Ok, Ok, she's not russian. But she is Belorussian! That's just as good :p
Saw her at the College Park challenger today and she is a talent. She is 16, and does everything well. No obvious weakness.
She won her qualifying doubles match and I think will play singles tommorow.

She now is representing Russia and is under that nationality for WTA ranks. I saw her at Advanta practicing with Varvara Lepchenko and she really impressed me. She was killing Varvara in their practice points. She looks like she could be top 100 soon. She hits very hard. I think she just needs more expirience and to work on her serve. Her groundies are AWSOME!!!!

THE Gotelee & Goldsmith East of England Lawn Tennis Championships was bathed in sunshine yesterday to greet the latest glamour girl of Russian tennis.
Olga Poutchkova, the No.1 seed here at Felixstowe, was also the number one attraction as she set about trying to emulate her fellow Russian, superstar Maria Sharapova.
She opened up with a tie against Yorkshire-based Anna Smith and in the early games, struggled to live up to her burgeoning reputation. Smith took advantage to break serve at 3-3 but was immediately pegged back as the Russian, ranked 125th in the world, began to find her range from the baseline.
With the top seed 5-4 up, Smith sent an errant forehand long before being punished by a huge Poutchkova backhand winner. Having rarely looked entirely comfortable, Poutchkova did what all good players do, played the big points well and came away with the first set 6-4.
It was a case of deja-vu in the second set as Poutchkova continued to look awkward when drawn to the net, but was able to out-think her British opponent from the baseline. With the set seemingly drifting towards a tie break, a Smith double-fault gifted the Russian a match point which she gratefully took via a fortunate net cord.

"I'm very disappointed with my game today," said Ivanovic, who won Montréal and the US Open Series this summer. "I played a lot of tennis the last couple of weeks, and coming here I didn’t have time to adapt to the conditions.
"My serve, a couple of games it was working and then not so much. I'm disappointed with that. I still had my chances but everything I went for was a mishit or a mistake."
World No.97 Poutchkova was thrilled about her victory. The 18-year-old Russian, who made her Sony Ericsson WTA Tour main draw debut this year, will try to reach her first Tour quarterfinal against Slovenian qualifier Andreja Klepac.
"This was the first time I’ve ever played a Top 20 player," Poutchkova said. "So to have a win is unbelievable. I really played without nerves today, and I'm so happy to be in the second round."

i met olga to rg this year and i like this player! :-)
I liked when she takes pose with her coach for one photo
one of Nick B's ball bashers :wavey:
she could get a bit fitter but she moves pretty decent from what i saw of her at Birmingham.

I have a DVD of Olga's Washington D.C. Challenger final last year against Harkleroad. Ashley won in straight sets as a nervous Olga made alot of errors. She was not ready for that final. But I see raw power and an upside in Olga. She is big and strong and plays hard. I just don't know if she can get it together mentally. That's the key for Olga. And because of her height and size Olga's serve should be better than it is.

doing amazingly well after so many matches this year.
next year, when she'll be into MD directly she'll only play aroung 60 matches all year long, she's practically played that uch in victories alone!

righto - who to cheer on?
olga's advancment seems to be claer - she can now get into wta events most of the time.
iri on the other hand is gunna be WCed to whatever she wants herself + she's got the next few weeks of play to boost herself up the ranks more.
so the question is whom do i prefer for a final matchup for the title.
iri beating well known foe should be intrestin - but i'm rooting on for olga to add another russian title in a row.

Before the semi- "As long as I play my best and get something from each match, I'm satisfied," said Poutchkova, who will play her first Tour semifinal. "I'm happy to be in the semis but I try to focus on my game not just the result."

Congrats to Olga on making her first WTA Tour final. :) Maybe she's starting to come into her own as a tennis player. But it's too bad she had to play a class player and champion like Martina Hingis in the final. :(
