Sorry to hear that. Maybe she was thinking back to last year when she had a great tournament in Moscow, making it to 2nd round and doing well against Sharapova.

I wonder if she has any official web site or fan site(s)?

Top seed given a scare at the qualifiers
Thursday, 10 January, 2008
By Tristan Foenander

Russian Ekaterina Bychkova was given a scare by French teen Youlia Fedossova in round one of the Australian Open qualifiers but prevailed in three close sets 5-7 6-3 6-4.

Bychkova, the top seed for the qualifying event, did not have things her own way as the world No.157 Fedossova took the match right up to her more fancied opponent.

In a very tight opening set, long rallies were frequent and neither player could break down their opponent.

It was Fedossova who gained control when it mattered most, claiming the set 7-5.

The second set saw more powerful hitting, but this time it was Bychkova who seized control and went on to win the set 6-3.

The see-sawing continued in the deciding set as Fedossova broke the Russian’s serve early in the piece.

But soon after she called for the trainer and the momentum swung Bychkova’s way.

The top seed managed to break a tiring Fedossova’s serve twice to hit the front, before continuing on to serve out the match 6-4.

Bychkova cited the heat as a major factor behind her inconsistent performance, but promised to return stronger in her second match.

“At the beginning it (the heat) was ok but then something happened. I was so nervous and upset, but then something amazing happened,” she said.

“I’ll always keep on fighting.”

Bychkova will now meet the winner of the clash between Anda Perianu and Seiko Okamoto

Katya is 1 set all 36 76(5).
This is a really poorly played match. Katya's 2nd serve is so soft.

Mar 7th, 2008, 11:26 PM
Katya lost 63 67 64. Broken at 34 and 45 in the 3rd.

Mar 7th, 2008, 11:37 PM
bad tennis from katya. the backhand was working and that was about it. she was horribly passive and let muhammed take the match whenever she was ready (which she was not at 6-5 or 6-6 in the second or 5-3 in the third).
improvements must be made if katya can't take a weak draw into a 50k championship.

Mar 10th, 2008, 10:03 PM
Katya has a good draw at IW. She plays Kerber and the winner plays Govortsova, the #29 seed.

Mar 13th, 2008, 08:17 PM

Katya has started using Twitter

May 19th, 2009, 06:30 PM
spiceboy posted an article saying that Katya was approached by someone who wanted her to fix a match

The whole article is here: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124225824919117313.html

The parts relating to Katya:Four months ago in a hotel room overlooking the landscaped gardens of the luxurious Dusit Thani hotel in Pattaya City, Thailand, Dmitry Avilov sat deep in thought for several hours, he recalls, nervously composing a message in Russian to Ekaterina Bychkova, a tennis player now ranked No. 169 on the WTA Tour.

Mr. Avilov, 25, who says he makes a modest living betting almost exclusively on women's tennis, had decided, for the first time, he says, to approach a player about fixing a match.

While Ms. Bychkova refused the overture and no money ever changed hands, Mr. Avilov's story highlights a growing concern among some coaches, officials and corruption experts: that lower-ranked tennis players are easy targets, especially with the rise of social-networking sites that make it simpler for strangers to contact them. This winter, Mr. Avilov discovered Ms. Bychkova, another Russian player coached by her mother, kept a diary on Livejournal.com. He thought she might be interested in making some extra money -- in one blog entry she waxed poetic about a Louis Vuitton purse. In February, after registering for the site, he sent her a match-fixing proposal through a private message.
Both Mr. Avilov and Ms. Bychkova say Ms. Bychkova declined the proposal. She says she didn't tell anyone, including tennis officials, because she thought it would "sound really funny" to report someone she'd never met who contacted her through her blog. "I don't want to fix matches and will never do it," says Ms. Bychkova.

The idiots who run tennis fined Katya US $5,000 and suspended her for 30 days because some guy asked her on the internet to fix a match.
She said no, and just thought the guy was some nut.
They want players to report every stupid thing someone says on the internet?

Katya, you can turn this into a positive.
Find out the 1st week you can play again.
Get your schedule set. Be ready to play.
Win back that $5,000 and get back in the top 100, so you have direct entry into the next 3 majors.
Use this as motivation. That's what life is about.
Turning negatives into positives.

Here's what I posted in the GM thread. I hope that my translation is okay

This is from Katya's LiveJournal. Note that it was posted after the guy approached her, but before she was suspended...
Here are the main points:
Katya says that in connection with some recent events (I think that I recall her posting this last year after that newspaper article, although the date on the post is clearly incorrect), she is making this post. She basically says that the blog is her personal diary and that she doesn't want people asking stupid questions or giving her advice on her professional activities. She says that she will ignore such messages in commentaries and private messages and that she will ban people without warning if they continue.

