... of a chance to be really involved into tomorrow's final?

I mean imagine if one of them played against PS or JC? Wouldn't you be more interested in watching it?

No. It's very important that a Russian wins the 2004 French Open championship. And having no one but Russians in the final makes a statement to the tennis world.
And it should light a fire under Nadia, Sveta, Vera, and a few others.

but apart from that, what about your own involvement/interest? don't you feel like you are not going to do nail-biting tomorrow?

It won't be tense, like when Nastya was serving for the match against Venus at 5-4. I felt Nastya had to win it there. Nastya might have won anyway, but I was nervous then.
I won't be nervous tomorrow.
But this is history. It's more of a special event than a rooting thing.
I'll root when Birmingham starts. And in doubles, I'll be rooting.

It's much better that it happened this way. Nastya and Elena have been on the tour for years. And are underappreciated.
They deserve this moment in history.

I'll be really involved in the match... but I'm more a fan of watching good tennis, than just cheering for Russians... so, I may be different.

No, I appreciate not having to be overly nervous tomorrow and be able to just enjoy the show.

But I am thinking about it in terms of one other consequence. We, US Open visitors, are not going to see them up close on small sidecourts an awful lot more after all this.

You can still catch Kuzzee and Bovina court 6.

thats the only downside to this
but they deserve it :)

i remember watching Lena D vs Nadya at Wimbledon 2000 in front of about 50 people on Court 9.

I wouldn't be too sure about that...

Muster was stuck on Court 16 and 17 numerous times in the mid-90s.

I think Iva was on Grandstand for her 1st round match too in 97.

Watching Dementieva on a sidecourt in the second/third round was a tradition for me. I remember that match. Elena was right after freaky rib injury and had no prayer in that match.

I will be very happy for whoever wins. :) But being assured of having a Russina win Russia's first ever grand slam singles title takes a little of the edge off the match for me. But I am so happy Russia will have it's first female grand slam singles champion. :D I will be rooting for Elena to win. But I will be very happy for Anastasia if she wins because in an era of big and powerful female tennis players Anastasia overcame being a slightly built tennis player and a serious wrist injury a couple of years ago to become an elite women's tennis player. :)

Although I want Elena to win, I will still feel sad for Nastya if she loses.
