Just wonderful...

Bovina would have been the 6th seed too... and would have had a very easy road to the QF.

But, whatever.

I hope Lena is healthy. Knee problems have a way of reoccuring.
In the qualies, Maria Kirilenko def. Melanie South 7-5 6-1.

Bovina can retire for all I care.

Looks as if Masha should win this tournament... at least get to the final.

Maria is the favorite. Molik could be tough. If Nadia plays well, she has a chance to win this title.

Nadya got a tricky draw...

She'll have to play well to beat Asagoe.

Then, Tati or Lena L.

I don't see Masha having any trouble in her section.

Molik is overrated. Lina K. is overrated even more, just because a bunch of stupid clones kiss a certain poster's ass.

A tough road to ho for Miss Petrova.

If Maria K. is put in Maris S.'s section, then things get interesting. The English tabloids will love that one.

Masha would probably stomp Makiri though. :(

Her records show that one or two good tournaments... are followed by an ugly loss.

If Maria K. gets that, far, she's doing very well.

Winning qualifying matches here wouldn't be that spectacular for Makiri.

Any qualifier that plays Maria S. has to win at least 2 main court matches.

Maria is the favorite.

Are you sure? :smoke:

Yes. Her draw is better than Nadia. And she has played well here before. Maria has never played at a tournament where she has had such a level of success a year before.
Maria beat Elena D. here last year.

Alina had chances to win
She had break pts to go 5-4 in 2nd set, missed, had more chances to lead 6-5.
TB was horrible and she never got into it.

Lina started great, but it wasnt pretty.
Shots esp on FH lacked consistency. towards end of 2nd set she was breathing heavily and ran out of gas.
put some info down on her cheering thread :)
talked to her after match.

I hope Mashara has enough energy left to win the Birimingham doubles title to go along with her singles title and pull off the rare singles and doubles titles at the same tournament. :) But I think Little Masha is going to have to a tired carry Big Masha today to the doubles title.