I guess she thought that ignoring the guy would be sufficient

Here is what Sveta had to say about it''For me, when they told me, I was really surprised,'' Kuznetsova said. ''Myself, I had never heard of the rule that you have to report it. I don't know exactly the thing going on with her, and definitely I will ask and go deeper into the subject because I think it's very important. If people come to me and ask something, I say no - I didn't know I had to go [and report the approach]. Maybe she didn't know either, so how can we say she is guilty? I don't understand that. Maybe I am wrong, and maybe there is something I don't know.''

Asked if she'd been approached, Kuznetsova offered a less than emphatic denial. ''Well, you know, if I say yes, they are going to send me home,'' she said. ''I don't know. Approaches can be different. You can think it's a joke but maybe somebody else thinks it can be for real. You might not get if it's an approach or not. Do I have to go and tell WTA every joke I get about approach? You never know. I think we just need a better explanation about that.

''They can approach you, and you don't even know who's there. They can send you a letter, they can write to you on fan mail, they can do Facebook, whatever. You might not pay attention to it but it might be people trying to kick you out of the game. They might do it on purpose. There's going to be so many reasons they can kick you out of the tour, just like that, without you being guilty.''
link (http://www.smh.com.au/sport/tennis/matchfixing-wary-svetlana-keeps-her-silence-20100110-m0sy.html)

Does anyone know of a rule stating that players must report such approaches from people?

Jan 11th, 2010, 10:45 AM
I feel for her. Personally, I believe neither the WTA nor ATP really make an effort to help players to avoid unnecessary punishments. They don't look out for them, and if Sveta has not heard of this, they really did not make a good enough effort to make things clear for the players. I've been thinking for a while that the men and women's tours probably need something like a proper support group, maybe a players' union or something else, that helps players with silly technicalities like this.

Jan 12th, 2010, 05:30 PM
Does anyone know of a rule stating that players must report such approaches from people?
Yes, it's in the Official Rulebook under Code of Conduct, Section H, Sub-section 4.b. Not part of Katya's bedtime reading apparently. I believe the rule was introduced at the start of 2009. And she was approached just a few months later.

Jan 18th, 2010, 03:55 PM
^ thanks for that
McEnroe called match-fixing a ``huge concern'' for tennis, and said Bychkova was suspended after turning down an illegal approach, which might dissuade other players from being honest.
"From what I understand she was approached, said no, and just because she didn't report that -- maybe she was afraid, I think that's a legitimate concern -- and so then she's suspended,'' McEnroe told Australian Associated Press.link (http://msn.foxsports.com/tennis/story/mcenroe-criticizes-match-fixing-fine-011110)

Sesil Karatantcheva d. Katya 7-5 6-4 7-5 :sobbing: :bigcry: :crying2:

Katya saved MP at *5-4 in the 3rd, then blew something like 4 or 5 BP chances in the following game :help:, then was broken while serving to stay in the match

She served 20 double faults :tape::tape::tape:

Feb 12th, 2010, 11:38 AM
Quite a battle.
Sesil had an even worse fine and suspension.
2 players who needed the prizemoney.

That was a good tournament. Keep playing like that and you will be main draw at the next 3 majors

Feb 13th, 2010, 12:05 PM
Dubai Q1
Al-Nabhani[wc] d. Katya[16] 6-3 2-6 7-6(4) :tape:

Back to earth with a thud :sobbing:

Katya's match vs Sesil went for 3hrs 23mins, so Katya was probably really tired. However, she still managed to blow two match points at *5-3

Feb 13th, 2010, 12:34 PM
She probably is too tired to get much further.
But you have to win these close matches.

Feb 14th, 2010, 04:34 AM
Two matches in a row Katya has lost after having match points.

Feb 20th, 2010, 04:15 PM
Katya plays Dementieva, who might be injured. Hold your serve and go after her serve. Her right shoulder was bothering her in Dubai

Feb 21st, 2010, 04:05 AM
Tough draw for Katya :(

Good luck :D

Feb 24th, 2010, 02:36 PM

Lost in 3 sets to Arvidsson in the first qualifying round in Miami. Really bad draw - one of the best players she could run into.

3-6 6-2 6-3 against Rogowska in the first round of Wimbledon qualification. Now meets Namigata who won a 14-12 3rd set marathon against Karolina Pliskova. Hopefully she will be too exhausted from that to put up much resistance against Katya. ;)

Jun 16th, 2010, 04:58 PM
Lost a close three-setter. Too bad.
