tough to beat, we can only hope :D

Btw. I got a reply from the Danish Tennis Federation today and Caroline might make her senior debut in week 7 in a $25.000 tournament in Stockholm, if she is able to obtain a wildcard.

She has no margin for choking against Aleksandra, we'll see :D I'm hopeful.

Caroline is out of the doubles tournament after she and Aleksandra Wozniak lost a close match to Danielle Dominikovic and Olivia Lukaszewicz (5)6-7, 4-6

I really don't know what to think about her singles match against Aleks, I want her to win of course, but it's going to be super tough and I don't want to get my hopes up

Anyway the match is the second on court 7 (the first one starts at 11AM, Melbourne time)

HTE

No more Melbourne matches for Caroline this year in a match that Caroline should have won she ended up losing 6-1, 6-7, 1-6 to Aleksandra Wozniak. Caro rushed through the first set making very few errors and seemed to continue the excellent play in the second. She went 3-1 ahead, had chances for 4-1 but missed, Wozniak then took the iniative but Caroline held up and forced a tiebreaker. Here she went up 5-3 and really should have closed it out but once again choked a bit. Third set was Wozniak all the way, Caro fought bravely but there was nothing to do.

She should really have made the quarterfinal but a really good tournament after all, lot's of invaluable experience gained and hopefully confidence that her game can take her very far.

Ravsieg

Yep... Aleksandra only won because she's more experienced and held her mind on place on the critical points, Caroline was dominating but choked. That can only predict good things for the next slams, she might have learnt something with this. :)

Time for an update I think :) Not much is happenening results wise for Caro right now, for the next couple of weeks she is training at the Elite Center (as far as I know).

-----------------
At the beginning of this month Caroline played the finals in the Danish Team Championships with her club Lyngby, and was a great factor in securing a silvermedal for her team.

Selected results:
Semfinal - HRT vs Lyngby: 0-6
1st Ladies' single: Eva Dyrberg vs Caroline Wozniacki: 7-6(7), 6-7(5), 0-6
2nd Ladies' single: Stephanie Bigom - Nadia Laas Hansen: 3-6, 0-6
Lyngby also won all four men's singles so neither of the doubles were played.

Final - KB vs Lyngby: 5-3
1st Ladies' single: Karina I. Jacobsgaard vs Caroline Wozniacki: 1-6, 3-6
2nd Ladies' single: Maria Rasmussen - Nadia Laas Hansen: 6-0, 6-0
The men's singles were split at two each.
Ladies' Doubles: Jacobsgaard/Rasmussen - Wozniacki/louise Lillesø: 6-2, 6-4.

Some amazing victories for Caro, confirming that she is our strongest player; first beating Eva who was a regular top-100 player before concentrating on her studies, then taking apart Jacobsgaard, Denmark's highest ranked WTA-player atm :bounce: :worship:

--------------

Finally I decided that I needed a new wp for my desktop and as I had some nice Caro pictures lying around this was the result. Its 1600x1200 so if you wanna use it you can resize it to whatever screen you use.

Caro kicked off her challenge for the Danish Indoor Championships with a convincing victory in the tournaments second round. She was kind enough though to give Stephanie Bigom on game.

Another really intersting result from the DC is that 12yo Karen Barbat has really had an impressive start with two great victories. Karen is the next in the line of amazingly talented girls that aims for the top of the international tennis world.

Caroline Wozniacki, Lyngby (1) - Stephanie Bigom, HRT: 6-1 6-0
Karen Barbat, Lyngby (WC) - Hanne Skak Jensen, KB (6): 6-2 1-6 7-6(2)
Sandra Tworek, Birkerød - Anne Munch Larsen, B.93 (2): 6-4 5-4 rtd.
Rikke Faurfelt, KB (5) - Line Elvstrøm Ekner, KB: w.o.
Maria Rasmussen, KB (3) - Line Thøfner, Birkerød: 6-1 6-1
Julie Vodder, B.93 (7) - Anne-Sofie Melskens, HRT: 6-3 6-3
Gluay Kampookaew, ATK - Sfreja Ivona-Ioana, HIK (4): 6-4 6-2
Marie-Louise Frølich-Hansen, HRT - Line Lauridsen, Gentofte (8): 5-7 6-4 7-5

------------------Senior debut update-------------------

On Danish TV tonight Caroline confirmed that she will probably soon make her WTA tour debut.

