ozfan have u even seen bojana play? liv hits the ball much better imo..

as for nat i saw her play and lose to liv a few years ago when liv was 13. at that time olivia went on to win that title (grade 4) to make two itf titles in two weeks and was in great form. i thought that at that stage they were very similar in game style and level of play...

since then ive only seen liv play once and that was on tv vs henin and it wouldnt be fair to judge her based on that..im sure she plays much better under 'normal' conditions

SM

oh and i saw olivia training with the fed cup team about two years ago...

she was absolutely smacking all of evies serves :)

ozfan44
Jul 1st, 2004, 12:10 PM
everyone smacks evies serve coz they are shit

and yes i have seen bojana play a fair bit lately and imo she is better than Lukaszewicz, it's just that Olivia has been hand fed by TA while Bojana is having to work for all her rewards.

I Gues the Challengers from Sept-Nov will give us all a better indication on where all the girls are at, hopefully they all play

TS

everyone smacks evies serve coz they are shit

:haha:

Bojana didn't impress me at all this year at quallies, but to be fair she was out of her league and shouldn't have been there in the first place. Overall, she didn't do too badly but I found that she really didn't have much depth to her game. She's still better than a lot of the young girls in this country, so definitely room for improvement.

Olivia is probably focusing on school or junior tournies until she turns 16 in a few months, then can play some more events.

SM
Jul 3rd, 2004, 04:10 AM
err evie was serving huge in the practice sessions...

evie has a very good serve technically, and even her groundies esp forehand can be a bit of a weapon...she just cant overcome mental barriers to play free-flowing in the matches :( gets very tentative...

ozfan44
Jul 3rd, 2004, 04:17 AM
well if bojana and olivia played right now im sure bojana would win

SM
Jul 3rd, 2004, 09:06 AM
i agree with TS i saw bojana at aus quallies..

olivia is 15 and bojana is like 17/18....olivia at 17/18 will be better than bojana currently is..

ozfan44
Jul 4th, 2004, 03:06 AM
bojana is 16 actually

everyone smacks evies serve coz they are shit

evie someimtes serves in the 180's

Gowza
Jul 5th, 2004, 04:23 AM
evie is weird, some matches she'll hit big serves and hit her groundies fairly big and flat and other matches her serve wont be as big, she'll hit loopy groundies without much pace. one thing that is consistent is that her 2nd serve is attackable and unreliable at times.

olivia is talented but needs to work hard.

ozfan44
Jul 5th, 2004, 09:10 AM

  :) :) AWESOME NEWS   :) :)

Olivia has entered in the 25k La Coruna ITF Women's Circuit Event, in La Coruna, Spain, starting on July 23rd.

Lukaszewicz is No.17 on the alternate list for this event.

The following week, Olivia has entered in the 25k Vigo ITF Women's Circuit Event, in Vigo, Spain, for which she is also on the alternate list.

It's great to see Olivia's name around again, hopefully she remains injury free (for a while) and is really enjoying her tennis again.

I thought she'd lose 2nd round of qualies!
Good sign she came from a set down & didn't go & retire after losing that 1st set. Nice fighting, which she's not known for.

She's obviously worked very hard to get back into it. Feels like there have been so many ups and downs in her career and she's still only 18! I believe this is the first time she's ever made the QF's of a $25K? That's remarkable considering it's her first event back :)

Good luck Olivia.

From what I can see, as far as singles goes. She's reached the 2r of a $25k twice, SF of a $10k & 2r AO qualies.

Fantastic results. She should feel so proud of herself. This would not be a fluke as much hard work and training must have gone into proving all the knockers and doubters wrong. May be those two dreadful 0 and 0 Australian Open drubbings have caused an intense desire to return and hard. I think it is a great idea for the players to finish their schooling as well. They will always have something else then to fall back on. Keep it up.

The No.10 seed, ranked around 470.

I like her chances this week!

After all these years of me following tennis i have noticed (especially womens itf level) that when players meet in sucessive weeks the player that wins the first match usually loses the next time! i reckon this would happen 85-90% of the time, prime example was Casey vs Czink over the past 2 weeks!!!

