Lena is currently ranked #22 in the world. She won the AO mixed doubles title.
Lena has won at least one match at 14 straight tournaments, going back to the US Open.

Lena is recovering from an abdominal strain.
Before this injury, Lena's left knee was swollen. She had fluid drained from it, and it got infected.
Jul 22nd, 2004, 11:57 PM
During the French Open, Mary Joe Fernandez said that Lena had dismissed her old coach, Larissa Neiland, a few weeks earlier. Now she trains in Barcelona at the same tennis academy Sveta trains at.
Lena's new coach is Pep Plasin. Lena's mom, Margarita, travels with Lena. Lena's dad was a water polo star.
Elena still looks very thin. But she seems to be playing well.:)

yep lena is playing well right now at san diego...hope this is a sign of good things to come...just hope that she would be healthy....always ;) :)
goldenlox - i can't believe elena doesn't have a clothing deal...granted she's not as popular as maria but with her height and looks she would look really good on those nike/adidas outfits...it seemed so unfair
i love that hat!!! the way she wears it is so unique :)
Jul 29th, 2004, 04:26 AM
For the rather pedestrian year Lena's been having, combined with San Diego only being her 11th tournament of the year...
Lena will be in the Top 35 in the race after San Diego.
Jul 29th, 2004, 05:01 AM
No clothing deal. But only a few players make big bucks from endorsements.
Jul 29th, 2004, 11:48 PM
Udachi Lena Bovina :D
Jul 30th, 2004, 01:59 AM
i hope she wins!!!! :bounce:
Jul 30th, 2004, 02:58 AM
didn't she have one with Nike? Maybe she's just renegotiating.
It doesn't make any sense for a top 20 player with her game/looks/prospects not to have a clothing deal

Serena won 6-4, 6-2. Lena played well. But she can do even better.

Lena got revenge on Marrero for Estoril, 6-3, 6-2. Next is Sha-RAP-ova.
Aug 25th, 2004, 02:23 PM
Next for Bovina is Washington. The GL jinx strikes again! Elena has a great opportunity to go a long way in New Haven and she needs to take advantage of the draw opening up for her.
Aug 25th, 2004, 02:37 PM
I hope I jinx Lena right to the championship.
Anne Worcester should have built the tournament around all the quality Russian players. Not just one.
Last year Maria lost her first match in Toronto, and in the second round of the US Open. She's very beatable on this surface.
Aug 25th, 2004, 02:50 PM
Maria should be better on hard courts because she has grown up playing on hard courts at Bollettieri's.
Aug 26th, 2004, 12:58 AM

Elena Bovina of Russia, looks at her New Haven Open trophy after defeating France's Nathalie Dechy to win the New Haven Open Tennis Tournament in New Haven, Connecticut August 27, 2004. Bovina added her name to the list of Russians to watch at next week's U.S. Open when she beat Dechy to win the New Haven Open on Saturday. The world number 27 survived a mid-match wobble against her French opponent before clinching the biggest title of her career 6-2 2-6 7-5
Aug 29th, 2004, 07:53 PM
Excellent picture! :D Maybe IMG will start to market Elena now. She is articulate and attractive so she does have marketing potential.
Aug 29th, 2004, 08:09 PM
Articulate? She may be in Russian, since I know her English isn't perfect.
I guess you know, you haven't seen Lena's interviews, you know, on ESPN, I mean, this week. Nor, her speech during the winner's ceremony. :p
"It was like that Nelly song, you know. It's getting hot in here! Hot in! Hot in!"
Bless the dear for trying... that's why I love her. :)
Aug 29th, 2004, 08:37 PM
Elena B has a nice Russian accent. :) I wish Maria had that nice Russian accent. ;)
Aug 29th, 2004, 08:39 PM
Her think Russian accent is very cute. Lena likes the tennEESE very much. :)
Aug 29th, 2004, 10:35 PM
Udachi Lena
Aug 30th, 2004, 04:06 PM
Is that tennEESE or Tennessee? ;) :p Lena is likable and loaded with game. :D I wonder what Lena could really do on the WTA Tour if she stayed healthy for a couple of years. I think she could at the very least make the top 10 and make a grand slam semifinal, too. :)
