She has yet to beat anyone ranked higher than her since Auckland in January.
Finally an upset:), good job.
She'll enter top 100 with an addition of 60 points.

She beat Asagoe in LA. But yes, a spectacular win. I hope this is a sign of better things to come. When she played Venus in LA she played top 10 tennis for the first 2 games then disappeared. Hopefully she can build on that!

Ashley  :bounce: :yippee:

With this top 100 birth, she'll most likey be on the top of the list for the "Next in" list in a few weeks for the US Open.

And with Clisters most likely not playing, and the big possiblity that someone else would withdraw anyway, she should make the main draw without a wildcard, which means a wildcard will still be available for another American.

Good job, Ashley! She looked to be in good shape in those recent pictures of her in another thread. Wins on hardcourts are an especially good sign, because isn't she a better slow-court player? And a win over the extremely talented (but inconsistent) Patty is impressive. Hopefully she can keep on grinding out matches and get back to the top 50. :D

Amazing job by Ashley, she just wouldn't give up, and kept battling Patty. Great win, I hope this is a turning point for her. I'd love to see Ashley back in the top 50 again! :yeah:

Though this was a match that Patty "should" have won. What's going on with her?

Good question... Patty's had a pretty consistent year by her standards, but her level of play still varies so much from match to match. Better luck next tourney, Patty! I'm sure we'll see at least a few more flashes of brilliance from you yet this season. ;)

i love ashley, but this is only a great win in terms of the ranking she beat. patty is playing like shit again and i am so pissed off about it. she's been beaten by asagoe on clay, gagliardi on grass, and easily by frazier and kostanic on hardcourts.

i'm just sick of getting my expectations raised by great play from patty only for the majority of her year to majorly suck.

i've put up with it for 6 years but i'm starting to lose interest.

happy for ashley anyway

You've managed to put up with Patty's inconsistent play for 6 years, and still have remained a devoted fan during that time? Man, kudos to you, dude, you've got some major willpower there! :worship:

Patty's latest "guru" isn't with her, since he's a jailbird and denied entry to the USA.

It looks like she's gesturing to either the umpire, Patty, or someone else... and it doesn't look to be a very positive gesture either.

The "new" Ashley has looked very impressive, both physically and game-wise. :)

thanks. it was harder in 99 when she really went from winning all the time to losing most of time, then it got funny for a few years because she was just so bad, then in 2002 she started having big results with the same bad losses and it got annoying again. now i'm just kind of sick of waking up every morning to see these kinds of losses

Aw switz, I don't think losing to Frazier on hardcourts in two tight sets is a bad thing with the way Amy's played lately. Kostanic seems to be having quite a solid year as well.

I was VERY disappointed with the Asagoe and Gagliardi losses, though... I know that grass isn't Patty's favorite surface for whatever reason, but she'd had a good performance at Birmingham and I expected her to up her level and at least make the third round at Wimbledon. And the French Open loss... well, even as inconsistent as Patty is, I didn't expect her to go down in the second round on her favorite surface. Not remembering how well she did on the clay at Roland Garros last year. :(

But that's Patty for you. Never know what you're going to get! Sure is fun to watch on the random occassions she puts it all together though. :p

Still I'm glad to see Ashley looking so fit and getting some wins again! :D