So Hopefully Olivia can get through this!!!

If I had to pick a couple of players to win the title they would be Olivia and Spanish junior Yera Campos Molina. Hopefully they will be drawn at different sections of the draw...There are a lot of Spanish girls but not the best will be coming plus this tournament will be played on hard.

This has been an exciting and well deserved comeback. Looking at the first page of this thread all the posts are concerning players such as Tanevska, Bobusic, Cupac all of whom are long gone so the temptation for Olivia must have been very strong to hang up her racquets and give it up. A good week to get soem serious points here. Keep it going and TA take note. Do not give Olivia a main draw AO wild card yet. She is not ready yet!

I wonder if anyone actually saw the match at the AO. She hit some nice enough shots and actually went to deue in a few games... but played someone the near best in the world. I laugh when people say she was traumatised by the event and that is the reason she's gone off the radar.

The way she plays with two hands off both sides would require a good deal of fitness and strength. Hopefully she's been building this up over the last 12 months. Surely her time at Sancez-Casal in Spain would help.

Guess who's back :D :D :D

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Olivia Lukaszewicz has resurfaced for some upcoming tournaments in Spain.
Here's how the schedule looks at the moment:

Week of 21st July, 2008
$US25 000 La Coruna ITF Women's Circuit Event (QD #23)

Week of 28th July, 2008
$US25 000 Vigo ITF Women's Circuit Event (ALT #121)

We shouldn't get our hopes up, because her last comeback was very Dokic-esque, if you could indeed call it a comeback.
Hopefully she will be able to play some more events this time around before getting injured, and then get a WTA Ranking.
Unless she is doing a Todd Reid and just playing a couple of events in Spain for the sake of it
Anyway, good luck Liv, wish you all the best :)

Olivia is in the qualifying draw for the 25k in La Coruna :)

She got a first round by and plays 10th seed, Viet-Ha Ngo (WTA-896) from Vietnam in the second round. If she won that she would probably get a shot at 6th seed Rebeca Neves (WTA-730) from Brazil.

If she is even close to the form she was in last year, she should qualify pretty comfortably.

I agree louloubelle! 6/0 6/0 to Henin and then the same score line in the Juniors. This event is often used to highlight the sorry plight of our Juniors and I feel that TA did Olivia and themselves a great disservice by thrusting her in as our golden light at 15.

I think TA was billing Olivia as the next Jelena Dokic, considering they gave them both their first GS wildcards at the age of 15.

I only ever saw her play against Henin, and I think it unfair to judge her on that match...
What do you guys think of her game? I know she was double handed off both sides and could generate a fair bit of power off both wings. Do you think she had as much potential as TA made out or was she just thrust into the limelight as our next big hope in desperation? Judging by her results, I think she could have been, if not still could be top 100/150 at some stage in the future.

In my opinion, it's quite sad to think that this girl practically had all the expectations on her shoulders to be the next big thing, the next Jelena Dokic, the next Golden Girl of Australian Tennis. My oh my how things can unravel...

Be good if she stuck with it, we need as many players as we can get on the rankings. But she will never be the player she could have been. In saying that, she was probably pretty hyped and maybe not as good as TA expected her to be.

Sad comments, but I think probably pretty true.

I was never impressed with her in the least, but to win just 6 games against a player like Grajdek, is even worse than I'd expect.
To put that loss into perspective, Grajdek won just 1 game against Krizzy last month!

Ouch - not great then :tape:
But yes she was always in the 'may-be' pile of talented juniors. Never had a sustained good spell of tennis (apart from a quallie round win over Jarka at AO) to really work out how good she was. I thought she was talented enough but was always more impressed with McDowell.

Its the same with all the juniors, Tennis Australia get excited with a tall 12yo girl who is winning easy. Of course she's tipped to be the next big thing but of course, doesn't grow much talller and all the other girls catch up and ovretake her. Why TA let her keep a double handed forehand is beyond me! That shouldve been changed when she was 12 to single hand.

It was natural enough shot her dble hander but the toll it takes on the body might be the reason for her constant injuries. Unless your Monica Seles of course - who coped pretty well..... (coped probably isn't the right word!)