She has a confirmed wildcard for the Nordea Nordic Light Open in August and two very likely WCs for the J & S Cup in April and the Idea Prokom Open, both in her parents native country of Poland. Whether it's main draw or Quali wildcards I don't know yet.

The plan still is that she shall continue to play selected ITF junior tournaments, mixed with a few WTA-tour appearances.

Semifainals at the Danish Championships:
Caroline Wozniacki(1), Lyngby def. Maria Rasmussen(3), KB 6-1, 6-1
Gluay Kampookaew, ATK def. Marie Louise Frølich Hansen, HRT 6-3, 6-3

Great result by Gluay to reach the final. After a really tough QF yesterday where she scraped through against 12-year-old sensation Karen Barbat: 3-6 6-3 7-6(2), she had a somewhat easier match today.

Caro once again had no problems what so ever and Gluay will have to play far beyond her abilities to get anything more than a decent result in the final.

HTE
Mar 19th, 2005, 10:09 AM
Lol I don't agree at all. I think it's really important for any national championships that the best players participate. After all if the fans doesn't support the players, neither will the sponsors. And in the end that will lead to lower fundings for the players.

Caroline hasn't had any competition this year, that's the sad truth, but it could have been otherwise if Eva Dyrberg had chosen to play and if Karina Jacobsgaard had not decided to play some minor 10K tournament in Egypt in stead.

Wozniacki Prospers in Japan
Despite Asian boys and girls dominating the singles draws, it was two Europeans in the form of Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki and Andreas Haider-Maurer from Austria who were victorious at last week’s Grade 1 Japan Open Junior Championships in Nagoya.

It is probably no surprise that second seed Wozniacki, Denmark’s highest ranked Junior, triumphed at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre as she has been progressing steadily since losing in the round of 32 at this tournament a year ago. Despite this memory, Japan became a happy hunting ground for the Dane when she lifted the Osaka Mayor’s Cup in October and since then she has consistently reached the latter stages of tough events including the final of a Grade 1 in Luxembourg and the semifinals at the Grade A Casablanca Junior Cup, Mexico.

Having come through the draw without dropping a set, Wozniacki’s final opponent was a fitting and familiar face. Home favourite Ayumi Morita (JPN), who had only played one ITF Junior match since reaching the last 16 of the Australian Open in January, was responsible for the second seed’s early exit at this event last year. However, since then Wozniacki has met and beaten the 15-year-old from Gunma on two occasions both in three sets. This match followed a similar pattern as, after a convincing start, Wozniacki complacently relaxed. Playing on home soil Morita needed no other invitation and punished this lapse with a whitewash in the second set. This took the game to a final and decisive third set and it was proof of Wozniacki’s development as a player that she came back and maintained her focus to close out the match and take the title 62 06 64. This result has elevated the 14-year-old Dane to eighth in the ITF Combined Junior rankings.

It now seems that Caro won't be getting wildcards for the J&S Cup or the Prokom.
The Polish organiser wants Caroline to play under a Polish citizenship for her to be sure of a wildcard. Caroline and her Father have of course rejected the foolish demands. Caroline is born and raised in Denmark, she is Danish and only wants to play for Denmark.
Yay Caroline :yeah:
Hope those Polish organiser get their sense back soon :(

Thx mate, some really great photos there :yeah:

Caroline has played and lost two Fed Cup matches the last few days. In the first enconter she came very close to beating Anna Jovanovic of Serbia, she really should have won but made to many errors at 5-5 in the second and in the end lost 6-4 6-7(5) 4-6. Denmark lost the match 0-3

Yesterday Denmark faced the GB and Caro once again pushed an experienced WTA player all the way as she lost 3-6 6-4 2-6 to Anne Keothavong. Denmark lost 1-2 but really fought well again.

