Seventh-seeded Russian Races Past Hantuchova
In a midday match at the Acura Classic, Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova took advantage of an ailing Daniela Hantuchova to score a 6-1, 6-2, second-round victory on Stadium Court.

Hantuchova of Slovakia was suffering from a gastrointestinal illness and was unable to mount much opposition against Kuznetsova, who won the match in 59 minutes. To her credit, Hantuchova did not retire and finished the match.

Kuznetsova won the first set in only 21 minutes. The Russian did drop her serve to open the second set, but quickly broke back.

At 2-2 in the second set, with Hantuchova feeling the effects of her illness, Kuznetsova won 16 of the last 20 points.

The Slovakian served to stay in the match at 5-2, but the contest ended as she sent a forehand just past the baseline.
