I had to start a new thread because of this result at Stanford -

Lioudmila Skavronskaia (RUS) d. Petra Mandula (HUN), 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Udachi Lioudmila!! Wow!

And one more win would get he a US Open direct acceptance. But that is a match against Davenport.

Can she get that later in the summer? I think that's $10 grand, just for showing up.

Alina lost rather feebly  :(

Liouda is on a Great run, best of her career
16 wins in a row
including qualifiying for a 25k, winning that
then flying across to US, and winning a 50k the next week.

go Liouda ;)
she's a 6ft 2" giant too ;)

I think that the best we can get out of this tournament is Elena L. making semis. She can do i. It will do wonders to her rankigns.

And Lioudmila is 24. She's showing that it's never too late to improve. I hope she can keep this going.
Mandula has a huge game. That's a great win.

Lindsay could be rusty. And Lyuda is on a roll. This could be ... a match.

Lioudmila, log in and tell us how you improved your game. Is it mental? A new coach?
What happened?

I don't know, but she has to be near the top 100 now. Once she gets in there and stays there, it's direct entry to all 4 majors.
Then she can make a living at this sport. I don't mean to count Lioudmila's money, but it's exciting to me for a player to get into the top 100. That's when the real game of pro tennis begins.

if Lioudmila can sneak into the top 100, she'll be the 15th Russian in the top 100!!!

goldenlox

Yeah. If she gets in, Lioudmila is #15. Right now, it's 6 in the top 13. Amazing. And the last 2 majors.

Lioudmila will be (I think) #116 or #117 regardless of the outcome against Lindsay.
If she could find a way to win, I think she'd still be just outside the top 100.
Great chace to make it by the end of the year though

She defended last years points in flying colours. Don't think she'll make the top 120. She's points to defend from last years. She deserves alot of credit for doing it the hard way. :) by playing a Tier 2.

If Lioudmila can play well enough to beat Mandula, then she can get into the top 100.
It's great to see a player her age have a career year. It shows the other players that it's never too late to improve. In fact, everyone should always expect to improve.
That's why you're working so hard.

I hope this motivates Lioudmila to get into the top 100.
So I can see her get direct entry into the majors.

Less than three of our players in quarters of LA should be considered as a bad tournament. We should have four.

Pity that our spetsnaz is not playing this week.

I like to see Lioudmila doing so well. 14 Russians in the top 100 is not enough. We should have at least 20.
I want Nastya to get to #1. I wish she was here. For Maria, I just want her ready for Queens.