HTE

Denmark stays in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I :yeah:
Greece was the opponent but without Daniilidou they proved to be a manageable task.
Caro started out by losing the first set to Koumantou but then found her game and cruised through.
After a great fight Karina Jacobsgaard lost to Greece's leading single Gerasimou, and the doubles would decide Denmarks fate in the group.
Team captain Morten Christensen chose to partner Caroline with our best doubles player Hanne Skak Jensen and the proved to be a wise decision as the Danish junior girls won 7-6(5), 6-4.

Yesterday the final match of the round-robin was played and Denmark managed to defeat Slovenia's reserves. Caroline and the double with Skak Jensen & Gluay Kampookaew won.

-------------
A summary of Caroliine's Fed Cup debut:
DEN-SER: 0-3 - lost to Ana Jovanovic: 6-4 6-7(5) 4-6
DEN-GB: 0-3 - lost to Anne Keothavong: 3-6 6-4 2-6
DEN-SLO: 2-1 - defeated Tina Krizan: 6-4 6-0

DEN-GRE: 2-1 - defeated Anna Koumantou (GRE) 4-6 6-1 6-3 and
w. Skak Jensen defeated Asmina Kaplani/Anna Koumantou (GRE) 76(5) 64

Really convincing debut against WTA players even though she lost the first two matches.

What does she play like exactly?

I have only seen her play live once, a few years back so not the most thorough description I'm afraid.
Caro plays with a lot of power, mostly from the back of the court. She has a really great technique, moves well and seems to be good at placing herself on the court.
She needs to improve her serve a bit, and of course gain the extra experience that will allow herself to deal better with situations like closing matches.

She is extremely determined, and is willing to focus 100% on making it to the top, combine that with her talent and I'm sure shes going to get there :)

Well Duiz, she's a baseliner so I'm sure she goes for a winner. I wonder how she plays when she's nervous. Some guide the ball in the court (Mauresmo, ect.) and some hit through their nerves (Sharapova, ect). Sometimes it's better to hit through your nerves. Maybe when Caro closes out a match she tends to just guide the ball in the court and her opponents take advantage of that and thats how she loses leads of several games.

Bright future for sure if she keeps up the good work. She probably has the brightest future of the current juniors along with Azarenka. She's a top 10 junior at the age of 14. It's awesome! :rocker: Future WTA Star..

Yeah I think she's pretty famous and also respected, unlike the male tennis players who are often ridiculed when they don't perform up to expectations.

Caro talks about what it means to her that she plays Fed Cup and is going to have her WTA debut soon. She says that it's really important for her to be able to measure herself against the seniors and that she feels her level is good enough to compete with them :)

I still remember Fed Cup Times... it is amazing that such a young character is already playing for her country...

Anyways.... HTE.. is she good at grass?

I should think that grass would suit her style of play perfectly, but obviously it's not a surface she plays a lot on.

In last year's Wimbledon she lost 6-1, 2-6, 8-10 to Bobusic in a first round match she really should have won. Back then she entered as a lucky loser and had very little experience. This year she warms up at Roehampton and should get enough matches there to get confident with the green stuff.

I agree. Grass should make her power and fast pace even more effective.

This upcoming tournament finally is here and starts Monday! There are many good players in the draw besides Caroline. ;) Wozniak, Cibulkova, Cornet, Olaru, Schoofs, Rakhim, Morita, Kleybanova, ect. But there is no reason why Caro can't beat every single one of them. If I counted right, Caro should be the #4 seed. So semifnals are possible, but why stop there when you can win the whole thing. Good luck Caro! :D
